Samsung’s iPhone Killer - the i900 Omnia

Samsung is aggressively capturing market share with their promotions, advertisements, and viral marketing efforts. That strategy combined with a killer product will definitely give Nokia and Apple a run for their money. They recently announced that they’ll be launching the Samsung i900 Omnia this June 2008. This new unit is touted as a phone sexier and more useful than Apple’s iPhone and Nokia’s N95 8GB. If Samsung is able to deliver on a really good product with little technical problems like their U700, then the i900 Omnia might actually give them that push they need to grab a huge share of the market from Nokia here in the Philippines.

Here are the specs (from Abe):

- 3.2 inches (240 x 400 pixels) with handwriting recognition
- 128 MB RAM, 256 MB ROM
- 624 MHz Marvell PXA312 processor
- 8 GB/16 GB internal memory
- microSD (TransFlash), up to 16GB
- HSDPA, 7.2 Mbps
- Wi-Fi 802.11b/g
- Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP
- USB 2.0
- Microsoft Window Mobile 6.1 Professional
- 5 megapixel camera (2,592 ? 1,944 pixels) with autofocus, image stabiliser, flash
- built-in GPS receiver
- FM Radio with RDS
- TV Out
- DivX/XviD/WMV/MP4 player
- Optical Mouse/Touch Screen
- Built-in Accelerometer

Feature-wise, the phone is a match against Nokia’s N95. Based on the pic, it can also match up to the iPhone’s sezziness. I was actually thinking of saving up for an iPhone but after seeing this… man! Go Samsung! Hehe.

iphone and nokia are both overrated and i think it’s time samsung shows what they can do to the market. /gg

the iPhone satisfies only your craving pleasure and “being popular with an apple” thing not your value for money…

  9. Please do not be mislead by the website indicating iPhone 3Gs price…

it’s $199 in the US, and (not sure about this) sa countries kung saan sa July 11 lalabas.

Notice na may * na nakalagay sa tabi ng period after 199 doon sa poster. It means may footnote….if you scroll down some more, eto nakalagay….

“Based on 3G and EDGE testing. Actual speeds vary by site conditions. Based on iPhone 3G (8GB) and first-generation iPhone (8GB) purchases. Requires new 2-year AT&T rate plan, sold separately.

Some features and services are not available in all areas. See your carrier for details.”

There…it needs a 2-year subscription AGAIN with AT&T…well, cell phones in the US are highly subsidized dahil sa ganito. I’m not complaining about the price, and I agree that it’s cheaper than its predecessor, but don’t drool with its seemingly cheap price…check the footnotes… :D

You are not forced to subscribe.. Pwede mo naman paunlock sa greenhills..

  11. Touch screen? I hope it doesn’t malfunction easily like the U700 @_@

  12. hindi xia madali mag magmalfunction.. besides.. if may bugs or errors.. you could report it to apple then if may nagawa na xla.. update mo iPhone mo using iTunes.. kaya mgnda tlga iPhones.. though bawal magupdate using iTunes mga nagpaopen line sa greenhills..

    Sntradersonline.com
but not sure abt price i think it shuld b around 800$

  15. This is a very very nice phone. I just wonder how much it would cost me to have this baby. I do not have enough money left on my savings as I just bought myself an HP Compaq laptop. =(

I just have to sit this one out for a while, and hope it gets cheaper. Hehe!!!

I really need a smart phone. I want to retire my two year old Palm PDA because I’ve had it with lugging too much gadget with me everytime - a PDA and a phone.

    Haaaay!!! Drooooool!!!

  17. magkano kaya ung price approximately?? i was rooting for SE C905 but parang mas astig dating neto.. hmm..

  18. How much is the samsung omnia i900?

Globe handyphones is selling the iphone at:

    8g . . . . P37,500.00
    16g . . . . 42,500.00

  19. Virtel2:

The omnia is almost the same price as the iphone

    8G is about 36K
    16G is about 40-42k.

It’s practically the same price, but it’s open line, plus the plethora of features not to mention the expandable memory. I’m planning on buying an 8Gig once the price goes down a little then buying a 16G SDHC to make the memory go to a total of 24G.

I’ve held a display unit and actually played around with it. It was a nice experience. Cool yung phone.

the downside is you still have to pay for the AT&T line.. gnyan din offers ng Globe mas mura pero locked for 2 years w/c you have to pay too.. the unlock thing is out of question.. snce bbyaran mu prin un
