SMART BRO Plug It! 3G Internet Service
SMART Communications launched a new product that will directly compete with Globe’s wireless service. Yuga has actually blogged about this already. Anyway, the product is called SMART BRO Plug It. It’s a nifty gadget that you just attach to your laptop via a USB cable and then you get internet! I’ve been actually considering getting something like this since I’m always on the go and it would be cool to have internet access especially so I can monitor the blog more. I’m just worried though since I used to have a SMART BRO connection at home which zonked out every other day. Obviously, I terminated the contract after the lock-in period.

Product description and price after the jump.

I am really curious about how this could match against Smart BRO!
November 25th, 2007 at 12:17 am
nothing can match how crappy smart bro is xD
well maybe this pero atm wala pa ata.. hehe

hmm sounds interesting to have, but i just have 1 question, since it’s Smart 3G internet, is it like the 3G internet i have on the phone and lets you connect it to your PC and for an internet connection and the rate is also 10php per 30 mins. If yes, then this is a bad one for gamers to have, since its not capable to connect to games like Ragnarok, i confirmed this with their technical. It’s only good for web browsing but not online games. Just some info :)

wauks i don’t know if you’ll believe my story or not… but yeah i also tried using smart bro before (since im still using dial up). yabang nila sa commercial ska print ads na pnapahayag nilang YOU CAN HAVE INTERNET CONNECTION ANYWHERE IN THE COUNTRY… yeah right.
e bakit nung nagapply ako tpos dumating ung crew nila d2 sa bahay namin WALA MAN LANG AKONG SIGNAL NA MAKUHA?? as in maski anu-anong positions na ng dish ang gnawa namin d2 sa window ng kwarto ko pero WALA NI ISANG SIGNAL na naramdaman pc ko. ang rason nila… wala daw ako sa LINE OF SIGHT!!!
wahahahahaha anong klaseng wireless brodband yan? bka nga mas maganda pa service ng globe eh. ung sa globe naman haven’t tried kasi like most dsl services, may kontrata for 1 year e sa observations ko regarding the imperfections of DSL services sa pinas (im talking about almost all of them along with my bad experiences with some of them), i think it’s not yet time to agree to certain contracts as long as they CANNOT PROVE WHAT THEY SAY IN ADS!!!
November 25th, 2007 at 6:41 am
line of sight p clang nalalaman, e kung anywhere in the country… walang line of sight pa yan…. pasok agad sa net…

I have tried both Smart & Globe Broadband. IMO, Globe Broadband is better. Smart Bro was my first ISP. Pag tumawag ka sa technical support they’ll just ask you to do useless solutions. So after my lock-in period with Smart Bro, I shifted to Globe Broadband. I rarely get disconnected. Like once a month? I’m a Plan P995 768Kbps subscriber, okay naman. Average download speed ko is 90KBps.
November 25th, 2007 at 12:06 pm
hahaha…wanna try destiny????
but most of the time naman is OK sya…
November 25th, 2007 at 8:11 pm
they say ung unli would be with a canopy antenna and not the “plug-it” modem. it’s basically a cellphone with built in data cable stripped of all the feautures except modem connectivity… hehe
November 25th, 2007 at 9:59 pm
384Kbps converts to around 48KBytes per second…
dial-up speed…
pwede na . but on second thought.. it states it’s UP TO meaning it’s usually lower and maxes at 384Kbps… … nothing more… pwede na nga.. for checking mail and surfing friendster.. but may be lagging watching you tube or WOEING… ^^,

November 26th, 2007 at 6:49 am
obligado lang ang PLDT na ibigay sa inyo up to 80% ng advertised speed. sinabi na yan sakin ng 172 since meron akong mydsl. it should apply to smart broken din kasi pldt company sila.
November 27th, 2007 at 8:15 pm
Actually the Smart Bro “Plug-It” is a HSDPA USB Modem using the Smart’s 3G/HSDPA network (it uses a 3G SIM). The only thing it has in common with Smart Bro is the branding.
Check out my speedtest conducted in Makati:

Really?
I’ve been using SmartBRO at home lately and I have no problems naman. I can’t download as much nga lang, but I have no problems with my online game connections. I even play Guitar Hero III online on my Wii and I rarely get disconnected (twice lang out of I dunno, 50?). /hmm

Naku!

Ngwek, just checked their website and from 60 hours free it’s down to 40 hours so para ka nading nagbayad ng 10 per 30 minutes if you’re using your ordinary sim card. Lumalabas, nagbabayad ka lang ng 799 a month for the USB modem. Piso lang natipid mo? Anu ba yan. Smart and Globe both suck! I hate their services, kaya walang pinapatunguhan yung mobile broadband dito sa Pinas. Sana gayahin nila sa US at magoffer nalang sila ng unlimited data plan like AT&T for their iPhone users.

I’m an ADEEK gamer and want to change our plan 999 to a plug it internet. Since I usually travel from our house to another city at least once a week. But after reading your statements I’m kinda afraid with the whole thing (not able to connect to my games!WTF!). But I do have some problems in connecting to games like FLYFF, and I am already used to the disconnections. But as soon as contract’s over I’ll change to globe!!

I’ve decided to do a blog entry entitled: Smart Bro Plug it: What you need to know, for those thinking of purchasing one.
December 27th, 2007 at 9:29 pm
Nakakainis nga yang plug it Smart USB na yan.
As other commenters said, it’s so unwise to subscribe to this gimik… most of the people here in Philippines have their 3g phones, I’d rather use my phone as a modem, at least controlled ung gamit ko ng access kung P10.00 / 30 minutes lang din naman ang charging. Kpag ngsubscribe ka d2, para kang “ewan”.
799/mo
about 2 hours lang ang surfing mo everyday
P10.00 pesos/ 30 minutes as if naman 30 minutes lang excess time na gagamitin mo a day…
let’s say 30 minutes lng excess time mo a day. That’s 300/mo.

PUTANG SMRT BRO TO!!!!
January 18th, 2008 at 9:51 am
smart pde ba kmi mag switch to DSL??withou paying the contract kc di ba joined nmn ung company nio with the PLDT???
January 23rd, 2008 at 10:52 pm
PUTANG INA INANG SMART BRO YAN DI AKO MAKAPG LARO NG MAAYOS.. TANG INA.. LAGI AKO NAMAMATAY DAHIL AYAW GUMALAW NG CHARS. KO.. TANG INA TALAGA OHHH!!!! TANG INA NYO SMART BRO.. MANLOLOKO KAYO!!!!

The quality of the connection depends where you are. Obviously, if you’re in a place where there is no 3G/HSDPA, expect that you’ll have intermittent connection.
I recently purchased a SmartBRO kit (Dark Knight “limited” edition - http://smart.com.ph/smartbro) and the connection was pretty decent - in Makati.
I’ll be testing it in other areas and I’ll let you know.
