It looks like the trend for online gaming is moving towards capitalizing on premium branded titles as opposed to the conventional generic MMORPG. News of Dragonball Online really spread like wildfire and now we have another popular Japanese anime title being turned into an online game. It’s not really a fighting game though… it’s actually SLAM DUNK ONLINE. Yeah, Hanamichi is back with a vengeance!
Here’s the source article from MMOSITE:
On Oct. 22, Korea-based Goorm announced that they’re cooperating with another Korean Company – DaewonMedia on the development of Slam Dunk Online, under the supervision of the cartoonist Inoue Takehiko, author of its original work. Slam Dunk Online is slated for closed beta in Jan., 2010 and open beta in the first half of 2010.
Set in the background of its original comic book – Slam Dunk and focusing on rendering the original style, Slam Dunk Online will introduce all the characters debuting in Slam Dunk. As an online game, Slam Dunk Online is expected to provide players both offline and online gaming fun.
According to the cartoonist Inoue Takehiko, author of Slam Dunk, all members of Slam Dunk Online’s dev team are working hard on the game development by following the principle of respecting the original worldview, characters and basketball. This is also what Inoue Takehiko hopes. And he said that he’s looking forward to the day when the development of Slam Dunk Online is completed.
Definitely another game to look out for!

Be warned though, Slam Dunk became popular thanks to *cough* GMA-7 CRAP-SUCKING KAPUSO! *cough+facepalm*. It might be a direct answer to LU!’s FreeStyle if it will come to PH!
