I was finally able to watch the latest Star Trek movie which was directed by JJ Abrams. I was honestly expecting crap since Hollywood has been doing a good job at butchering legendary franchises but man, this movie literally blew me away. I’m not a hardcore fan of Star Trek, but I was able to watch a fair share of episodes and movies. I won’t hesitate to pimp this movie out to you guys because I really enjoyed it. If you haven’t watched it yet, then make our way to the movie theater and do so! It’s worth every peso. Reasons why I loved the movie after the break.
Casting was perfect
Each time that they would introduce a “new” character, you can’t escape the feeling of nostalgia. You can’t help but compare the face you’re looking at now with the old faces a decade ago. I’d have to say that the casting director did an excellent job. All the characters for me were a perfect match, especially Scotty and Bones. Here’s a picture of the characters from the old and the new side-by-side for your reference.

Non-stop Action
There was no boring or dragging moment in the entire film. I’m not sure if it was more than 2 hours but it definitely was a thrilling experience every second. You’re always kept at the edge of your seat wanting more and more. The plot twists will pump up your adrenaline and sometimes even awe you. This is a quality that a lot of films these days don’t have anymore and it’s good to find that in JJ Abrams’ Star Trek.
Old Spock Kicks Ass
The fact that they put in the old Spock in the movie was fantastic. Some people think it was too much of a hard sell but I don’t think so. Seeing the old Spock there made the movie more real and relevant, seeing as everyone is likely to compare this version to the previous Star Trek movies and television series. I look at it as more of a tribute done by the writers, producers, and director of the movie.
With that said, I’m happy to let everyone know that JJ Abrams’ Star Trek is the best performing Star Trek movie of all time.
Kudos to the crew behind this movie! You guys definitely made history.

I saw the movie with five of my workmates and none of them are Star Trek fans. I once told them that I was a “Trekkie” so when X-Men Origins: Wolverine wasn’t available they all voted to watch Star Trek. All of them loved it. Even now they’re still quoting lines from the movie and doing the Vulcan “salute.” I, on the other hand, am a different story. I liked the movie fine but not as much as them.
This movie attempted exactly what Star Trek: Enterprise tried to do for the Star Trek TV franchise, which is, appeal to new audiences while retaining old fans. Enterprise failed miserably; not only did it not attract new fans, it also alienated loyal followers. This new Star Trek however; successfully reeled in new audiences and managed to keep most of the old fans happy or at least entertained.
This movie was made with the general public in mind and not to keep old Trek’s fan base happy. It made for a good movie, it was great, but just didn’t feel like Star Trek to me.

pros:
kid spock was awesome, kicking bully ass like that.
the new beaming effect was nice.
cons:
the bridge of the enterprise never looked so… white.
scotty didn’t get the screen time he deserved.
the revenge plot was rather shallow.
i never new the NCC-1701-A had that much firepower.

In every Star Trek movie with the TNG crew, there was only enough time to feature two lead characters; with ST: Generations it was Picard and Kirk and with the rest of the TNG movies it was Picard and Data. In the Star Trek TV shows, each main character eventually gets his/her own episode, in each season, and play the lead but this can’t be done in a movie. In this new Trek movie the leads are Kirk and Spock and the rest of the crew, however iconic they were back in the original series, are just minor characters, not given enough screen time, not showcased properly, and just a few notches above the extras.

forgot to say they stayed faithful to the deadly red suits, a pro btw.
@gooseman, i was just irked that scotty was introduced so late in the movie.
