StarCraft 2 Protoss Multiplayer Strategies against Terran Rush

I’ve been playing StarCraft 2 versus computer AI on Very Hard Mode for the past few days to figure out StarCraft 2 Protoss multiplayer strategies. Playing the AI at any level lower than that is too easy. You can literally just rush the AI’s base with 5-6 zealots early on and that will guarantee you a win. At Very Hard, it’s a totally different ball game. As most of you will find out when you start playing against AI and multiplayer, the Protoss is very prone to rushes, especially when you’re up against Terrans and they hit you hard with Marines and Marauders early in the game. There are several ways you can deal with this. Details after the break.

Sentry Force Field Tactic
One of the more popular ways of dealing with the Terran M&M (Marine and Marauder) rush is to use the Force Field ability of the Sentry to half the army of the opponent by strategically placing it on the base of the ramp to the entrance to your base. After cutting the army in half use your forces to destroy the stragglers who make it to your base. You repeat this process until you’re able to tech up and build Colossus and Immortals which you’ll use to finish the game.

The problem with this is that there are so many ways for the plan to fail. While it works well if done properly, a lot of people just find it absurd and complicated to come up with such a high-end tech solution to a bunch of low tier units from the Terran. I feel for you Protoss players, haha.

Zealot Charge and Void Rays
My personal favorite on how to deal with this is to match fire with fire. Ramp up zealot production by quickly building 2 Gateways. Supplement defense with 2 Photo Canons and 2-3 Stalkers. Build 2-3 sentries for Guardian Shield. Then tech up as fast as your can to Warp Gate so you can build 4-5 Void Rays. Use your army to defend against the rush. Make sure you activate Guardian Shield from the Sentries. Also, don’t forget to research Charge for the Zealots because this will help them reach and surround the Marines and Marauders. If you’re playing against real people the Charge ability will also counter kiting which is such a huge pain in the ass for Zealots.

Once you’ve defended against the initial attack, wait till you get the Void Rays and now it’s your turn to attack. During the battle just make sure your zealots act as meat shields which you focus fire on the Marines first so that your Void Rays are kept safe. After that it’s easy pickings.

Keep your sanity. Make Void Rays. Just pray the Terran doesn’t build an army of Vikings or else you’re toast, haha!
