Professional Hardcore Gamers

BLOG ROLLBACK (WTF)

Yeah, you guys read it right. My blog rolled back to yesterday (March 12, 2007) because I had my site transferred to a different server because of the frequent disconnections. The good news is I can now update regularly and there should be no more problems with the accessability of this site. I’ll re-post what I posted yesterday - the “Wanted: Professional MMORPG Gamer” article.

Wanted: Professional MMORPG Gamer

ff

Anyway, on to the article! Today, I’ll be discussing something that is an opportunity for gamers all around the Philippines. As most of you know, there is a BPO boom here in the country. Call Centers are mushrooming everywhere. This opens up a lot of jobs that have relatively good compensation. But who would ever think that you can actually make a decent living by literally playing games for 8 hours a day?

Enter the new BPO - Gaming Representatives. It’s basically “piloting”. You pilot american’s account and power level him at your office. You get paid hourly and you even get bonuses if you exceed the agreement with the customer. The set-up of the office is similar to a call-center except that all the PCs are insanely powerful and everyone is playing WoW, RF, Anarchy Online, and any other MMORPG. If you check the Google Ad image above, companies are actually spending money to get people to power level.

If you check jobstreet, you’ll find companies hiring gaming representatives and other managerial positions like Operations and Project Managers. So if you are pretty much doing nothing and you’re a bum, you might as well make money out of gaming. Since this is a BPO industry, I’m assuming you’ll get paid 14-15k plus night differential and other nice bonuses.

Let me warn you though, I have no idea what the career ladder will look like. But still… you can probably get promoted to Team Leader and maybe even Operations Manager and earn around 30k monthly. The only problem is the intense brain drain that you will suffer after (LOL).

Anyway, that’s it for today. When I get back on Wednesday I’ll post two Celebrity Player Interviews - SoopahSpoonBaby and Polgara of Armada. ;)

Btw, if you wanna start your own blog, please check my previous post. It has a lot of tips that you can use. Other bloggers are also posting very useful stuff there that you can also incorporate into your own blogs (Thanks Kiven & Chris).

  1. I think it’s interesting that people can get paid to play the games. I’ve heard about it before and was always wondering if they still enjoyed the game outside of the job. I have always wanted to get involved in the gaming industry, but moreso in development and customer service. However, there are many people who would love to simply play the game for money–and I think it’s awesome that there is a niche for them ^_^.

  2. The good thing is there is a ladder that they can climb. There are opportunities for growth similar to that of a call center - Team Leader, Quality Assurance, and even Operations Manager.

  3. wauks, ask ko lng pano mag apply po dun sa power leveling?

  4. Hi ROadik (whatta name XD)

Just go to jobstreet.com, make an online resume, and search gamepal dun sa jobstreet. Send the resume and I’m sure within a day they’ll call you.

  5. while working as a tech support rep, a colleague of mine invited me to try out applying as a “harvester” for WoW. Then it was around 15k for a 12 hr shift! drawback is you don’t get to enjoy playing since your main purpose is just gathering loots/rares etc. parang human openkore hehe

  6. Due to popular demand - I’ll make post within the week on how to do jobstreet.com >.>

Btw, if you’re wondering why your comments were deleted (those posted on march 12), nag rollback blog ko. Rawr.

  10. Hi guys,

I’m pretty sure that you will get training. You already have the technical skills since you’re a gamer, the only thing lacking is the discipline needed for the 8-hour job.

Btw, a friend of mine applied to GamePal (Project Manager), they offered him 30,000 PHP monthly.

  11. college graduate ba dapat to be a human bot?

  12. Based on the requirements you just need to be a HS graduate. The career path is really tailored for addicted gamers. >.>
