This is a long overdue post. A few months ago, I wrote about a hard decision I was making and I asked the help of the readers of this blog. I was going to buy my first car (woo with my own money) and I was torn between the Toyota Vios and the Honda City. Surprisingly, that single post is one of the most read entries in this blog – and it looks like a lot of the people also have the same problem as I did. By the way, I also wrote a Car Financing Guide, so you might want to check that out as well if you’re thinking of buying a brand new car anytime soon. Anyway, I picked already and actually bought the car around 4 months ago and I’ve had no regrets. In the end, I decided to pick the Honda City over the Toyota VIOS.
Initially, I was all for the Toyota VIOS. However, my family has always been a fan of Honda. The first two cars that I ever drove while I was still in college were Honda’s. I can still remember how much fun I had with the black Honda SIR my parents let me drive back then, hehe. I did a lot of research and test drove both vehicles before making my decision and at the end of the day my personal preference for the Honda brand kicked in and I decided to go for the City despite a lot of suggestions to go with the Toyota Vios. The Honda City has given me no regrets ever since I bought it.
Maybe I’ll think about buying another car in 3 years – hopefully by then I’ll have enough money to think about a Honda Accord versus Toyota Camry decision… LOL.

Mura ang parts? Oo yung taiwan, pero mabilis din masira, in the end paulit ulit ka lang magpapalit, to sum up mahal din magagastos mo. I have an excel spreadsheet to prove you guys….

Enjoyed reading the great debate. Pag dating sa vios and city, mahabang sapan talaga yan.
I am also buying a car. I wanted the vios initially but after studying the specs and everything else, I think I will go with the city. Iba rin kasi pag Honda.
Butnow I am faced with another problem…. I dont know if I should wait for the 2009 or just get the 2008. Haha!

I have the same dilemma if I should get a VIOS or a CITY. I am working on a PHP 560 budget since car will be financed by my company. I went car hunting 2 weeks ago and so far leaning to getting the VIOS. I find the CITY’s design ugly. I am not solved on how it looks lalo na yung rear plus yung gilid ng front door near the side mirrors not as polished as it should be…may puwang. My dad also suggested I get the VIOS since he knows a lot about engines and cars. Fuel efficient, cheaper maintenance plus part are easier to find. I really got a good deal with VIOS…try getting from Toyota Commonwealth they gave me a huge discount (40K that includes personal and fleet discount) plus free alarm and central lock apart from the usual freebies car dealers give. Wauks your Honda looks good though…made me think twice for a while. hahaha.Hopefully I made the right decision of getting a VIOS.

between the current city and the new vios, i would go for the latter. if you could wait until early next year, the new city will be introduced which is much better than vios — google for the pics — it’s now being sold in thailand. for my second set of wheels, i would go for the new 1.5 jazz.

I’m choosing between Honda Civic and Toyota Altis which one is the best to buy? Also, my parents are contemplating on buying a second hand car — would a toyota second hand be better than a Honda — ‘97 Honda Accord, ‘97 Camry, Honda Vtec and Toyota GLI ‘98? They’re looking at the 1996 – 1997 models. What are the pros and cons of each one? Thank you so much sa advice!
