Ragnarok: Emergency Maintenance (August 22, 2007)
Philippine Ragnarok Online is hosted in the VITRO Data Center which is being run by ePLDT. If I’m not mistaken, all the other MMORPGs of Level-up Games like RF Online, Fly for Fun, Khan, and Perfect World are also hosted there. We recieved a report from VITRO that they’ll be doing an emergency shutdown on their end and this will obviously affect our services. This is the main reason for the 30 minute downtime that we’re experiencing right now. I won’t be surprised if other games from other companies are also down as well.
EDIT: GM Jibrelle just went into my office and she said that all servers are online again. Enjoy!

This is a separate problem from the international connection right? I mean there is still a problem with digitel, right?
August 22nd, 2007 at 5:10 pm
Yup, Digitel is a different problem. The good news though is that everything will be back to normal after the problem with Taiwan is fixed. You guys can play again, it’s just a matter of their engineers fixing the connection ASAP.

You may have heard about the problem of International Players being unable to access pRO. The Community Manager has this to say:
Based on the update that I got from our IT Head, the connection of Digitel from Taiwan to the Philippines was cut and that connection is what makes players with IP problems connect to Philippine Ragnarok Online. We have to wait for Digitel-Taiwan to fix the connection but I’ll do my best to follow it up.
I did my investigations myself, and guess what. I have a strong feeling you’ve all been given the runaround. This server on which my blog is hosted on is based in North America. I did try connecting from this server to the LevelUP severs, but I cannot. So I did what a *normal* knowledgeable IT person would have done: a traceroute. See wikipedia on that one.
Here are the results:
kaliwanagan@kaliwanagan:~$ traceroute http://www.levelupgames.ph

And the connection drops dead there.
Doing a whois (better lookup wikipedia on that one as well) says that the very last hop - 58.71.0.70 - is … guess what?
inetnum: 58.71.0.0 - 58.71.127.255
descr: Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company
And so I did a ping to 58.71.0.70 thinking that maybe the connections have been rerouted and that particular server isn’t up yet. Pinging from a computer in the Philippines is successful.
You know what I think? Taiwan my arse! The connection went inside the Philippines already, and is being blocked here! If there was any grain of truth to what that IT Head says, the connection should have been cutoff somewhere in a Taiwan IP address. But no, it stops at PLDT.
One more thing. The Quake happened 21 August. International connections have been dropped since the 19th. Go figure.
You know what’s even funnier? Connecting to http://www.pldt.com.ph from the US server works. But not levelupgames.ph which is hosted by PLDT too.
I didn’t expect anything truthful anyway, but this takes away the cake for fibbing. At least, try being much clearer when you try to put the blame on someone else, okay?
Edit: kramer says that the route has been changed, so yeah it would seem that traffic is being rerouted now. But the Quake aside (and by the talk going on at the Ragnaboards saying that LU knew of the impending deadline of the contract terms) don’t you think LU! has once again failed in satisfying its customers? Even their excuses are being routed through some personal blog. Excuses that are as muddy and unclear as all the other excuses they have been producing.

dami pdeng ngyari.. wait nlng ako d2.. chaka na ko mag gawa ng apraan pag kylangan na
August 23rd, 2007 at 3:02 am
jakal if a router could not connect to a original route it will find another way… it just so happen PLDT is the other option… try doing the trace route on your own you will see sometimes it connect to digitel and sometimes connects to pldt.
August 23rd, 2007 at 10:39 am
tanong lang ako kung nagcoconncet sa pldt bakit kailangan pa ng digitel at bakit napuputol sa pldt? wag mo naman burahin yun mga post ko wauks.
August 23rd, 2007 at 12:34 pm
kala ko rin nag connect sa PLDT pero nung nag down before ng maintenance kahapon, nag trace ako, na notice ko nasa digitel ang last hop… so ibig sabihin digitel talaga ang connection… router is just doing what it was build to do… nature kasi nila pag walang connection find an alternative route…

nakakatawa naman binubura yung post :p bakit bga?
