It’s official – Steve Jobs just unveiled their newest product: the iPad. It’s literally one of the sexiest gadgets I’ve ever seen in my life. I have a bunch of questions about the product though. It looks kinda expensive and I don’t know if it’s worth the the money. Ultimately it’s really just a really sleek laptop and browser.

    ipad is real

    im in love ipad

“It’s 0.5-inches thin, weighs just 1.5 pounds. Thinner and lighter than any netbook. 9.7-inch IPS display.” – Steve Jobs

Man, can’t wait to find out when this will be sold in the Philippines and how much it will be sold for.

UPDATE: iPad will be sold for $499. Roughly 24,000 pesos. Whoa. Expect it in the Philippines by June.

      it’s not even a laptop…

      just a bigger iPhone/iPod Touch…

they should have used a Mac OS platform :(

      My initial impressions:
      1) I hate the name (sounds like a feminine pad)
      2) No multitasking
      3) No Flash support
      4) No camera

I might check it out when it comes to the Apple store in 90 days simply because I am on the market for a pdf reader for scientific journals. One thing is for sure, its a better ebook reader than the Kindle.

Ok no wonder the name iPad sounds familiar… it was parodied by MadTV years ago.

yes… it’s just a big ipod touch… i’ll just wait for version 2… it’s the same thing they did to the ipod touch… the first gen didn’t have built in speakers then they added it over to the 2nd gen ones…

That’s like a blown up iPod Touch.

      This “iPad”, lol, should have:

      - Multi-tasking. With something THAT big, almost like a laptop, this should be a no-brainer.
      - Full-web browsing should also be implemented. For Gods’ sake, this doesn’t even have tabbed browsing, let alone Flash support.
      - HDMI or Display Output. Heck, even NVIDIA Tegra devices the size of a phone can output video with 1080p HD quality.
      - Expandable memory.. An issue plaguing apple since they launched the iPod Touch/iPhone.
      - Front facing web-camera. Steve Jobs says this “iPad” *snicker* is better than most netbooks.. Really? There are myriad of netbooks with built-in web cameras you know.

Can anyone add more to this list? I was thinking of a name that they would use for this product a few days ago. I thought of one word.. “iPad”. I dismissed this thought of mine because it would sound so.. cheap? Let alone a pun for feminine pads.. I wouldn’t want to buy this device when it comes out. Pero as most of you know how good Apple is with their marketing department, they’d probably get a lot of buyers for this product. I wouldn’t call them “smart” that’s for sure.

      No Contract: Great
Battery life: Great (if it lives up to its 10-hr claim)
Price: Good (sort of…considering its from Apple)
      Microphone: Good
Aspect Ratio: Bad (Yick… I hate watching movies with enormous black bars at the top and bottom of the screen)
1024 x 768pixels Resolution: Bad (no way that you can display today’s high-definition of 1080p)
      No Camera: Bad
      No Multitasking: Bad
Curved back: Bad (I wanted it to lay flat on a table)
      Wide Bezels: Bad
No Flash support: Bad (there goes all my internet streaming)
No memory slot: Bad (the dealbreaker for me… it just means I can’t read my scientific journal articles, the reason I’m on the market for a device of this kind)

why watch 1080p if your screen is small.. O.o
the curved back’s purpose is for you to pick the product up from a flat surface..
the wide bezel is where you are suppose to hold it. think about it. if it has a narrow bezel your palm will activate touch sensors on the side of the tablet.
i do agree it should have at least a front facing camera. but i guess they’re gonna put that on the succeeding generations.
i agree to that it should have a built-in sd card reader but they opt to sell you an accessory for that.. O.o and they can make some money for that..

indeed this is just a giant ipod touch. and its purpose is for you to check you mail. do document editing. read ebooks. better.

i see this as a multi-touch digital picture frame. lol
and it has that slide show function with background music too..

Ooops… let me clarify my previous statement. There is no 1080p “play back” for the iPad as yet. That means I can’t watch my existing (and growing) library of 1080p HD videos without some sort of conversion first.

This is obviously a niche device (and a nifty little new toy for the apple fanboys)… however, since I already have an iPhone, a netbook and a desktop, I don’t see myself purchasing one of these.

      Side-note:
I more intrigued with the iPad’s native system-on-a-chip (A4) than the rest of its specs
