Wowwowee: Philippines Game Show Scandal

I’m a regular reader of Jayvee Ferndandez’s blog and I was really surprised to read about the rigging of the popular noontime show - Wowowee. Willie Revilame really has a knack for getting himself and his shows in trouble, and while I’m really not that angry about the so-called rigging, this incident is bound to get a lot of media attention in the coming days. By the way, the rigging is really simple. In the segment Wilyonario, the participant is supposed to get money based on certain boxes with different colors. The location of the jackpot money (2M) should be random so that there really is a chance for the contestant to win the 2,000,000 pesos. This video I’m about to show you guys shows that the host, Willie, knows where the 2M is and he can actually dictate where it comes out.

In all honesty, this could be a simple production error but we really won’t know until ABS CBN releases an official statement about this. This may have legal implications especially if this segment is recognized by the Department of Trade and Industry as an official game show promotion. More after the jump.

What bugs me though is that this is not the real issue when it comes to Wowowee. Authorities still have to resolve the damned incident with the Ultra Stampede and this already pops up. By the way, here’s a longer version of the video with some explanations:

  7. add ko lang.. about sa explanation nung 2nd vid.. sa mga di nakakarealize agad.. pwede mong hilahin yung dalawang film para di papanalunin yung contestant… di ba papakita nila na may 2m/ibang prize sa ibang wheel? paano kung dalawa yung 2m or dalawa yung 1m? talo pa rin yung contestant kahit panalo talaga siya… O.o

  9. I think that this is an issue that was easily judged to fast.

    In my opinion, maaaring lahat ng wheels that time e may Zero lahat ang laman at pinatungan lang ng slates for the prices (who knows, production decision?) nagkataon lang siguro na nandun nga ung 2M tapos nahila niya ng todo ung 2M slate kaya natanggal, revealing the zero.

    Does that sound defensive, maybe yes because i like the show. I have grown tired of Eat Bulaga harboring COMPLETE ARSES and so many CO-HOSTS *cough*CIARASOTTOFREKKINSPOILED*cough* na parang pinapasikat lang nila. geez.

  12. nagkamali lang yan. pag ginawang zero yung prize na napili kunwari ng contestant, kailangan pa din pakita nila yung ibang prize pagkatapos. pag ganun, magiging kulang ng isa yung mapapakita nila (kasi nga tinago ni willie), pag ganun mabubuking. hindi ata magkakamali ng ganun ang abs.


  13. ^ seems like both of you dont actually get what happened… basically the video shows that the host has the power to pick his winners… willy is such an a-h*ole.. what if he doesn’t want the contestant to win (eq. ay ayokong manalo to..), then he show the 0.. if he wants the contestant to win he puts the 2.. tsk tsk tsk, how many have one in this game?? and come on, how many times did willie got involved in scandals like this??? most of us knows this is not the 1st time..

    don’t you think that’s what there plan is.. kung pinapasikat lang nila ung mga co-hosts na yan edi maganda di ba?? I think helping others is a good thing, seems it’s a bad thing for you to give other opportunities to others to become famous..

  17. They obviously reuse the wheels everyday and every day the production crew randomly selects the “2M wheel” for that day and informs Willie about the location.

    Matatawag ito na “Props Malfuction” ika nga. Something that eventually may happen given the fragile nature of those cardboard/papier mache props.

    I bet this will be good fodder for the Eat Bulaga old geezers to harp on. Hay magsisiraan nanaman sila…


  18. Wowowee has a lot of sponsors now, I think. If its so fragile why do that technique? Why not think of something else? Assuming it’s not a scam. And its a “production” error. Theres still the basic assumption that the whole game can and could be rigged. Its not whether he did or did not make a mistake, its about the pattern or procedure of the game.

    What if the contestant chose the 2m? Willie could have easily “pulled it so strong” to reveal a big 0. But the way he pulled it? Wow so little force… Theres no difference between the way he pulled the 2m prize from the other prizes.

    Sa second video may explanation ng films. 3 films makes for a really manipulative outcome. DTI does not permit that. Its more of a fraud than anything else.

  21. well even if may 0 nga sa kada wheel na un, may possibility pa din na mag karoon nang pandaraya… sa dami dami ng sponsors ng wowowee d parang napakacheap naman yata ng ginagamit nila para dun… at saka d ba madami pa kaso yang wowowee at si willie? ultra stampede? spousal abuse? at ung scandal about junniper ung nakita ung fleshy part ng b**bs nya… tska d masyado maganda ung strategy na ginagawa ni willie.. minsan pinapahiya nya ung mga tao… *appeal to pity/ad misericordiam* hayz e5

    they explained how the “wheels” work.. sa mga d nakaka intindi.. ganito un..

    1. ung pinaka background ng bawat wheel ay “zero”
    2. bawat wheel ay may “cover”
    3. may apat na iba ibang “layers” for the prizes which are added randomly to a random wheel.

    sa nangyari.. pwedeng aang nahila ng host ay ung “layer” ng prize and not the “cover.” kaya ang lumabas ay ung zero. pwede ring ang nahila nya eh ung “cover” at nasama ung “layer” (nagkadikit, since they are “films” pwede yan magdikit”) either way.. it’s possible na magkaroon tlga ng “ERROR”

    on 2nd thought, they cud be using the wrong strategy for the game. kc pwede rin nila gawin na ganito..

    12 wheels, all has a “Zero” as the base film or “background” then 2 wheels can have a “2m” film, then 2 wheels can have a “1m” film, then 2 wheels can have a “0.5m” film, then 2 wheels rin for the “h&l”. then if ever ang makuha ng contestant na wheel eh may “2m” pwede nila palabasin ung “zero” by just pulling “both” the “cover” and the “prize” films (but this will be very obvious since the studio is round so there will be some na makakakita nito, but again, they are films, pwede magdikit, or pagdikitin) and since dlawa ung “2m” film, pwede nila ipakita ung isa na hindi nakuha ng contestant..

    yan ung mga possible na nangyari.. but either way.. isa lang result nyan.. we wud never know the truth.. lmao.. all we can do now is hayaan nalang.. coz whatever we do.. they are STILL helping people d b? either the game is rigged or not.. they are still giving away money.. kung production error man yan.. let it be.. kung rigged.. let it be parin.. there are people incharged naman to investigate.. wag nlng natin husgahan coz we wer not there and we really dont know what happend.. :)

    Nakita mo na nga na possible na ALL the wheels have the combinations of ALL the possible outcomes. Posible na lahat merong 1, 2, 5 and the house and lot. What would that mean? It means that whatever the contestant choose, they could still show that she did not get the 2M. Parang dun sa pinakita. The 2m and the zero was both shown. So ano ibig sabihin nun? Pag napili ng contestant yung Violet, POSIBLE na sa ibang kulay lalabas yung 2. At the same time, pwedeng ZERO ang lalabas dun sa Violet.

    Take note I have used the words POSSIBLE, POSIBLE. Because as long as there is no official word, all that we know would be mere speculations.

  30. Ang galing talaga ni Willie. Come to think about it, no matter what he does, people can’t just stop talking about him. I dunno whats with him that people always notice him. Im not into this issue, but how come people always talk about wowowee at wala silang masabi sa rival nitong Eat Bulaga just to boost its ratings? M telling you Willie has something that I should say make him a legit superstar. :) M not a fan but just a simple observation of whats happening in his case. :)

    Lol. I hope you’re being sarcastic there. Being famous or being noticed isn’t always a good thing. If people talk about you, and they talk about you a lot, but it’s all about you and your crap, sure you can be called famous, but man your honor and dignity is going down its way to hell. Being noticed for your crap isn’t my idea of being famous. And being noticed doesn’t automatically make you a superstar. lol

    It’s not just the game format that’s the problem, it’s Willie. Every TV show he goes becomes plain crap what with his foul mouth.

    Kung susuriin ay dalawang numero and laman ng lalagyan. Dito pa lang ay magkakaroon na ng duda ang mga tao. Dapat ay naging maingat sila sa pagsasaayos ng kanilang mga laro dahil pagdating sa pera ay sensitibo ang mga tao lalo na sa isang bansang mas marami ang naghihirap.

    Kung paano ito ipapaliwanag ng ABS-CBN ay hindi ko alam pero puwede nating sabihing walang kasalanan si Willy dahil host lang naman siya ng nasabing show. Mas malaki ang pananagutan dito ng management, production at staff ng nasabing show.

  57. hi…im jenny from iloilo,,well my comment bout the show wowowee,,,is that…maganda naman talaga ang show,,,nila,,,kaso lang ang nagpapaganda lang ng show e ung mga dancer na parang nasa club…without them wala ang wowowee…sana wag namang malaswa..kase parang un lang pang akit sa mga audience and tele viewers eh…wala aral don..kahit sa mga stories ng mga contestant…vulgar eh…parang di na dapat e share sa tao kasi personal..eh,,,sana it will keep it secret..and isa pa ung pang hatak sa mga magandang girls audince pangit ehhh…siguro pagwala ung mga babae sa show ninyo….wala kayo kayo rating….and walang ka chalenge2x ung mga question…di naka add ng info o karunungan sa mga bata…or viewers,,,unlike sa ibang show…eatbulaga….un maganda..
