Philippines MMORPG EXP/DROP Bonus Rates

The Philippines MMORPG community is really addicted to bonus EXP rates. But before I even go there and discuss the topic, I’d like to announce that Philippine Ragnarok Online will have bonus EXP rates on September 5 - 12, 2007. This is to welcome Episode 11.1: Rachel which will go live on commerical servers on September 5 after scheduled maintenance. Baldur, Tyr, Freya, and Thor will be on 3x EXP while Urdr will be on 5x EXP. Here’s the link to the official announcement on the Ragnarok website. Anyway, as I was saying, the EXP rates in the Philippines are really high compared to other countries. In Brazil, they only do bonus EXP when they have new patches, and they rarely go above 2x EXP. I think this holds true for other countries that have Ragnarok as well. More after the jump.

Other games rarely used bonus EXP to promote their games. Take World of Warcraft for example. They never do bonus EXP and DROP rates. The EXP craze in the Philippines started when Ragnarok was forced to do a one week rollback sometime after Beta. To keep the players interested, Level-up Games did a 3x EXP/2x Drop Weekend. The rest is history. Each time there’s a problem or a good thing, players expect EXP. This even reached bizarre heights in 2005 when Level-up Games would do 4x and even 5x EXP Weeks!

Sadly, Gravity has resctricted has from doing multiple EXP weeks that’s why we only do them for special occassions these days. With that said, I hope you guys make the most of the 3x EXP week. It’s a good time to get back into Ragnarok, especially with the new patch combined with the bonus EXP. Rok On!

  5. before merge, kung may exp mod at least 5k players ol sa chaos, sa loki 4k+ ol players, mga 2 to 3k sa other server. After merge, last time 2x exp mod 3.5k lng players online sa baldur, tyr and freya mga 2k+ lng ol players. Ewan ko kung ilan na lng players after rpc, so far alam ko may 2 big guilds(mga 40+ members ol every seige) sa baldur quit after rpc, kadamihan ng members(around 80%) lipat sa L2. Onti onti na wla mga freds sa RO

  11. What was said about bRO is true. There was 3x exp when Iris server launched and when Heritage patch (transclasses) came. Actually, altered drop rates almost ceased to exist. That happened because the community favoured this kind of approach (rare items should be “rare”) and Level Up listened to us. On a side note, I wish I could understand #5 comment. I think there’s much to reason about it.

  17. The Filipino gamer is different from the international gamer. Pag di ka namimigay ng exp mod di tatangkilikin game mo kasi “kakatamad palevel”, “tagal naman mag-99″. It would be wise to appease the finicky Pinoy gamer with an exp mod or two every now and then if only to give them the idea that it’s worth paying for it. Otherwise there are a lot of f2p mmorpgs there that i can play instead. At least if I had to grind it out and invest a lot of time and money in it without the help of bots, it’s free to play naman.

  20. Tsaka syempre nasa developer naman yan kung gusto nya mamigay ng exp mod parati… ganun talaga mahal tayo ng LUG XD partypooper nga lang yung ibang official RO reklamo kasi ng reklamo sa Gravity inggit lang kasi.

    Dahil din sa mga exp mod na yan (at tsaka di kasi sila nanghuhuli ng bot hehe) na-expose tayo sa maraming build ng mga characters, which led to experimentation on what works best for GvG play which obviously is one of the (unspoken) main reasons for our drastic improvement from RWC 2004.

  23. meron na tayo 3x exp sa sept 5… ang problema na lang natin kung ilang tao ang generous para mameet yung 500,000,000 zeny donation (or 10,000 50k zeny donations) na need para mabuksan rachel sanctuary ;)


  24. I think #5 is just speaking the reality. Once the comment is true, the LU can accept it as a constructive comment if they will do something for the better out of the reality. But the LU can view the comment as destructive criticism if they are not willing to find a solution to a particular problem. But i believe that the LU especially Waukz is trying their best to win back the RO players.

    if you want to hear a direct testimony from a quitter, well i would say that the wipeout ang ngpadiscouraged sa amin. in our family alone we have 10 acounts we maintain RO load every month for the past 2-3 years. We consider the expenses as a fee for our enjoyment in the same way we buy ticket if we watch movie. we are not here in RO for business. It is purely for FUN. But it’s very discouraging to find out na mawala lahat na pinaghirapan na zeny dahil lang sa dupe items which we thought ok ung items na binili namin. we lost more than 4B zny worth of items tapos until walang action from LU para konting compensation man lang. Ok lang siguro if zeny ang nawala ung mga items pa naman na tagal mo nang pinag ipunan so you can buy it.

    so ang enjoyment namin ngaun ang pagbasa ng mga blog ni sir waukz. but kahit dito medyo komunti na rin ang comments. so i think this is something the RO need to think about.
