Honda City vs Toyota VIOS

I’m currently planning on buying a car and I’ve narrowed down my choices to either the new Honda City or the Toyota VIOS. I’m not a car expert so I’ll try to use this blog to get some much needed advice! If there are any car experts out there reading this blog, PLEASE HELP ME OUT. Here are the specs and pictures of the two cars that I’m picking from.

The VIOS is actually really nice. Based on the reviews I’ve read over the internet, it’s really fuel efficient and maintenance won’t be expensive since it’s a Toyota. The design is also sleek and fashionable. It’s also actually very affordable at a price tag of just PHP 575,000. That’s a very low cash out for the DP (15%) and the monthly amortization wouldn’t hurt too much. The only thing I don’t like with this one is that I keep seeing too many VIOS units around especially since Taxi companies and local police forces use them as their staple car. This can also be a good thing - it means that the VIOS is MATIBAY.

The HONDA CITY is also a good buy at the same price as the VIOS (575,000). The pros for this one is the resale value (I think). Most of the people I’ve talked to keep on telling me that Honda cars sell high even if they’re already second hand.

I’m going to test drive both this weekend and hopefully make a decision by next week. If you have any input, comments, suggestions, violent reactions, please go ahead and leave a comment. Just don’t suggest buying second hand because I would really prefer to buy a brand new one.

After I buy the car, I’ll write a basic guide on Car Financing through banks. It will be very simple and easy to understand. I’m sure that a lot of you are wondering about the mechanics of loans like this one.

Thanks in advance to everyone who’s going to help me out!

  1. get the Hyundai’s new fuel efficient Car. It runs on diesel, and is only 12 hundred cc, you can imagine how fuel-efficient it is. Do check it out, the price tag is 700k+ but in terms of crude oil savings, this would be an investment. An example of its efficiency is, from Muntinlupa, to Baguio city, gas expenses cost only P500.

  4. I’ll go for the Honda City

Toyota… new and improve VIOS kc yan eh…

@ Save The Queen… Talaga napaka mura na ung 500 pesos na gas papuntang baguio.. haha

  6. honda city? why not honda civic?

  7. Sir Wauks! If you are going for fuel efficiency I suggest you go for the Toyota Vios or Honda Jazz.

  8. your referring to Honda City 1.3 A MT right? the entry model for honda cars? if so, its a good car, meron ganyan kaibigan ko BUT… if your willing to spend more, id suggest a Honda Civic 1.8 V MT, its P810,000 but its resale value is off the roof and its features and engine is awesome, a very good chick magnet too ^_^

and about sa vios… its a pang masa car… its like a tamaraw fx… its a shame to drive one… well at least for me hehehehhe

  10. the japanese cars really do create good quality cars .. the only good thing toyota manufactured their cars is their fuel efficiency buuut ill vote one for the Honda if your not a frequent traveller .. but for me ill choose the Civic too ^^ or kung talagang mapera ka mag-Hummer ka at sagasaan ang mga pasaway sa ragnarok bwahahaha!!

  11. I’m not sure about how car market work over there pero para sakin i’ll just buy any second hand car that is fuel effecient, specialy if you are planning to use your car on work, (take this as an advice for me… gas here is $3.20 per gallon and my car sucks at 18mi / gal, almost $50 a week to me to get around and work everyweek) as for buying second hand car, dito kasi pag bumili ka ng brand new at paglabas na paglabas mo palang sa car lot, depreciated na ang value ng car kahit 10mi palang ang odometer mo. SO IN BUYING NEW CARS just go for a second hand car na matipid sa gas and just give thanks for those rich guys who buys new one but if youre the rich one then yeah buy a new car and maybe i’m the one who might find it somewhere when you already sold it

  12. i forgot to add, not just any second hand car, reasonable car for reasonable price, and embed ko din un vid ng dead fantasy sa friendsty ko… nice one

  13. Dont buy a vios unless you want people waving hands at you as you drive by.. (thinking that you’re a taxi of course) =)

  14. Go for a second-hand car that’s bigger. Both models you are considering are rather… small.

  15. I had the same problem before. Toyota vs Honda. Masa vs Class (like everybody is saying). I started testing several brand new cars and ended up choosing from 4 cars namely Vios, City, Altis and Civic. I’m an image freak also rooting for Honda because I want to avoid the Masa image also of Toyota. After several surveys, online forums and recommendations from different people, I ended up buying Altis and I never regret it.

Here were some inputs that I considered:

    “Image”
Toyota = Masa image..yuck jologs..Civic - conyo, class…etc (screw this mentality)..Not because I have Altis. According to mechanics and car specialist even buy and sell people, generally it’s true Honda reigns in Private cars, well back in the late 90s but today its Toyota who’s winning the image race. I am also a resident in the US and behold most people have vios and corollas than civics ( I think i haven’t seen any city yet). Check also some car shows online and see how Toyota shines over Honda. Design wise, Vios wins by a mile over City.

    “Resale Value”
Honda sells higher than Toyota. I also heard this a lot but after checking with some 2nd hand retailers and owners even online ones, both brands have the same price. It always boils down to mileage, car condition and other factors. If you’re really planning to sell your car in the future, think of it this way, how many honda enthusiast buy cars? 1, 2?…how many toyota enthusiast buy cars? 1, 2? Now how many “taxi” businessman and public authorities buy toyota cars? Hundreds, Thousands… See my point? So the “Masa” image is also an advantage after all…

    “Tibay ng Kaha”
Most people that I asked preferred the old city/civics than new ones because of metal thickness and durability. In terms of durability and driver safety I go for Toyota, not to mention my bumper was hit by a bus on the side, the bumper didn’t have any deformation. You can even check it yourself. Toyota cars are by far thicker than Honda. See how totally wrecked a Honda when you see it in the news?

    “Space” and “Power”
Try to call some people and check if 3-4 people will comfortably fit at the back. Overload it with people then test drive it. See if the car’s engine will have a hard time. I tested 1.3s 1.5s which is why i ended up 1.6 Corolla Altis. You’ll never know but there will come a time that your car needs to be overloaded. If you plan to go to Baguio, go for 1.5 higher.

    “Fuel efficiency”
It’s hard to trust people with regards to this one because we have different driving styles. Determine it on your own when you test drive brand new ones.

    “Price and Maintenance”
If City and Vios have the same price. Then I go for Vios because of parts availability and cheaper maintenance. Not to mention surplus on a tight budget…

    Good luck!

  16. You like VIOS, I can feel it. Hehe!

  17. Hi Wauks,

Been a while since I last posted coz I couldn’t find a topic I’d like to leave a comment about but this one really caught my attention since I myself am deciding to buy a car already and I’m faced with the same choice as you are right now.

Well not really the same but almost. I’m choosing between 1) honda civic vs corolla altis OR 2) honda city vs toyota vios. I’m not quite decided yet but im leaning more towards the choosing number 2. But that’s another topic altogether. Hehe.

My choice would be the honda city. I don’t know why but eversince I started driving (my father’s old civic vs my mother’s corolla), hondas were really easier to drive than toyotas for me. If they aren’t that much different in the price category I’d easily pick the honda.

Lastly, I know you already mentioned it but I wouldn’t want to be driving around the streets of metro manila and suddenly have right next to me a taxi that’s exactly like my car. Hehehe

  18. Tignan mo nalang ang track record ng Toyota vehicles in the span of more than 40 years para makapag decide ka.

Yun din ang reason bakit pinipili ang Vios/Corolla as a fleet car: low/easy maintenance, fuel efficient and very durable.

  19. i go for the vios.. ang honda kse taas sa maintenance… pero pag gs2 monu pumorma… sa City ka nlng or try mo rin Corolla altis.. its better than Vios… I THINK!!

  20. I’d pick Toyota Vios over Honda City, and Honda Civic over Toyota Altis.

I own one a City and Civic and have driven Vios and Altis for sometime also.

Honda City: the gearbox tends to stall at 2nd gear going to 3rd. Vios is much better. City’s compartment isn’t big as well.

No faults for Toyota Altis but I love the Honda Civic. Great Cars. Civic is a beautiful car to drive and so’s the Altis. I just tend to love the Civic’s design.

  21. VIOS
advanatages : more fuel efficient, cheaper spare parts so cheaper to maintain.
downside : “pangtaxi” and “pangpulis” car.

    CITY
advantages : higher resale value, nore durable than vios.
disadvantages : more expensive to maintain.

both cars are OK in terms of fuel efficiency, mas lamang lang VIOS. maintenance lamang pa din ang VIOS. if your planning to get the car “pangmatagalan” and not sell it after 3 to 5 yrs then my choice would be the VIOS, lamang nga CITY sa durability but nasa driver yan and paano mo alagaan car mo. lamang nga with the resales value but with the fuel savings ang regular maintenance savings you get, bawi mo na in the future in case you decide to sell your car right? “pangtaxi” and “pangpulis” is just mentality, kaya lang walang CITY na taxi is because may contract ka when you buy honda cars na di mo gagawing taxi. also FYI, i know now na ganun na din ang VIOS, may contract ka nang pipirmahan na di mo sya gagawing taxi.

  22. wauks, no offense pero d bgay sau yung mga gnyan klaseng kotse, you know
you’re a big man, and you also need a really big car, try go for SUV car rather than Sedans.
and i also suggest to buy Nissan Cars, kasi they are proven with the passenger safety and powerful
airconditioning system.
Toyota Cars are good, pero if you notice marami nasisiraan from 1-2 years bago nla nbili ang kotse.
Hyundai Cars are Lata, alam mo yung pag sinandalan mo nayuyupi. kya i prefer to go NISSAN.

  23. @Rocky

Honda and Toyota are both equally easy to maintain and fuel efficient. Trust me, I know. My father drives a Honda while my mother drives a Toyota. Pareho lang silang durable at fuel efficient.

Being equally easy to maintain and fuel efficient plus the fact that they are almost priced the same ano pipiliin mo? For me it would be the honda dahil sabi ko nga its the driving experience that matters to me.

Plus factor nalang yung di siya ginagamit as a taxi.

  24. how about considering jazz instead of the city.

  25. I’ve driven both, bro, but the City is sturdier. The Vios I used to drive is now karag-karag. The City, on the other hand, despite being the same age and driven under the same conditions as the Vios, is still fresh.

Here’s a good tip: Since you’re taking both cars on test drives, I suggest you go with gut feel (well, at least make it a major factor in your decision). If the shoe fits …

Hmmm, what happened to the Nissan Sentra? Haha.

  26. I think kung papapiliin ako I will definitely go for Honda, higher resale value BUT…. Think about this. Kung gusto mo mataas na resale value dapat yung car mo kakalabas lang I mean yung all new ah, not yung pinalitan lang ang ilaw, nilagyan lang ng side skirt then new na. dapat yung kakalabas lang nung model na yon sa market.

    vios last year yata 2007
    altis this year 2008.
camry last year din yata 2007
    honda civic is 2006
honda accord this year din 2008
    honda jazz forgot na din

Toyota and Honda usually change their cars every 5 years so expect toyota to release an all new vios around 2012.

  27. go for honda, honda aint high maintenance duh! and honda is actually known to be fuel efficient almost all of its models compared to other car companies..

& yeah.. honda cars still do sell high if u want to sell it in the future compared with toyato.. it also explains why there’s no honda taxis around.. honda’s top class..

    go for honda ^_^

  28. honda for resale value :D

vios if u want to be a taxi driver.. lol

  29. VIOS

  30. FYI nong unang panahon indi pa inintroduce ung honda motors dito sa pinas for the last few decades & to be specific sa sinabi ni ROCKY w/c was veryt exagerated (last 40 years).. toyata aint known for fuel efficiency among the two… HONDA is.. i might add, HONDO has the most noise pollution produced by its engine.. their very well known to that.. kaya minsan ironic cinocustomize karaniwang honda cars for car shows and make their engine much louder… ika nga for show and tell..

& tama c chardy, nasa pag-alaga rin yan ng kotse… inde katakataka bat usually mga old cars cruising along manila, one is toyata… eh mas maaga cla naestrablished as a company and mas nauna rin cla naimport d2 sa pinas..

  31. ^^ some typos

  33. i’ll go for the city po. although medyo pricey in terms of maintenance costs worth it naman eh. iba talaga kapag Honda. pero kung costs talaga yung concern. vios na lang… cool din po yun ^^

  34. Guys thanks sobra sa mga input and advice ninyo. I’ll just do another post na when I actually decide and get the car. I’m aiming to get it 2nd week of April. Wish me luck!

    Again, thanks everyone!

  35. honda ka na wauks /no1
kung nahihirapan ka pari mamili, both nalang /heh

  36. WAUKS!! HONDA LANG LAGI XD

  37. The only reason why Honda’s better is because the cars they are selling are exclusive and for private use only. Unlike Toyota and Nissan, wherein there are now tons of Vios taxis out there.

If it were me I’d definitely get the City. And to the person who asked why not buy Civic instead, maybe it’s because Civic is more expensive than the City?

Wauks — try to expand your choices, there are lots of cars out there. Why not reconsider for a Suzuki Swift of Chevrolet Optra?

  38. Chevrolet optra has good handling too. Had the chance to test drive one. Although they say its not that fuel efficient. ^^

  39. visit tsikot.yehey.com

you can check many many feedbacks about those 2 cars

  40. Is it too late to suggest another car! I want you to get the VOLVO C30. First it looks cool and according to a friend of mine, it’s fuel efficient, and did i say its a VOLVO. :P

Oh well never mind me i just love that car model =)). I don’t know much about cars but you must avoid Hyundai. I call their cars “disposable” >.< . We were once Hyundai owners we had to sell it because a lot of the parts broke down after a year, and we are not the only one who experienced this.

  41. honda city nalang wauks, mas elegante honda hehehehe

  42. sir… mas maganda honda pero mas mahal ung parts at maintenance…

  43. Sir Wauks,

Chery QQ nalang the super fuel efficient car from china(looks like chevrolet model).

    Price tag of P300,000

  44. chevrolet optra mhal parts ^^

    honda city tahimik makina

    d ko lang alam vios..

    :D

Dali pang i-customize. Oha.

Clarence nga pala to sa old Pangya Forums. I hope you still remember me.

  47. buti nalang nilabas mo na tong blog na to i am also planning to buy a car Vios or City,

So ano pang hinihintay mo MAG CITY NA TAYO hehehe!

sana post mo na kung ano kinuha mo! and tell us WHY and BAKIT! =P

  48. I’ll decide by Monday next week! If I get the car na, I’ll post the pictures. Hehe.

  50. wauks, i am helping you in getting the right decision… it is all up to you whom to believe… i am an expert in matters like this…

  51. sir, i’m going to wait for your basic guide sa car financing thru banks!

    thanks in advance

  52. toyota is the bestseller sa province namin.. i market toyota cars and it is easy to sell. walang sinabi ang honda cars pangasinan sa toyota dagupan in terms of sales volume.

  53. Hi there …. u should go for the honda
Its much more faster and stable than the toyota plus its nicer from the inside

  54. Wauks, we had the same problem, I am also choosing between City and Vios based on the comments above I would prefer Vios, its a practical choice for a professional and a family man. We need to consider also how efficient the car would be in terms of fuel use and maintainability.

Anyway, pag nakabili ka na inform mo kami which one you picked up and give us some advice why you choose that over the other.

Thanks, same with lups, witll be waiting for the basic guide sa car financing thru banks.

  55. Maybe you already bought a car, so this wouldn’t make a difference. Well my dad just bought a Toyota Vios, a 1.3J. Yes, it’s small and all that stuff and there are taxis around that are the same. But you know, I don’t see why it’s such a big deal.. (and I’m not saying this just because my family has a Vios) I see so many Altis taxis around too. Who cares if it’s pang-masa and all that crap? So many people are so concerned with their image! It’s a CAR. You ride it, it works well for you, that’s what should matter most. Do whatever you want and do not listen to stupid advice regarding pangmasa, taxi, blah blah blah. It’s all bullshit.

  56. Right!!!Shalini is so right!!! Kung nakabili ka na,sana you made the right choice….TOYOTA Vios

  57. After things have been said and done, I think the main comparison here is just between the City and the Vios. I can feel that the buyer has locked his mind on these two models.

The Honda people here should no longer be dwelling on the possibility of a civic for a classier car; there are lots of better cars aside from a civic if his intension is class.

I would like to share you my thoughts between the City and Vios, it is not a fact to tell that the vios has no EPS(electronic Power Steering) same thing to say that City is more economical. Ideal location (laboratory testing) has awarded Toyota Engine as the most economical 2nd only is Honda. Please do not bombard me with “It depends to the driver”, in real word driving, that statement is indeed true.

It is also exaggerated to say that City is Classier than Vios. It is also stupid to say that you are a Taxi Driver when you’re behind the steering wheel of a Vios. I know you are looking for a good reason; Toyota has good and fast resale value coupled with the massive availability of cheap and quality parts. Interior is comparable or more detailed, this depend on the reviewer.

With this edging advantage, I can say that Vios is far better than the City.

  59. [...] Picking a Car This is the fun part! I strongly suggest that you really research on your options. Buying a car is a big purchase and will affect your cash flow for the next 3-5 years so better make sure that you’re making the right decision. You can go to all the dealers (Honda, Mitsubishi, etc.) and ask for a test drive of your potential next car. I also suggest that you read up on the experiences of other people in various car websites and magazines such as C!. One website that I really found very helpful was Yehey’s Tsikot. Check out their forums as they already have dozens of threads with comparative analysis on various cars, including the great VIOS vs CITY debate. [...]

I go for Vios. Haha Sir! i suggest you choose the car for your own convinience. Do not listen to those weirdows . Also, I think that TOYOTA is still better then HONDA. No offense, but I think it’s true :)

  61. sir, mas maganda ang vios compared to honda. very fuel efficient and low maintenace. GO VIOS GO!!!!! AAAHOOOO!!!!!!

  62. I got a vios 1.3 E last February. I drive it everyday from Antiplo to Makati. The car is very fuel efficient and comfortable to drive. I got it for practical reasons: cheaper to maintain and it looks way, way, way better than the city.

Btw, Trip Kita is wrong. The new vios has electronic power steering.

  63. sir, i drive a toyota vios 1.3 2006 model color blaze red… ako yung tipo ng tao na namumuna sa konting detail ng mga bagay… bumili ako ng vios around august 06′ then almost a year after my brother bought a honda city @ june 07′ ang masasabi ko lang,. nadrive ko na talaga sila pareho, ok na ok tlga sila na ndi mo mapapansin ung difference nila.. pero.. wla pang isang taon.. makalampag na ung honda city ng bro ko.. then it happened.. yung kuya ko na ang gumagamit ng vios ko.. until today :( , don’t mind them talking bout being a taxi driver… bmw and benz eh ginagawang taxi sa europe.. y is that? kasi MATIBAY sila.. and if you we’re a passenger.. what taxi would you prefer (if you don’t have a car or kapag coding at isa lang ang kotse mo) diba kadalasan satin “ung vios ang sakyan natin” based on my experience sa mall na may nakiusap pa samin na sa vios daw sila sasakay LOL … toyota is the automobile leader at our time.. the have pretty good reasons to stay at top.. believe me.. mas nahihiya akong mag drive ng city ndi kasi astig ung dating.. for my age cguro.. kung titingnan mo sa detail ung honda city maliit tlga sya.. compared sa vios… ang ndi ko lang gusto sa vios ung dashboard that looks boring.. pero sa honda city ,, guage lang din ung maganda eh.. wala nmng difference.. kung malaking tao ka.. mag mumuka kang ipit sa city compared sa vios.. and infact mas less ung gastos tlga sa vios kesa city.. mas malayo pa ung pinupuntahan ko sa kuya ko.. considering im not that professional at driving.. mas ok ang vios sa city.. at isang reason kung bakit ayaw ng honda na gawing taxi ung kotse nila.. kasi matetest mo dun ung quality ng toys nila.. which i wouldnt recommend.. eh kung exclusivity lang ang paguusapan.. then meaning ang “SSYANG YONG” eh conyo?.. ndi exclusivity un.. alam kasi nilang mkikita ng tao ung gawa nila na ndi kasing ganda ng toyota.. honda drivers doesn’t even know one bit how public cars are driven.. kahit araw araw mo pang gamitin ung kotse mo.. ndi pa din yn 24hrs. tumatakbo tulad ng toyota taxi or other taxi.. kaya sir if you value your money.. mag toyota vios ka nlng 25k price difference is way over worth it.. hope this helps :D

  64. Amen to that kenji

  65. Ask ko lang if ok lang ba na lagyan ng alarm system ang honda city? kabibili ko lang the other day.pls help me out… thanks

  67. ganda vios!

  68. so what car did you buy? the suspense is killing me!

  71. So Wauks, what have you decided to buy? Kung meron na, can you share us some of your thoughts on the car of your choice? I myself plans to buy a car and I preferred brand new because of fuel efficiency and low maintenance issues. With VIOS, as long as its dark colored and not the white one, hindi ka mapagkamalang taxi.On the other hand, with the CITY..well mas mahal nga daw maintenance.Anyway both cars are great! Hope to hear from you soon…Ingat lahat sa pag drive!!

  72. Potek 71 comments na pala tong post na to! heh I already picked the car and bought it around 2-3 months ago. Decided to go with the Honda City. I’ll have it car washed muna and take pictures then do a quick review. :)

For current models, i’ll go for Vios. Luma na yung current City e. Pero the new model City will be released next year so I suggest you wait.

  74. Vios compared to City:

    Low maintenance cost
    Durability tested
    Balance of Power and efficiency.
    Spacious interior

  75. ang ganda ng bagong vios sarap bihisan and super tipid sa gas, yung honda naman kokonti lang makikita mo, kasi di maganda ang design. vios for taxi? wow! eh di maganda bmw nga ginagawang taxi eh, takot ang honda city gawin taxi kasi sira-in, at mahal ang maintenance.

and about sa vios… its a pang masa car… its like a tamaraw fx… its a shame to drive one… well at least for me hehehehhe

    sakit mong magsalita brad…

vios coche ko…ibig mong sabihin nakakahiya ako???? ha????

    sumagot ka!!!!!

  77. makes no difference, i drive a new toyota vios 08 around luzon, in 2 months use ko naka 6k km na ako and so far parang bago pa rin ang drive niya, my reason for choosing the vios is the new design, the honda city will launch their new design NEXT YEAR, with rising gas prices dapat maging wise na tayo, di naman pagyayabang pero 25t ang budget ko for gas a month, pag di ko ma consume lahat akin na ang sobra, before i drive a 01 honda civic and a 97 mazda 323, binenta ko pareho just to get a vios, who cares about image, lahat ng kakilala kong mahilig pumorma kadalasan walang binatbat at butas ang bulsa, practicality is the name of the game nowadays, mag yabang ka pag may pera ka, porma nga auto mo pero walang pera pang gas o pang lunch. pero if nagkataon sabay nag launch ang new vios at new city, i might go for the city, for resale value lang but since ang habol ko ay practicality at economy, vios ang wise choice, a peso saved is a peso earned.

  79. im a honda civic fan but for that choice, ill go for vios..we have civic 04, civic 07, jazz 04 and vios07…yung jazz may mga kalampag agad after 1 year…yung vios wala pa in 1 year na mas grabe ang gamit…both are fuel efficient..jazz and city are almost the same pagkagawa…kung bibili ka na talaga…go for vios kasi new designs compared to city, lapit na yan palitan..so if you buy this year, ang city mo, luma na yan next year w/ the new design..pero kung vios, 2012 pa maluluma…and mas gwapo ang porma ng vios lalo na pag naayusan…no offense pero d ako nagagandahan sa porma ng city( pangit porma nya) thats the reason why jazz kinuha ko noon..gwapo ng jazz eh…sa resale, pareho lang pero mas madali ibenta ang toyota…kaya lang mababa ang resale ng toyota kasi sinagad ang gamit(like taxi) pero i bet, kung sagad din ang gamit ng honda, baka mas mababa pa resale nyan coz of price ng parts..

  80. so nakabili ka na pala sir.. have you seen the new city? it will be release late this year….wag ka sana ma offend sir pero sayang…after 3 years, mas mababa resale value nyan compared kung vios binili mo, kasi older model na itsura nya..unlike kung vios binili mo, same model pa rin…in fairness, ganda ng bagong city, gusto ko na palitan jazz ko pag meron ng new city( mukhang vios gen1 ang likod ng new city) hehehe

  81. Personally, i have drove both VIOS and CITY.

here’s the giff of both of it after driving both of it. if you have drvien cars for some time, the first feel you will definitly notice with a VIOS and the CITY is the comfort.

For my Opinion, the first time i drove both cars, i’m voting for VIOS. It’s way comfortable to drive the VIOS compared to City. The problem with the current situation is that.. the VIOS body is better compared to CITY. honda CITY is like a 2002 model, and just upgraded some asthetics, but compared to the new VIOS, it’s a completely different one.

Now here’s the real scenario that everyone will face. your financial capability. If you are more financially driven.. i suggest you get a VIOS. why? first of all, it’s cheaper than the CITY. next is for parts availability. law of price and demand, right? the greater the demand, the cheaper it gets.. BUT! for the people who don’t care much but wants to get an overall great performance.. i suggest you get the CITY. why is it better? first of all is the interior design. Fashionable old school design of the instrument panel has a better feel compared to VIOS. The 3 spoke design of the honda CITY is way better than the VIOS.

As i said.. for the people who are financially more stable who doesn’t care less.. Civic is the best choice for middle aged people like me! If you got the money to burn? why not even go for the honda accord? or even camry? it’s even a totally different level of experience.

to end it all… my choice is still honda CITY 1.5S cvt for overall performance (exterior, interior, engine, technology and reviews).

i’m rating CITY: 8.5, and VIOS: 8.2. not much of a difference though.. so.. either one is good. both with good fuel efficiency.. it’s a matter of branding and the looks really…

  82. First, both cars are really ugly. The Vios prior to this one was a looker, but now it’s closer to the looks of the City (which I find to be one of the ugliest vehicles out now.)

But since the Vios is a newer model, I’d pick that over the City. The City’s looks haven’t been changed in years. It’s an old, ugly design that is way past it’s time.

Second, most of the interior of the Vios looks better and newer. I don’t like the center console, the nipple controls for the air conditioner, and the small rear glass. I love the flat floor in the rear, though. The Honda’s interior look just as old as the exterior.

Third, Honda pulled out of the country and now just imports their cars. The effect is that the paint is very thin. Since the Vios is assembled here, the paint is much thicker. Also, it’ll be easier to find the right color if you need to paint parts of the car since they source the paint locally.

Fifth, since the Vios is assembled here, it provides more jobs for Filipinos. Helping out our country men while getting a good vehicle is a win-win situation for me.

Sixth, people have been telling me that City’s resale value isn’t high. The Civic commands a premium, but not the City. The reasons I hear include that the spare parts are expensive and tough to find and that it’s ugly.

Seven, the Vios still uses the same engine as it’s predecessor. You can find sport accessories such as cold air filters, etc. at a cheaper price due to the volume out in the market.

Eight, I’d rather be in an ugly Vios with a Vios taxi beside me than an uglier City.

Overall, I would pick the Vios over the City.

Good luck on your choosing a car. In the end, you’re still going to get a new vehicle so you really can’t lose with either one.

  83. jether, you should get a car bro, so you can get girls.

  87. I had two toyotas in the past, madali pyesa pero pinasakit din ulo ko dahil sa power steering issue nila…

    City for me…

  88. I love the honda city and i bought one, although gandang ganda ako sa porma ng vios pag nakikita ko naman na pantaxi lang, nakakahinayang!.Anyway, the vios is mass produced which means the quality control hindi matututukan ng husto ng mga QControl Engineers,sa dami ba naman ng production matutukan pa kaya? Wat do u think guys,do i have a point?

  91. Galeng naman, looking for city vs vios comparison and blog site pa ng former GM ko napuntahan ko. Musta SC (silver)? Probably no one remembers my hunter since 2004 pa ko quit. Anyway, hope everyones doing great whatever games you guys are playing now. :)

Anyway, on topic, napunta din kami sa city over vios, parang masyado malaki nguso ng vios para sa size nya. Kung same size siguro ng camry, bagay ganun nguso pero at its size right now, the vios looks like a turtle to me.

Ang panget naman sa city, wala na yung ULT seat and they still don’t give a discount even if next year na lalabas new model :( Anyway, I still think it’s better so we went for a bluish silver city :)
