Naruto Shippuuden Review (Ep. 39-43)
Naruto Shippuuden has picked up the pace and I’m slowly getting hooked again into watching it. I’ve always been a fan of the rivalry between Naruto and Sasuke so it’s good to see that the anime series is now heading towards that direction. . After defeating Akatsuki member Saosori, Sakura gets a valuable tip - Saosori has a spy in Orochimaru’s camp and he’s supposed to meet him in a few weeks time! Naruto teams up with Sakura, Captain Yamato, and new comer Sai (who looks sooooo gay) to investigate Sasuke and Orochimaru.
They meet up with Saosori’s spy - who turns out to be Kabuto! This was a shocker for me but what was even more surprising was the fact that Orochimaru was one step ahead and he cancelled Saosori’s hold on Kabuto ages ago. At this point we see an epic battle unfold. Naruto is enraged after Orochimaru taunts him about Sasuke. This draws out Naruto’s Demon Fox Cloak and he literally goes berserk and engages Orochimaru. Eventually the dreaded “fourth tail” materializes and Naruto is engulfed by the Kyubi’s chakra. He looses all control over his body and the demon fox’s terrifying nature is released.

Naruto’s battle with Orochimaru is a mixture of horror and action. The background sound blends really well with Sakura and Kabuto’s conversation about how the battle is no longer between two ninjas, but between two monsters. My personal favorite part though is when Orochimaru calls forth three gigantic shields to protect him against a Chakra blast by Naruto. It really looked like a nuclear bomb when the thing exploded, hehe.

For the longest time, the Kyuubi has always been a positive thing for Naruto. He draws power from it, enabling him to beat Hyuuga and Gaara in the earlier episodes. As a viewer, I felt a foreboding sense of dread as the truth about the Kyuubi is shown through the past episodes. It really is pure evil, and when it takes over it’s even deadlier than Shukaku. Imagine, Naruto was only at 4 tails and he was able to literally devastate the entire forest and Orochimaru. If it wasn’t for Captain Yamato, it’s safe to say that Naruto would have wiped out everyone in the story arc right then and there. What more if Naruto was able to draw out a fifth tail? Or maybe a sixth? Or all nine?
You really have to appreciate how well the people behind episodes 40-43 transformed the manga into animation. Though there were some dragging parts, I’d have to say that they did a pretty good job and while not everyone might appreciate how deep these episodes actually are, I’m definitely going to add Naruto Shippuuden back to my “must watch weekly” list.

Sir wauks,
you must read the manga… it’s getting very very exciting. i’m more of a manga fan than an anime fan when it comes to naruto since i have no patience waiting for anime episodes to catch up with the present manga chapters. i just hope they go double time in making anime episodes to catch up with the manga. cheers to all naruto fans. i also like bleach. a high five also to all beach fanatics. hehe.
pa OT:

Just a little error, Sir Wauks. It’s Sasori, not Saosori.

Born Uzumaki Kushina, this red-haired kunoichi was the mother of Uzumaki Naruto. When she was young she was a talkative tom boy. When she grew up her beauty, personality and Ninjutsu became known to many. It was this very personality and Ninjutsu skill which she would pass on to Naruto. At some point in time she met Namikaze Minato, the Fourth Hokage, and bore his child. When Jiraiya visited the couple during the pregnancy, he allowed Minato to read one of his latest books, a semi-biographical account of Jiraiya’s own life. The character in the story was known for his drive and determination. For that reason Minato asked Jiraiya if he would mind if he named his own son “Naruto” after the character in the story. Kushina offered her approval of the name choice. Jiraiya was embarassed and honored. Minato lost his life shortly after Naruto’s birth. Kushina’s current status is unknown.
