Wi-Tribe is the new player in the local broadband market. Based on the information posted on their website wi-tribe is owned by San Miguel and Qtel. I’ve been hearing about this company for several months now since a lot of my friends from SMART and Globe have been talking about it. Anyway, what’s interesting about wi-tribe is that they use 4G. Here’s the definition of their service:

wi-tribe uses 4G because it is the future of broadband technology the entire world is moving towards.

4G (Fourth Generation) is the class of technologies that delivers hi-speed broadband and multimedia services and applications.

In contrast, 3G is voice technology that is being used for some internet applications like small screen applications and casual surfing.

Facts about 4G in a broadband application:

4G is broadband that delivers true wired speeds without wires.
4G is faster because it has more bandwidth.
4G is completely portable so you can enjoy it in your office, so you can bring it to your favorite coffee-shop, or your hang out.
4G is 3 times faster than 3G technology.
4G is the preferred broadband technology that will give you the richer, pleasurable internet experience you truly deserve.

wi-tribe philippines 4g c I was able to find a wi-tribe promotional booth in Greenhills Theater Mall and I was able to use one of their demo units. I was under the impression that they’d be selling USB dongles like SMART Bro or Globe Tattoo. Much to my dismay though they were only offering a plug-and-play wireless modem which was kinda big and bulky. The good thing about this though is that you can use the modem anywhere in the Metro. Just plug the cable to your PC and power adaptor and then you can log-in and go online. Their starter package costs 900+ monthly for a 1MBPS connection. Note though that there is a 2 year lock-in period.

I decided against buying one since I already have a pretty stable PLDT connection at home. I was considering trying their service if they offered mobile USB modems but apparently it will take them a few more months before they can roll those kind of products out.

If anyone here owns a Wi-Tribe account, please do share your experience so far below in the comments section.

hmm… interesting. i tried going to wi-tribe website pero wala pang information regarding their 4g service here in the philippines.

    • kjaonline on January 31, 2010

Meh, I wonder how long they will take to arrive here in the Philippines

    • jab on February 1, 2010

      hhhmmm… that’s interesting… 4G is a a great way to go online when mobile browsing… but I’m not sure if it’s already implemented here…

    • Semidoppel on February 1, 2010

      I don’t like lock-in-period

    • roiji on February 1, 2010

maybe the lock-in period is used to pay for the modem?

    • jerdict on February 3, 2010

They offer Wimax at 1Mbps? Not interested… Same as globe’s wimax..

Also, take note of this, 3GB/mo usage only. If you exceed, your speed will be 256kbps only

If your in to downloads, definitely this is not for you.

this link is a blog article where I have compiled basic information about this new ISP

caps, modems, plans, price, speed, etc. Its there.

    • fr0stbyte on February 4, 2010

      @jerdict

3GB per month is definitely a deal break for me. I download that much per day and then some. Try multiplying that by thirty-days.. lol

    • Jam. on February 5, 2010

4G?, Interesting. I want to compare the speed of 4G versus 3G

    • Bachan on February 7, 2010

Wi-tribe will be a failure here, 3GB Cap/Month is too low for an average pinoy user, 4G is useless if the Rates/Plan is no different with the big players in the country… lmao

      Lame start for them

    • Digger on February 7, 2010

As an agent of Liberty, what Bachan said scares me since I know that the cap itself is detrimental in our sales efforts. I sincerely hope that higher management will review this cap and address it by at least increasing it to double digit at the earliest possible time. Frankly, I don’t want Liberty to fail since the solution to this is just a tweaking matter.

    • IC DeaDPiPoL on February 25, 2010

AFAIK this service caps bandwidth when using P2P/Torrents at 3Gig per month except during offpeak times.

    • Jon on February 26, 2010

      3gig a month? no thanks.

    • Raph on February 28, 2010

Naka purchase na ako ng wi-tribe maganda ang selling nila 1mbps daw when i try it dito sa bahay 112kbps lang inaabot Bf Homes Las pinas ako sabi sakop daw yun kasi metro manila naman eh bakit ganun 995 nyo wala sayang lang DSL nalang ako kahit mahal at least sulit naman… try nyo kayong bahala.

    • vincent on March 2, 2010

    • doy on March 4, 2010

    • doy on March 4, 2010

    • Ariel on March 5, 2010

    • red on March 6, 2010

I just had my wi-tribe installed, the installer told me the Cap is at 5Gig. Browsing is fast and streaming is Ok, but 5Gig cap is so disappointing, cant they give a more decent number? I will be cancelling the service before they can activate my account. This would have been a good alternative for my Globe Tattoo, since Globe and/or Smart cant provide me a wired connection in my location, if not for the 3 or 5Gig cap/mo.

    • red on March 6, 2010

Let this be a warning sa mga nagbabalak mag apply, before you do ask, dun s mga nkatry na.

    • paul on March 7, 2010

too much hype for an unrealiable service.

    • rain on March 9, 2010

Guys wag namn ganyan. Since kakastart plng nila ngayong 2010, syempre hindi pa fully utilized ung network nila. i know by mid-late 2010 , maaayos din yan at hahabol yn s mga big players ng telecommunication. -joke)

    • omar on March 9, 2010

i reach my cap 3gb for downloading 3 movies, ryt now my speed 56kbs only. (very worst Speed) so i decided to cut off my wi tribe as soon as possible.

    • Wi-Tribe SUCKS on March 10, 2010
