SMART BRO Plug It! for Online Gaming?

SMART Communications launched the SMART BRO PLUG IT service at the 20th Philippine Ad Congress at Subic. It’s basically a modem which you connect to your PC visa USB. The connection actually goes through the SMART Mobile Network. According to Charm Banico, a SMART Engineer, there’s a SIM Card embedded in the modem (whoa, lol). This puts a cloud of doubt though if this product can actually deliver in terms of online gaming. As most of you know, online gaming requires a very good connection and I’m not sure if the SMART BRO PLUG IT is a good option. Anyway, INQ.NET posted a video of Charm Banico demonstrating how to connect the modem. She also answers some questions which you might find interesting. Watch the video after the jump.

Description:MAKATI CITY, Philippines–Charm Banico, a Smart engineer, demonstrates how easy it is to install Smart’s new mobile broadband Internet service for consumers, dubbed Smart Bro Plug It. As the name implies, it is a “plug and play” solution that enables users to connect to a high-speed data packet access mobile network. There’s a one time fee of PHP 1,999 for the modem. Like what I said in my previous post, if anyone tries this out, please let me know if it’s any good.

  1. Bakit hindi autoplay yung installer and will it work in provincial areas???

  2. OT po kuya Wauks. Does your website’s contact form work? May suggestion po kasi ako na anti bot. In game po sya, at server side kaya di ma rereverse engineer ng OpenKore developers. But it will take a certain amount of work on Gravity’s part. Hopefully this will permanently get rid of bots. Or maybe for a few months at the very least. I read OK’s site and they’re losing developers. hihihi

  6. ung smart bro nga n sila na ngkabit ngkkprob na sa connection yan p kyang plug it urself…. sana man lang inaus muna nila ung meron na sila d ba?

  7. Note that it’s 3G and not the WiFi that Smart Bro uses

  8. smartbro’s new product is good if you’re the type of person who is always on the go bringing your laptop anywhere. but with desktop computers? i think it’s not recommended, specially for the gamers who are in need of fast connection to the internet.

just an experience, if you’re going to use a modem that is connected on a usb drive, yes you can have an internet connection everywhere but don’t expect a fast connection.

even though it’s a 3G, connecting your modem to the internet with a usb drive is a big no-no for gamers like you. but if you just want to surf the internet or send/receive email or chat.. that product is for you. cheaper and easy to install.

  9. wauks pa OT, follow up for activation of GTB thnx

  10. @wauks: Suggestion
Since Valhalla is looming around the corner, pwede mag compile ka ng mga FAQ bago mag wednesday.
Question: Ano palang mangyayari sa top 10 alchemist/BS/TK at God Item Seals pagkatapos ng valhalla?

  12. Phabol Po..im referring to valkyrie server apparently..hehe

  13. @Wauks

I work for a Accenture as a Software Engineer. For my project, we do application management. Each develop is given a broadband connection and some of us are also given SMART WeRoam and GLOBE Visibility so we could connect anywhere.

This SMART BRO plug it is simply the updated version of WeRoam. Actually the usb modem that they usually use is the Huawei usb modem.

Connection is good for both SMART and GLOBE but it still depends on the signal strength or how close you actually are to a cell site.

For gaming though, its not really advisable. The signal is delayed from time to time like 1 second or two. I actually tried playing ragna through my personal laptop with it and its pretty decent though lag is quite noticeable.

Good luck sa WOE pag yan ang gamit mo. /heh

  14. Sir wauks..reply po..pakisabi naman po sa LU team..patunayan nila na sila ang best when it comes to all aspects of gaming especially on connection…pakisabi rn pow na useless po ang 1 week 2x exp s valkyrie kc hindi makalog in or na didisconnect sa portal..thank u..

  15. @Chardy: Thanks for the info. It looks like this will be more for bloggers and people on the go than for online gamers like us. @ewan: Yup, I’ll do something like that on Monday afternoon/evening. @Valkyrie Lag/DC Problems: Escalated already to IT Team to investigate.

  16. @Chester: Because I just came from the Ad Congress. heh I’ll blog more about RO and PW come Monday.

  17. 30 minutes na qng nagtatry mag log in..ayaw p rn pow makaconnects a valk..

  18. me maintenance po b?bigla me na dc

  19. no unlimited plan.
and would only be burstible to 384kbps if you have a 3g signal, else you’l be roaming using gprs

  20. In my opinion this connection will be bad (read: horrendous) for gaming. I’ve already tried Globe’s visibility (wifi with basically the same specs as this Smart connection) and it was bad enough at browsing, WORSE at gaming.

So no, this connection won’t be good.

  22. @Chardy - yup the modem is made in China, but it’s not made by Huawei :)

  23. IMO if you have a 3G phone with datacable it will be a decent substitute especially using SMART P10 per 30min rate compared to Globe that charges by the amount of data sent.

Tried connecting using a 6680 nokia phone but haven’t tried playing RO with it.

  24. Ey. Just tried it for gaming. Lousy, even if I’m in Makati. Frequent disconnections and lag. Better stick to DSL/Cable.

  25. This product from Smart is positioned to use the new HSPA network that offers faster download and upload than any you would have experienced before from 3G or even 3.5G. They are suggesting 2Mbps but actually you could see even faster. Not sure about provincial access since it is dependent on the roll-out of the new Smart network. Try it out!
