LU YOSI BREAK SESSION 06: Marc Reyes, Game Support Head

Marc Reyes, popularly known as Garamond or Silvermane, currently serves as the Game Support Head for Level-up Games. He oversees all the Game Moderators in the company and he regularly coordinates with the various Brand Managers from Marketing. He’s like GM Overlord of sorts, hehe.
More people I think know me as Garamond. Those who know me as Silvermaine are the old fogeys from Beta like yourself. XD
Wauks: Hi Marc! Thanks for accepting the invite for today’s Yosi Break Session. Let’s start with you telling us something about your stay here at Level-up. How long have you been working here and under what capacities?
Marc: I’ve been here since June 20, 2003. That’s more then three and a half years! One of the curious quirks of my stay is that for the first 2 years of my career I’ve never had the same job for more then six months. My internal resume in Level Up attests to this:
1. June 2003 – September 2003 – Ragnarok Field GM, Night Shift “Silvermaineâ€
2. September 2003 – January 2004 – GM Shift Coordinator, Night and Swing shifts, still “Silvermaineâ€
3. January 2004 – May 2004 –Testing Coordinator for Ragnarok Online
4. June 2004 – January 2005 – First Game Play Specialist, Level Up Product Development. Coordinated testing for RO Episode V: Juno
5. January 2005 – July 2005 – First Senior Game Play Specialist, tested for ROSE online, Coordinated testing for RO Episodes Amatsu/Kunlun, Umbala/Nifelhiem.
6. August 2005 – December 2005 – Acting Game Manager for RF Online “Garamondâ€
7. January 2006 – October 2006 – Game Manager for RF Online “Garamondâ€
8. October 2006 – November 2006 – Game Support Manager for RF Online, Ragnarok Online, and Khan Online
9. November 2006 – Present – Game Support Manager for all of Level Up’s Online Games.
Wauks: That’s a pretty long list you got there, hehe. RO Players know you as GM Silvermaine while RF Players know you as GM Garamond. Isn’t it hard keeping a lot of alter egos?
Marc: Actually yes it is. You tend to focus on one or the other. I have to admit I’ve been inactive in Ragnarok Online since late 2005, focusing more on RF Online. More people I think know me as Garamond. Those who know me as Silvermaine are the old fogeys from Beta like yourself. XD
Wauks: Wtf is a fogey?! Anyway, I’m sure you’ve met a lot of players, in-game and in real life. What’s the weirdest encounter?
Marc: One night in 2003 on standard night patrol I entered the open chatroom of a female acolyte which read: “AFK Stuying for an Examâ€.
So I entered the chatroom and typed “Good luck in your exam!†I really didn’t think much about then incident since I normally am “nice†in-game, (unless I catch bots). Fast forward to December 2005. My girlfriend told me one night after meeting up after work.
“Do you remember the first time we met?†she asked me.
“Yep, that was way back in April 2005 right?â€
“Nope.†She said. “Do you remember an AFK Acolyte studying for an exam? That was me.â€
Wauks: That’s sweet! Talk about seredipity. What’s your most memorable experience here at Level-up?
Marc: The “Heores†incident comes to mind… It was the Ragnarok Philippine Championship 2005, and there were a flurry of new loading screens for upload to the game. One of the loading screens which almost got uploaded to the game client had a gross misspelling: “Ragnarok Philippine Championship 2005: Where HEORES are born†He-Ores. I was laughing my guts out when I saw that loading screen. I was considering letting it slip and sharing the joke with the rest of the RO community… but I didn’t want to embarrass our spelling-challenged graphic artist at the time…
Wauks: What can we expect out of GM Garamond/Silvermane for 2007?
Marc: Another identity! Mwahahaha! But seriously… I will be involved in the community development of Level Up’s new game, Perfect World… of course I’ll go by another name. But that doesn’t mean I won’t be behind the scenes in RF Online and Ragnarok Online either. I learned my trade as an RO GM, and RF Online is my “baby†since I saw it from the very beginning… those two games will always be close to my heart.
But well I have to think about the other games too… The problem with being promoted is that the further up the ladder you go, the more distant you are from the players. So I might not be as involved as I was before, not even with Perfect World.
Wauks: Thanks for the time Marc! Do you have a parting message with the readers of Waukster Online?
Marc: I’d like to keep in touch with you guys, the players of the LU games and hear your thoughts and views. In line with this I have a blog set up called “Servers and Dice†.
Do drop by sometime. ^^
