Ragnarok Online War of Emperium: SE
Korea Ragnarok Online (kRO) recently updated their Sakray server with Episode 12: Return of Satan Morroc. With Episode 12, we see the desert city of Morroc go up in flames. The town is literally razed and it looks much different from what we’re used to seeing. However, the biggest change that Episode 12 brought is the War of Emperium: Second Edition (SE)! It’s a totally new guild-war based competitive experience. Here’s a picture of the loading screen:

This development is a solid assurance from Gravity that they will continue to support and innovate with Ragnarok Online despite the launch of the game’s sequel. Ragnarok Online is still one of the biggest MMORPGs not just in the Philippines, but also in different parts of the world. Gravity really can’t afford to withdraw support anytime soon. More details about WoE: SE after the jump.
So what’s special about the new War of Emperium feature? Here’s the translation of the kRO patch notes done by Doddler which he posted on the iRO Wiki Forums.

* WoE:SE Tips
1. Protection Stones
Within a castle there is one emperium and two protection stones. These protection stones are the first line of defense for a castle, and without them being destroyed, attackers will be unable to enter the interior of the castle. The location of these protection stones are called defensive points. As long as the defensive points and protection stones are defended, the attacker will be unable to approach the emperium.
In addition, the protection stones can be used to summon Guardians. The number of Guardians that can be summoned is proportional to the defence value of the castle. The higher the defense the more Guardians that can be summoned by the protection stones, so invest well in castle defense. If the protection stone is destroyed, after a fixed period of time a defending guild member can repair it. The status of the protection stones can be checked through an NPC within the emperium room.
2. Barriers
The Barriers are the second line of defense in a castle should the protection stones fall. If the protection stones are both destroyed the enemy will then be able to infiltrate the castle, so these Barriers provide additional defense. They act as gates that keep the enemy out.
Within the castle there are 3 barriers which obstruct access at specific points. Protecting these barriers will help to buy some time. If destroyed a barrier cannot be repaired during siege unless the castle changes ownership, so be careful. Repairs on the barriers can only be done by the guild master.
3. Guild Flags
Within a castle there are many flags throughout. Because the barriers restrict movement through the castle, it is necessary to rely on these flags to move through the castle. These flags are called “Link Flags”. Near the emperium room there will be a place with several flags. These flags are connected to specific points in the castle that guild members can find useful for moving about. Other flags located within the castle will take you back to the emperium room. Players should try for themselves to see how these flags work.
We appreciate any testing and feedback that you can provide on the Episode 12 WoE:SE system.
Thank you for your support,
Gravity Co. Ragnarok Online Development Team.
Talk about having one hell of a war! It’s no longer about sending one cloaked Assassin Cross and breaking the emperium. You’ll have to go through the Protection Stones and Barriers even before you can enter the interior part of the fortress. The part here is that even the defensive guild has skills. Guild Masters can summon Guardians based on the economy and safeguard of their fortress. That’s a really cool feature that I’d love to see someday.
Let me just clarify that this is different and separate from the normal War of Emperium. When this gets patched in Philippine Ragnarok Online, it doesn’t mean that the old War of Emperium will no longer function. This is a new feature that everyone can try out and enjoy.
Thanks again to Doddler for the translation. You Rok man.

It won’t be too long down the road. We can get episode 11.2: Beinz as early as December or maybe January. 11.3: Nameless will probably be around Q2. That means there’s a chance we can get Episode 12 by Q3 2008. Just in time for RPC, hehe.

Hhmm, kala ko pa naman itong new kind of siege na ito ay depende sa tactics. Pero mukhang padamihan pa rin ng tao. The more people/members of a guild mas malaki ang chance na masira ang mga barriers……..
as for defense marami ding tao ang kailangan. So, what will happen to small guilds? At least sa regular WOe, small guilds still has a chance to get an agit as long as magagawa nilang mapapasok sa emp room ang kanilang breaker.

“Guild Masters can summon Guardians based on the economy and safeguard of their fortress.” — finally some reason to invest in defense after ice pick. I’m impressed.
