The iPhone 4 still isn’t being sold in the Philippines by official and unofficial sources. Usually when a product like the iPhone 4 debuts in the US, it’s only a matter of days before we see them in the Philippines. I talked with some of the usual suspects who sell gray market products and they told me that some of them already have iPhone 4 units here but they can’t sell it yet because no one has figured out yet how to unlock the phone for local carriers (Globe, Smart, Sun). This sounds logical and this might really be the reason why we haven’t heard of iPhone 4′s in the country yet. As for the gray market price, hold on to your seats for this one. Some gray market sellers are estimating the price to be a whooping P46,000-P50,000 for the iPhone 4 16GB model!
The gray market price is still that high despite the signal issues which hounded Apple since the product launch. That’s what you call a “magical & revolutionary” product! It can withstand that much bad PR and still sell 1.7M in just 3 days.
Anyway, there’s no official announcement yet but a lot of local tech pundits are saying that Globe Telecom will still probably have exclusive rights for distribution of the iPhone 4 in the Philippines.
