StarCraft 2 Initial Impressions

Finally got my copy of StarCraft 2 and got a few hours of gaming this evening. Over-all I’m having a blast with it. It’s pretty obvious that Blizzard really thought this game out to make sure that the experience would be something that both hardcore and casual gamers would enjoy. One of the things I appreciated the most was that Blizzard made the game playable on even low-specced computers. Imagine I can actually play the game quite smoothly on my Macbook Air! That’s just amazing. This is the first game that I can enjoy on this machine, haha! That’s saying a lot! A few more notes after the break.

- The OST is phenomenal. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy an OST if it were to be sold locally.
- It felt surreal ordering SCV’s to mine again. Most effective I think is still 1 SCV = 1 Mine. 3 SCV per Vespene Gas Refinery. Please correct me if I’m wrong.
- The patch was annoying. You can’t play the game without patching first. Argh. Slow download.
- Loving skirmishes more than the campaign. Raynor is boring, haha!
- I love love love love the Real ID chat feature. Being able to chat to any of my friends anytime is awesome.
- The “Find my friends on Facebook” is also VERY helpful. Kudos to Blizz for integrating social media to their game!
- Playing Terran first. The Thor unit is a killer. Reminds me of Devastator.
