Kristen Kreuk as Chun-Li for the next Street Fighter Movie

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Do you guys watch Smallville? Well if you do then you probably know Kristen Kreuk who plays Clark Kent’s first love interest, Lana Lang. She’ll be dropping the girl-next-door look when she debuts as Chun-Li in the next Street Fighter movie. Yes, you read that right. There’s ANOTHER Street Fighter LIVE movie being made and Kristen Kreuk will be Chun-Li. Find out more after the jump.

The movie is called Street Figher: Legend of Chun-Li and it’s directed by Andrzej Bartkowiak, the man behind DOOM which starred WWE superstar “The Rock”. The story of the movie will be centered on Chun-Li and not on everyone’s favorite, Ryu.

Please, for the love of God, don’t make this into a movie like the one where Van Damme starred in. Here’s a video of Jean-Claude portraying Guile to refresh your memory.

I can still remember how badly that movie left me scarred. heh

  2. aw isa s mga super crush ko yan since smallville pa waaaaaaaaaaa

  3. wehehe.. usong uso pa ang haduken nun sa playground! wachaaa!!!!

  4. So the main character would be Chun Li then!

Any idea how the storyline is going to be?

    Kristen Kreuk is hot! :D

  5. @Deimos: I have a feeling that it will be how her father is killed and how she eventually takes on M. Bison. It would be nice to see other SF characters in that movie though (Ryu).

  6. ganda nia lalo pag nag-spinning kick /no1

  7. the first movie was half-okay, half-not. the whole movie was okay, but i wished they had casted more well-known celebs for other roles such as ryu and ken. with the impact SF was making in the video game industry by that time, the movie should have made great impact. sadly though only a few well known stars (kylie minogue, ming-na, van damme, wes studi and the late raul julia) were featured and it made the other SF characters as supporting casts. [i really liked raul julia's portrayal of bison]

what’s worse was what it did to the pretty ming-na. instead of putting a pair of “bao-bao” similar to the item in RO, they fixed her hair to make it look like she’s wearing one. and that make up… IMO it was overdone (see the video on this blogpost). if you’ll go to ming-na’s website [www dot ming-na dot com] you can see her pics. she’s 13-14 years older now than the 1994 Chun-Li she portrayed but she looks better now and it’s all because of the makeup. i mean, have u seen chun-li with HEAVY MAKEUP in the SF games not counting the movie’s game version? (I’m no expert in makeups but as an avid fan of street fighter, i can’t help but notice this)

i was actually surprised that kristen kreuk is gonna play Chun-Li. i never imagined her in an action type of movie since i’ve known her only on smallville. but i guess her looks (and her age) fits the role perfectly… i just hope they don’t dress her up like how they did to ming-na.

  8. It’s Kristin’s Kreuks(Smallville) turn now to be a hero..hmmm. Can she move like Chun-Li does? I DON’T THINK SO. So expect her to have a double.

  9. Kristin’s Kreuk??? Shouldn’t Chun-Li be Asian?

  10. I just hope that this is going to be a special effects movie. What they did to Guile’s Somersault, Ryu’s Hadouken, and Ken’s Shoryuken in the first movie was an insult to the special moves in SF.

Depending on weather Kristen Kreuk wants to retain her “girl next door-ish” image or go for a “sex playtha’ng” persona, Chun-Li will either support a costume based on her leotard and yellow ribbons look from SFZ or her more famous mutilated Chinese dress, spike bracelets and Bao Bao combo.

Regardless of costume I really can’t picture Kristen Kreuk as Chun-Li. My idea of a real life Chun-Li is what most Filipinos consider a beautiful Chinese woman is supposed to be: Of slightly more than average height, healthy petite body, clear white skin, perfectly “singkit” eyes, and a voice that can go from squeaky sweet to powerfully dominant in a heartbeat. Unlike Kristen Kreuk which I would describe as a compromise between what Hollywood studios think a Caucasian-Asian-Latina girl would look like. Kristen Kreuk is a beautiful girl but not my idea of a beautiful Chinese woman, which Chun-Li is supposed to be.

  11. come on wauks thats the best Guile speech evah!

  12. @Gooseman: Remember Bison’s torpedo? Hahaha! Raul Julia was great but he wasn’t really able to pull off all the M.Bison moves. @Zechs: Are you serious? Lol.

  13. @gooseman

guile’s flash kick in the first movie was done correctly. that was the way it should be done. if you’ll look at guile’s flash kick frame-by-frame in the street fighter video game series and try to imitate it (assuming you’re a hip-hop dancer), there are some frames that are in the wrong sequence (or should’ve been left out). It’s hard to imitate it simply because some of the frames are either irrelevant or in the wrong sequence.

on the other hand, ryu’s fireball (just a flash of light) and ken’s dragon punch (which seemed to me as just a regular uppercut) were simply awful. and if i remember correctly the hurricane kick was only done by one of them and showed only one kick (giving the impression that no one lasts that long airborne haha).

although i can give kristin kreuk a chance to play chun-li, there would be one asian actress that i would suggest to play the role… how about ZIYI ZHANG? she looks young, turning just 29 this february (3 years older than kristin) and is a natural Chinese.

what totally kills me about that movie is how it happens to be the great Raul Julia’s last film. now *that* sucks. :(

  15. @aerionn

it wasn’t his last movie actually… but it was the last one in which he was most remembered. gomez addams = bison haha.

  16. oops rephrase… yes it was his last movie but not the last of any production in which he starred. ^^

  17. no chuck norris

  18. ako daw si ryu…^^,v

  19. well, kristin kreuk is no chinese IMO, chun-li should be chinese..

one more thing, if they will make a chunli-centered movie then the actress that will be portraying the role of chun li should hell be able to don chun li’s costume (the mutilated one pls) and do the moves almost perfectly..

and wat i wnat to see is the chun li actress being pitted up against zangief in the movie and be subjected to stomach pumps and the spinning piledriver..that kind of fight was never even done in any street fighter film and should be featured in this upcoming (great?) film

  20. yeah i know this girl.. ’cause i always watch smallville, and I think she is gonna interpretate Chun Li very good.

and she isn’t chinese but it doesn’t matter..

  21. Kristin Kreuk is Half Chinese Indonesian and Dutch you morons. Obviously she is not full Chinese but she is part.
Also, I do not think she is as experienced to be the part as Chung Li. An Actress like Chik yeung tin si from the movie So Close, would be suitable for the part of Chung Li.
