TYR-URDR Merge Confirmed

Last week, the Ragnarok Team had a community meeting to discuss the upcoming Ragnarok Philippine Championships. After the meeting, the Community Managers had a short discussion with the guild leaders of Tyr and Urdr to discuss the possibility of a server merge. This information was leaked to the forums and a lot of people have been talking about this for several days already. I decided not to comment on this since I knew it was a very sensitive topic and there was no official announcement released by the team. However, as of 2PM today, the announcement confirming the merger has been posted on the Ragnarok Website.

Here’s the official announcement:

As the Tournament of Legends loom over the horizon, the gods have gathered to prepare for the upcoming battles. As the gods travel through dimensions and watch over the worlds of man in hopes of finding a potential champion, Tyr and Urdr have decided to form an alliance so they may dominate the Tournament of Legends.

After they have completed their talks, they came before Odin to present their plan and ask for his blessing. Odin agreed to this, after much thought and announced his decision to the other gods.

Along with this news to the other gods, he also declared that this alliance will only be allowed if the two dimensions are merged together. Tyr and Urdr agreed and invited all the other gods to the merging ceremony. The only thing was that the merging ceremony would open a temporal rift on all the different dimensions, causing time and space to literally stop. Only after the merge has been completed will time and space return to normal once again.

To all Citizens of Midgard,

Please be informed that Tyr and Urdr’s merging ceremony will be held on the 16th of April from 12midnight to 12noon. During this time, all servers will be inaccessible and no one will be able to create a new account or character until the merge is done.

Once the merge has been completed, Tyr and Urdr have magically influenced the Armory of the Gods merchants to have a massive sale. They will also bless all monsters so that they will give twice as much exp than normal.

Note that the mechanics for the merge are very similar to the previous one that we had last year. Here’s a link to the actual mechanics. You’ll need a PDF reader to browse through it.

Personally, I’d like to apologize to the URDR community. Gravity really wasn’t able to give ample support for the PK Feature which caused the server to be unstable for the past few years. I hope that you will bring your fiery spirit to the world of Tyr and continue to be a force to be reckoned with in PVP, especially since RPC 2008 is just around the corner.

  6. And i thought that the commercial servers would merge first then this happens. Well, it’s inevitable anyways.

    OT: And here we go again with the polished “reasoning” release, how come this kind of thing can’t be applied to the Free Servers’ ROK Point Driven Merchants? Really, it feels so disheartening to click on them only to be greeted with a cold-heart-ish and bland “What would you like to buy?”. Not even a flavorful and helpful greeting window. Something like:

    You’ve already tampered the game enough, why can’t something like that be done? Besides the Ragnarok site isn’t even updated anymore… that would totally help those who’re still newbies on the hypermart.

Maraming na disappoint d2 sa merge na to… kaya kme nasa TYR server (formerly Odin & Fenrir) ayaw namin ng PK… obviously TYR Server ang dominant server… so bakit URDR ang nasunod… waw ibang klase talaga toh… sampal sa muka ng lahat ng dating taga ODIN at tga FENRIR server yan…. tsk tsk tsk… imagine 2 non-pk server + 1 URDR server… tas rule ng URDR ang nasunod… sir wauks sana magkaron ng CHAR TRANSFER… lilipat na lang ako… para sulit naman yung load na binabayaran ko…

    PK nanaman /swt Merge nyo na lang lahat ng server tapos pk pati cities…

    Napaka dumb idea naman pinili mo non PK server tapos magiging PK, maglagay kayo ng server transfer if ganyan ang implement nyo

    The topic here is server setting, if we or I wanted a PK server I could have picked URDR rather than TYR, its not about the botting /swt. Speaking of botting, FYI the PK areas are MVP maps, theres nothing to harvest in most of this maps and if your goal is to level there are plenty of maps aside from MVP respawn maps that offers good even much higher exp for your BOT’s.

  36. Great move to merge the two dying servers. . .maybe we can call it the new “Tyranny Order” wahehe

    Although, I wished you can offer a name change option for everyone(even for a fee). Some of us would like to avail of it.

    And since it will definitely be used/exploited in the merge might as well let everyone have access to the option. Fair and equitable opportunities for all gamers.

    Because if you think about the negative repercussions of having a name change option, it is very minimal and better yet it is highly manageable.

    Therefore, the benefit far outweighs the risks. Lalo na if you put a price tag of P500 then it will be even mroe beneficial for the levelupgames.

    Anyways il raise narin the concerns about the rewards system wauks, any news out of it? from your post before we saw a glimpse of hope. as loyal gamer of levelupgames for 4 years maybe its good to give intangible stuff din. hehe

    Holy sh!t! What a choice of words.

    This was discussed in Ragnaboards after a meeting with GMs and players. A lot of people have been protesting this merge especially from Tyr server notably (1) the PK-feature and (2) the reset of rankings since Tyr server is just 10 months old yet they’re way ahead in scores compared to URDR.

    Just saying the truth. This is not a comment.

    Mr. Wauks, sorry but i just notice that you’re a bit bias with this entry,,
    it was stated in the Tyr-Urdr Merge Mechanics that there are PK maps (most of which are MVP boss maps),,
    if the people from Tyr really wanted to play in a server with PK features, they should have started making characters in Urdr rather than waiting for this kind of merge,,
    Tyr was said to be the dominating server in this merge, but then why is it that Urdr’s PK feature still prevailed though it was only available in selected maps,,

    Yes, a game should always strive to get more players because all that above is true. But when you need to make a merge of servers to attain that, something is very wrong. That is very clear by this other comment bellow:

    When there are no more servers to merge, what could be done? Merge with Perfect World?

    I’ve been to another meeting with Level Up! staff on the end of 2007. Some very brief history of bRO in 2007. Rok Points were launched around March on the 3 servers it had. Mid-2007 there was a merge of the 3 servers into 1. On the end of the year Level Up! confirmed to us that in no way or time the new merged server had more players than the 3 separated players had in the beginning of 2007.

    Well, on the end of the year they’ve launched a new free to play server and that server is going well, while the other one is at least stable enough. It seems that Level Up! (br) learned that it should do what people want, not what they want. I say that because:

    1) The old servers that were merged did not want rok points in any way. There was a clear “if Level Up! wants that, make a new server with that stuff, we’re fine the way we are now”. Well, Level Up! didn’t care to listen, launched the items and got people quitting over and over. Every new launch there was new complaints. Level Up! learned something from that, never launching the most polemic items such as enriched stones or experience / drop altering items.

    2) Mid-2007 merge happened. Sincerely, I think it was much more carefully planned than pRO merges with way less bad results (like name stuff). People expected (as was advertised by Level Up!) GMs online as there would be just a single server. As you may guess, even that didn’t happen. Number of players just kept rolling down.

    3) In the end of 2007 Level Up! surprised most of the community when it announced a new free server. Although I was not surprised and was even expecting that to happen, one thing that they made clear surprised me. With the new free server, rok point stuff would be launched there and there would be no more things launched on the subscription server, maybe some not powerful hat for collectors or some item the community asked. The clear division people asked when rok points were launched was finally happening, at least in a way, and good results from it were happening.

    I said all that because Level Up! should always look and take care about *why* a merge had to happen in the first place. I will not tire to say that merge is NOT a solution, just a painkiller. It’s really ok for an emergency situation, but it’s not something that the company should take lightly. You may screw up way more things than you can guess.

    In my opinion, the “dominant server” to be altered in such a way of getting that many PK maps is simply wrong. As a suggestion, the bRO free server has 2 maps (I think) altered with pvp enabled. One of them is right of Einbech and has even MVPs there - a nice addiction considering no teleport. So, you could turn some useless map no one goes to into a pvp map along with some nice feature for people to adventure there. And it would not bother the leveling spots Tyr people go. Maybe, I don’t know what .ph people like. But Wauks, be sure to talk to your community about those pvp issues. Account split, name change, rank reset… there is already plenty of bad stuff for players to deal with.

  48. sir wauks talga po bang ganun ung pk sa mvp maps na nilagay sa tyr server, kapag na ded ung character ng 2 beses ay auto respawn na po sa savepoint??? d naman po ganyan ung sa urdr na pk eh..bug po ba yan?? panu naman makikill ang mga boss gaya ni ifrit at rangris kung kada 2 ded ay balik balik sa savepoint lalo na po ung mga malalayong map at nid iquest like thanathos??
