    swine flu prevention

Since majority of the readers of this blog are gamers and anime fans, I’m not really that sure if you guys follow the news that much, haha! Anyway, if you don’t know what Swine Flu is about, then you read up on it. It’s basically a new strain of Flu that has been spreading across the world in the past few weeks. The World Health Organization has raised the alert level to 5 (maximum of 6), 1 short of being a global pandemic. It started in Mexico but there has been a recorded case already in Hong Kong. Noemi from About My Recovery wrote a very informative post on Swine Flu and I’d like to share it with all of you so at least you guys know what to do in order to avoid getting it if it finds its way here in the Philippines.

    1. frequent handwashing

Wash your hands, wash your hands, wash your hands! “Hand washing with soap and water for at least 20 seconds after touching objects, surfaces or another person’s hands can physically remove cold viruses,” Dr. Clifford W. Bassett, an assistant clinical professor of medicine at the Long Island College Hospital and faculty member of NYU School of Medicine

    2. covering up coughs and sneezes,
    3. staying away from work or school if not feeling well
    4. Avoid hugging and kissing at public gatherings or the beso-beso. Let’s just wave at each other instead

There is a chance that Swine Flu can enter the Philippines, especially with our OFW situation. We have thousands of Filipinos going in and out of the country from various places of the world everyday.

It’s funny that political analysts are afraid that CHA-CHA will postpone the 2010 Presidential Elections. They should be more worried about Swine Flu. If it hits the Philippines and the vaccine is not made readily available, we’ll probably have to postpone the elections lest it spreads like wildfire.

Note that if you get Swine Flu, you’re not 100% dead. Just make sure to take care of yourself, take vitamins, do the stuff above, and if you feel bad and you think you have it, then don’t hesitate to go to the nearest hospital.

we’ll be in deep trouble if that thing hits the phils… we’re really shorthanded on that Tamiflu antibiotics… I just read the statistics…. We only got 450k units of those… considering our population and considering that one full treatment per person is 10 units. that’s only 45k persons assistaed.

Update, its actually not called swine flu anymore, because people tend to assume that you can get it by eating pork. But you can’t actually get it from consuming pork but rather you can get it by contact with another person which is infected by it. hehe…
Its called influenza A (H1N1) virus.

Maria Bulacan??? they kill all those pigs that is infected with viruses… actually it is swine flu… hahaha

to mav~mia what the hell are you saying??? you will use tamiflu for a viral attack??? tamiflu is antibacterial agent… and how come it can kill viruses…. did you know that bacteria is way more different than viruses???

    • Bot101 on May 5, 2009

sorry my apologies… tamiflu is not an antibiotics its an anti viral….well for those who believe that swine flu can be cured by using ANTIBIOTICS well you’re wrong use Tamiflu (oseltamivir) or Relenza (zanamivir) wich are both ANTIVIRAL

The causes of seasonal and swine flu exist at the extreme end points of protein production. Seasonal flu emerges from an organic process in which ducks eat bugs and people eat ducks on subsistence farms. This pandemic flu may have emerged from a food factory using the latest antibiotics.

      Swine flu facts
      1. Bot 101 is right. HOWEVER, it has been proven that it can create resistance among patients. In other words, DONT be too lax in using Tami flu. Note: We do have stocks of Tami flu BUT the government doesnt want to release it because the panic may do more harm than good.

2.But Bot 101 is also wrong. US didnt overreact. It just so happen that in the 1920s swine flu claimed millions of lives. Actually, US is not the one who is “panicking” here but WHO itself. A lethal pandemic is very serious. The good thing about swine flu is even though it is highly contagious, it is less lethal than avian flu, hence low mortality rate. However, if it mutates and acquire the properties of avian flu which is very lethal (though less contagious), as the disease spreads in Asia, Im telling you there is no more time to panic. Still remember, when DOH quarantined the whole barrio because of a single case of SARS (patient actually died).

thanks for the tips. regardless of whether we have the resources to contain an epidemic or not, I say better be safe than sorry. we should take all possible measures to prevent contamination and spread of this flu.
