I was able to play Street Fighter 4 courtesy of my office mate, Chris. We spent a few hours with his XBOX 360 and OMG I had a blast playing it. I’ve been a huge fan of the SF franchise since I was a kid and I can still remember the countless hours spent in the arcade at SM North Edsa and Robinson’s Galleria as I tried to master the moves of Ryu and Ken. After the arcade phase, my brother and I got hooked on the SNES and Street Fighter was actually the main reason why we nagged our father back then to buy the console, hahaha! Anyway, I made a quick review of Street Fighter 4 based on my first few days playing it. Check out the review after the jump.
A Classic Revisited!
Playing Street Fighter 4 feels like you’re playing Street Fighter 2 but with insanely upgraded game mechanics, graphics, and features. Some of the background stages for the characters are actually very similar to the ones I saw in Street Fighter 2. Hell, even some of the moves of the old characters are the same. Even Blanka still has his weird “double scooping upwards” claw attack! And yes, Zangief is still overpowered. That guy is so imba. That spinning piledriver is just soooooooooooooo annoying. Oh! Dhan still sucks. Lol.
Another really good thing that they brought back is the mystery and simply awesome story of Akuma and Gouken. This plot twist has definitely gotten most of the SF fans “nerdgasm” since it was believed that Gouken was already dead. Seeing him in-game and kicking ass is just surreal.
WTFOMGBBQ WHO’S SETH?!
If I have one major complaint about this game is WHO IN THE NINE HELLS IS SETH? I mean, he’s not epic at all. As the last boss for the most anticipated fighting game sequel, you’d think CAPCOM would come up with something more impressive that a generic robotic voldo looking creature as the final boss. Here’s a picture of him.

Doesn’t he look gay? He’s not uber at all. That Yin and Yang crap in his belly is just ridiculous. Whoever thought of Seth’s character should get fired.
Over-all it rocks!
Seth aside, I’m really digging Street Fighter 4. I can’t wait to get my own copy and I’ll probably lock myself in my room for days trying to master the new characters. I’d love to finish all of them to see their endings, haha! HADOKEN! Rawr!

Looks still the same with the family computer but a little more detailed in the characters. It also improved a bit when it comes to graphics. From being mainly a drawing to 3D. nice!!

It seems that you only played SF II and nothing else from the series then. Seth must be bland looking indeed but he is the link the fans have found of Capcom to SF 3 third strike being pretty much a precursor to Urien and Gill.

gawd i’ll miss the parries :heh:
afaik seth uses multiple move sets from all the characters. i wouldn’t worry bout the “boss” sucking as akuma and gouken are the real bosses.
