Starcraft 2 PC Specs
One of the most anticipated games in the internet cafes right now is Blizzard’s sequel to the award-winning Real Time Strategy game, Starcraft. It’s actually the game that hooked me into LAN Gaming, even more than Counterstrike. I’m a fan of games like this and I can’t count how many hours I’ve poured into Starcraft with my high school buddies. Anyway, there’s no official release date yet for Starcraft 2 but there are a lot of rumors going around the internet that it’s scheduled for either late this year or early 2009. The question now is - CAN YOUR PC HANDLE THE SC2 REQUIREMENTS? Based on the videos released by Blizzard, SC2 looks like it will be demanding on hardware.
Check out the PC minimum and recommended requirements for Starcraft 2 after the jump.
Minumum Requirements
GFX: GeForce 7/8 Series or Radeon 1000/2000 with 256 MB RAM
CPU: Pentium 4
RAM: 1 GB
Internet: ADSL 1 MbitRecommended Requirements
GFX: GeForce 8000 or Radeon 2000 series with 512 MB RAM
CPU: Core 2 Duo or Athlon X2.
RAM: 2 GB
Internet: ADSL 3 Mbit
Source: Kotaku
Like what the author said in the source material, please be advised that this isn’t 100% official. I’m sure Blizzard is still trying to work on the engine to lower the specs so that more players will get to enjoy the game. However, it looks like more advanced games will really push cafes and gamers to upgrade hardware, especially RAM. Majority of the cafes here in the Philippines are still using 512mb RAM for their PCs.
I’m pretty sure you’ve already seen this but just in case you haven’t, here’s a link to the official trailer for Starcraft 2.

Dont’ fret about the internet requirement.. I don’t think that would matter because it will surely be played via LAN.. at least for the first few months of its release.

The connection req’s ridiculous…
The thing that I see here however is that this baby needs cards with Shader Model 3…
Most shops have that already and upgrading is not really that ouchie because you can buy a ait radeon 1650pro for like 1.9K…
The only problem is if this game will demand DX10 on full graphics mode (Crysis anyone?) coz that will really force me to buy Vista Premium this christmas… (bye bye SP3~ T^T;)

i think any gamer’s desktop can handle this game. but the internet requirements can be a big pain in the ass. 1 mbps?!!! how much is this kind of connection now?
too bad for me i cant remember playing in any comp shops with c2d or athlon x2 cpu’s.

This is significantly outdated news. These stats were confirmed to be fake by Stefanie Gwinner (Xordiah) of Blizzard.
On the other hand, we recently uncovered stats for graphics, written by Blizzard themselves!

i think it will be more on the video card rather than memory. ang technique nga ng isang shop dito samin eh binebenta nila ng mura ung hardwares nila na dapat nang i-upgrade kaya hindi sila masyado nahihirapan mag ups.

wth?!? 3mbps recommended net speed? that’s gotta be the toughest spec to meet. looks like we’ll be stuck with single player campaigns and lan games for now.

errrr…i think the recommended connection is extremely Insane waaaaaaah (thats a capital i n s a n e by the way). i have a question..will a mobility radeon graphics X2300 work with starcraft2 given the specs? help anyone? :0
oh yeah, i just checked on the net…the probable specs did not come directly from blizzard itself and its not even the official, probable specs. sourcefile is from here : http://pc.ign.com/articles/876/876096p1.html

well you can get a 1-2 mbps connection from globe. 1k - 2k/month. But I SERIOUSLY DO NOT recommend that you get one.
I got a 2mbps connection from Globe last year hoping it would help me in videos, game clients, music downloads, etc. On the first month my daily average speed was 1.5-2mpbs. I was happy with it. For just one month.
The succeeding months were a disaster though. I was suddenly getting 150-300 kbps net connection daily! With a maximum of 600 kbps (which is maybe once a week)! Imagine that! We contacted Globe immediately about this and they just kept promising to fix it. 2 months later, we still had the same 120-300 kbps speed with our 2mpbs account.
Oh guess what, our bills arrived on time and they charged us 2k for each month even if we never got the speed or even just half the speed that we’re paying for. We left Globe after 3 months without receiving solution to our problem.
sorry sir wauks for the off topic. hehe. Just giving a heads up to the readers.
