New Item Preview: Gentleman’s Pipe

Last maintenance we added the new premium headgear, Baphomet Horns. It was an exclusive launch for Philippine Ragnarok Online and I think other countries will patch it in the next two weeks as well. For this Wednesday, we’re going to add a new item - the Gentleman’s Pipe. Unlike the Baphomet Horns, this lower headgear item focuses more of defense.

The Gentleman’s Pipe reduces Demi-Human Damage by 2% and it’s also the very first animated Lower Headgear Item for Ragnarok Online. Yup, it really looks like your character is puffing smoke out of the pipe, hehe.

It’s not yet sure if this will be a rental or a permanent item. There isn’t even discussion on the price yet. I’ll give more information when I get it from the Ragnarok Team. That’s it for today! Hope you guys are having a great weekend!

  14. You would pay 350-500 pesos for this? Either kinukupit nyo lang yung perang pinambibili nyo dito or ginagamit nyo na pangtuition nyo. Eh yung Masquerade nga which adds damage (and therefore more useful) is less than 100K ZENY. 2% reduces next-to-nothing against a linked SB, or even a hugely nerfed WoE Acid Bomb. For that money I’d rather get stat food or defense/regeneration potions, or if I absolutely HAD to get headgear, I’d rather get a Bapho Horn.

    Gawin nyong 12% reduction against Demi-humans yan and it will be much more worth the price that they are suggesting.

    Remember kids, animations won’t save your ass from getting kicked. If any, at th very least least umuusok katawan nyo habang nakahiga kayo. Cool, pero higa pa rin kayo.

  17. How about MORE action on both the “VAL” server’s stability?. I understand that this is a business and all that repetitive jazz but how can one use these moolah generators if you can’t play right?. *sigh*

    Animated nga eh. For us, sarap makita character mo may animation hinde boring and such. Its not being strong in the battlefield.

    Hindi sa wala akong pambili, but I know the value of money because I work hard for it and I know how other people work hard for 350 pesos.

    Those who work for their money, knows the value of money. Will Waukeen himself buy it for 350 if he was still just a player? I seriously doubt it. Most likely ibibili nalang niya yan ng Champ. Busog pa siya :p

Point ko is, it is seriously overpriced at 350 pesos kahit na permanent item yan kasi napakaliit ng return on investment (miniscule damage reduction, cannot be upgraded), may katulad na siya sa market (pipe, e.pipe), and that there are more affordable alternatives to damage reduction without even spending pesos for rok points. Might be better if it were a rental item instead, or a very affordable permanent animated lower headgear at 100 pesos, para sa mga tao who cannot afford the previous animated headgear set.

    Again, if I saw there was any real advantages to getting this for such an expensive price I’d get it in a heartbeat. Di ako nagdalawang isip bumili dati ng Alice Doll at AR Hat noon kahit mahal. but this, for 350-500? No thanks.

    It also sends a bad message to kids too, that it is cool and fashionable to smoke. Di ko alam kung bakit sa lahat ng animated headgear na puwede gawin ng Gravity, pipe pa naisip nila.

    Do you think the Game Balance has been fair? I mean not all can purchase items through cash and stuffs. Maybe the Reasons for the BOT’s infesting Valkyrie is due to the (loot for zeny) thingy…

    Do you think things would be as smooth as what LU’s expecting to happen? Regarding the Battle for the Rich kids and those who can’t load..

    What’s Sense of Boss Hunting? What’s the sense of leveling if you could Buy the Premium items?

    Maybe You could share your opinion…. enlighten me please


  30. @Kittz: It depends on what server you’re talking about. If it’s the F2P servers, then it’s basically a given that the business model is that you need to pay to get the competitive edge. If there wasn’t an item mall, then there wouldn’t be a F2P server. With regards to the commercial servers, we only offer mostly consumables and the occassional premium headgear which can easily be topped by items that you can hunt for in-game.

  43. I agree with Rocky. Although I can’t fully relate (because I don’t work yet), I still have an understanding of the value of money. (I pay for my own utility bills and rental bills as I dorm every month, so I have to manage my money well.) My parents work hard for hard earned cash, and every peso counts.

    Pricing it too high will devastate the allowances of students, especially the young ones who hardly have an idea how hard it is to earn the money they’re spending. Selling an item like this in the hyper mart for a premium price will definitely still tempt a lot of kids not informed enough to think twice and who have the cash to spend (believe me, I know rich spoiled kids who literally throw away money for petty things… I came from an exclusive high school, so you can just imagine the kind of students I encounter.)

    I believe that pricing it too high may cause problems, but of course pricing it too low may cause unwanted outcomes (like an overflow of supply of this item in-game. Baka maging smokers bigla lahat ng characters sa pRO… /heh) So in terms of pricing this item, I believe 100-150 Php would be a reasonable and affordable price. /no1

    As for the item’s theme, I agree again with Rocky. Smoking pipe pa talaga yung ginamit. Not a good message to kids. Might I suggest a lower headgear that’s like a lolipop stick? (Reminds me of a campaign in ADMU regarding trading in your cigarette sticks for lolipops. /heh)

    Just my two cents. ^_^

  46. @frithiof: come to think of it.. what other animated lower headgears can they make.. the pipe smokes.. the lollipop does what? what im trying to say is..

    what would make it expensive is that it moves, its animated.
    most vain players will buy it for that reason, not for the stat attributes it could give the character.

    not all of us are after the strength of their characters, some go for looks more. and there are people who are willing to pay through the nose to get it, just for kicks.

    the 2% damage reduction is just a bonus for looking cool (for those who think smoking a pipe is cool).

    as for the price: 350php.. that would make them think twice to buy it =))

    And I would have to agree. I thought Level Up! was serious regarding their No Smoking Campaign (http://www.waukster.com/smoking-chiz-escudero-lung-cancer-and-ragnarok-2/). How sad.


  53. seriously STFU, if your not going to buy it then dont. Seriously no one cares. Even if it would cost 300php I would since I can and that wont be stoping other players who choose to to buy it. Even if its expensive it would be worth the price.
