Reynaldo Lapus at AI7 Finals
I am your brother! Your best friend forever! These two sentences were immortalized by Reynaldo Lapus during his audition for American Idol season 7. He was so good that he got Paula and Randy to sing along and even dance with him as he dedicated the song to Simon. Though some people were ashamed that he was a Filipino, I felt a weird sense of pride when I saw him perform in the finals as a special number - complete with the marching band.

It gave me the same emotions I get when my Dad sings karaoke in public. I’m happy for him because he’s enjoying himself but also embarassed because you know he’s not that good. Whatever feelings Filipinos may get from or have about Raynaldo Lapuz’s ID7 finale performance, it will never change that its a LOL WAHAHA Tuyo’t Tinapa genuinely pang-international Pinoy moment. Marching band included!
