I’ve always been monitoring the NBN-ZTE-Lozada issue since it began and I’ve actually been blogging about it in my Philippine Politics Blog. I avoid talking about politics here at Waukster since this blog is primarily about the online gaming pop culture and politics is too sensitive to discuss. However, I’ll make an exception today and re-post an article I recently did on Bloggerista.

    GMA SHOULD NOT RESIGN
The CBCP released their statement yesterday calling for the government to lead the battle against the corruption and for the country to continue it’s search for the truth. They did not ask for GMA to resign, and I agree with the CBCP on this particular issue. Let’s take a step back and analyze where we are now because in reality asking GMA to resign is simply the easy way out. It’s lazy for the opposition and the civil service groups to keep on clamoring for the president to resign. We have the impeachment process and that’s where we should focus on. We have to make the system work for us and not the other way around.

    A Numbers Game
Yes – the administration will not allow an impeachment complaint to move forward once it reaches the House of Representatives. Why? Because if something like that hits the Senate, it’s almost safe to say that GMA will get impeached. The problem is that we simply don’t have the numbers in the lower house. That’s actually our fault since we elected congressmen who are easily paid off by Pork Barrel allocations. The question now is – what should we do? The answer? People Power.

    New People Power
I’m not saying that people march to EDSA and stage a rally until GMA resigns. That will NOT WORK. GMA is a master of politics and I’m pretty sure that they can come up with a multitude of PR campaigns to make sure that the Filipino people’s fervor for change will eventually die down. They will continue to malign and destroy the reputation of all the witnesses that come out to attack them. That’s the nature of Philippine politics – one big PR battle.

If you want GMA out and you want change then don’t go to EDSA. Go to your local municipalities and keep on shouting until your local officials hear you. Hell, you might even want to stage rallies in the houses of your congressmen, mayors, and governors. Hold them accountable to their DUTY TO REPRESENT YOU. Make the process work for you and don’t just wish that GMA will just give up. Remember that they are YOUR VOICE and if you don’t let them know how you feel then there’s no way they will speak for you when the times come to make that crucial vote.

Make the process work for you. Besides, it will taste much sweeter if she gets impeached rather than her resigning, hehe.

    Source: Only In the Philippines

I’d like to take this chance to ask the gaming community your thoughts on this issue. What do you think about all the allegations Lozada has made against the government? What do you think about the CBCP’s refusal to call on GMA’s resignation? What about the government’s alleged cover-up?

Lastly, bawal ang OT dito mga tsong. Let’s keep this strictly politics.

      @Wauks just read this..
There are only two presidents that can be really considered presidents for me.

      1. Ramon Magsaysay – he opened Malacanang to the poor and help everyone. He is humble and never had a trace of any corruption. Pity he died a tragic death.

      2. Ferdinand Marcos – he make Philippines revolutiionize and become a 3rd world country. During his era, the change rate of dollar to peso is 1 dollar = 2php. He created a lot of facilities and give work to a lot of people. Though the downside is, due to the insolence of his wife Imelda Marcos corruption have started and he covers everything up and keeps on prolonging his term (Which Gloria is scheduled to do so in 2010), thats why the death of the brave person like Ninoy Aquino have started Edsa Revolution and changed the Philippine and the whole world. But for some reason I love the why he do things though I’m not around that time still not existing. He’s the smartest and talented person ever led the Philippines sadly greed become his downfall.

Other presidents don’t deserve any credit at all.
Gloria Arroyo didn’t changed the Philippines at all when she her term 2001 up to now 2008. Well truth should be unveiled like others have said before they make a move. But, if she don’t step down right now, her lie of not going for another candidancy just to increase her term as president of the Philippines for 2010-2016 or her current options of establishing a new consitution so she still has power when it get implemented good thing others are keeping it a bay.

Regarding Lozada’s testiomonies and the politics behind it. We all know that many politicians that desire power just using him and he knows it for that purpose. I want Gloria to step down and at the same time somebody responsible and not corrupt should become president and everyone participating in the Resign Gloria movement shouldn’t be elected or have positions on this new government if ever they succeed.
If only Cardinal Sin was still alive and around, this would have escalated to a People Power.

      Here are some facts.
      1. Yes, many did get a job but there are more jobless than people would have work.
      2. The 6month contract policy prevents employees and workers to have beneficiaries when they grow old and try to retire (This is famous in Call Centers and Fast Foods as well in other business sectors).
      3. Only the AFP have a huge boost of salary as the year have passed. Even PMA was given a lot of budget by the goverment. And frequent check of loyalty. Why the government invest so much in the military not just spend it to important sectors that really needs those budget. They just making the terrorist attacks and the renegade groups as scape goats just to continue increasing the funds for the Military year by year.
      4. Government employees salary didn’t increased that much so there would be some corruption there as well.
      5. The salary is fixed thus not increasing, if it ever increased but not that much. Considering the expenses and other taxes. It is still not enough. Prices of food and other expenses such as clothing, electricity, gas are increasing rapidly. If salary increased by 0.1% per year, while necessities increased by 5% every year.
      6. Irreposible people been appointed to such positions by the President. I know a lot of people that were appointed to certain seats in the government really don’t deserve it at all.
First of all, their knowledge and experience from the past doesn’t have to do with their work making them insufficient.
2nd, corruption and laziness take place and it takes a lot of time to take action on certain things.
Last, Who are the losers in this situation the employees that were under this kind of officials. They do all the work that their superior don’t have knowledge about.
      7. Recent drop of Dollar that cause OFW’s a lot of trouble making them take other jobs and started minimizing what they spent in their working area.
      8. Tuition Fee is increasing yearly this had a big impact to the parents and working students. If only there is a certain program to help them out. The Arroyo government fails at this part.
      9. Only the Pampanga Area have a big support from the Arroyo government. She is really smart and taking things easy since she knows they can’t do anything at all and taking precautions by visiting provinces and sharing them the story how the Filipinos gain 7% success which is not really that true at all.
10, Whenever this kind of problem arises she start creating countermeasures such as using G2 incident or other plans that have capability to coverup the ZTE Controversy in the newspaper, radio, internet and in the TV.
      11. Start attacking her critics secretly by opening up their weakneses and using it against them.
      12. She is right about the reason why some people still poor since they don’t follow Family Planning resulting to a lot of children that they can no longer have enough salary to cover for them. Other people are relying on the money and goods given by the government that much which is not right. They have to work for it and learn to work and get a job. Laziness strike a lot of others particularly from the ____ areas and wants easy money resulting to kidnapping, carnapping, snatching, counterfeating, selling drugs, become assassin of some politicians for power, gambling, scamming, pyramiding, culting, selling fake goods, selling not that 100% materials that may cause problems to the buyer that unaware off, hacking, blackmailing, suing innocent people for money, selling internal organs obtained from children and other victims they kidnap and other more crimes and that’s easy money.

Philippines need a disciplined and strict president that would uphold the law and she is not that person.
Bayani Fernando is suited for the Presidency in 2010 though I hate his heartless law sometimes but it is for the better. The New Marcos of our era.
Jejomar Binay is also a good candidate, look how he changed Makati over the years and that is a good indication. Though the ghost employee issue seems true and he benefited from it but in some cases I don’t believe that cause he is a approachable person more likely could be compared to Ramon Magsaysay just a bit though.
There are no more better candidates than these two people and they just start doing the same thing Gloria, Erap, Ramos, Cory, Marcos(though like I said it’s his wife fault and the henchemens) did. These people like Lozada and some others(Lacson and company) doesn’t deserve any place in the goverment too.

This kind of events also occuring ingame as well no need to talk about anyway.

    • Moonstalk on February 29, 2008

Marcos made a lot of propaganda and all those were realized. I don’t know about his wife’s corruption, but if that’s the reason for his downfall, then I feel sorry for him (lol). And I kinda agree on GMA not resigning. But that doesn’t mean I’m confident with the current Administration. The current Administration has a lot of slip-ups and anomalies, and they’re doing little progress on what they should be concentrating more – improving the lives of the people in this country. /swt

I’m not saying na iaasa ko nalang lahat yan sa gobyerno, pero I’m not seeing the government doing its part to help the poverty sector.

Grabe, your insights are really great guys. To think people stereotype gamers as people who have no idea what is happening in the country. :heh: Thanks for participating in the discussion. I’ll read through all of the comments and try to reply to some of them during the weekend. Again, thanks for sharing your thoughts on the topic!

      let me rephrase that one..

“Philippine Online Game Community is the exact symbol of its people”

      Eh pano si GMA?

    • Henie on February 29, 2008

Corruption among Filipino politicians is as inevitable as bots in pRO. Kahit ano pang mangyari… isang dosenang people power or sangkatutak na anti-bot measures… at the end of the day, andyan pa rin sila! :o mg:

And what’s up with our choice of leaders? We always complain about corruption in our government but we re-elect the same incumbent officials over and over again. Ano ba talaga? Kuntento ba talaga tayo sa pamahalaan natin? Eh bakit yung mayor/governor/congressman natin nakatatlong beses na sunod-sunod nanalo ng halalan?

Different scenario, same baffling mystery ==> Everytime nasisira ang server natin, pumupunta tayo sa kabilang server at nagpupub ng “fuk u GMs ayusin nyo baldur” or “amp kau GM, ayusin nyo trabaho nyo nagbbayad kami ,,l,,”. But when we actually see a GM ingame or meet one in real life, we’re very kind to them and some even say “GM penge items pls”. A mystery indeed! :hmm:

“I am as human as anybody else. But people go for leaders who are God-fearing, pro-poor, and who are not afraid to make tough choices; those who are hardworking and who are loyal to the people of the nation. And so, these are the values I also live by and expect to be judged on when I meet our Maker” – PGMA

      Please don’t resign…

    • Fallen Lothario on February 29, 2008

GMA should stay. Just basing on the feedbacks here, its quite obvious that she still has lots of supporters.
Its just that the people who still believe in the current administrations legitimacy isn’t as noisy as the people who call for her resignation.

Our democracy still hasn’t matured up to now, the people are still very much in doubt about our political institutions. We were able to bring the power back to the people after toppling a dictator some 20 years back. And we created a political institution that would vanquish any attempt by any individual to bring our country back to the nightmarish days of the dictatorship era. Lets show the world that our political institutions that we created does work, we need to exercise it further so we can come into full maturity as a Nation.
Its very much true that People Power or any unconstitutional means to depose a president has ceased to be the inspiring movement that it was. As an example, just a few years ago world leaders of almost every developed nations condemned what happened to Thailand, despite it being a bloodless coup.

And i do welcome an impeachment proceeding against our President, but at the moment i’m still giving her the benefit of the doubt. Cause it is by law that all accused are presumed innocent until proven guilty. But if ever the impeachment attempt succeeds and she is found to be guilty, then she will have to pay for it. But at the same time it can also serve as an opportunity for redemption against all her critics.

    • Zechs on March 2, 2008

no matter who we elect there at the president seat he or she will always be corrupt. masmalaki pa ang kinikita ng isang pba player sa presidente pero masmataas ang lifestyle ng presidente dahil sa mga sideline nito and to those who say na tignan natin ang economy lumalakas ang peso againts dollar dahil sa kanya… right.. better check the present background of the US economy. the US is in debt for protecting their economy thats why their economy is on a downfall. hindi dahil malakas ang pera natin. kung lumalakas ang currency ng isang bansa mararamdaman ng mga tao yan dahil masmarami ang mabibili natin pero hinde sa 100 pesos limang coke lang mabibili natin.

someone should really lift that EO which prevents congress and other officials from attending the senate . bakit mo kaya ipreprevent na mainvestigate ang isang tao kung wala naman sala? specially that bank transparency thing natatakot ata sila malaman ng ibang tao na may biglang 1m+ na deposit for no reason at all.

Justice for the victims of political killings!

(Ah basta. Ayoko kay Arroyo. Oh, and everyone’s entitled to their own opinions.)

    • A I K on March 5, 2008

If GMA has any decency left in her, she should resign. However, seeing that she would do everything in her power (regardless of the moral principles it violates), the Filipino people has no choice left but to let their sentiments be known and ultimately ask for her to step down.

Everyone, just look around you and you will see the truth. Poverty and hunger still plagues most Filipino families. The media is being suppressed and even ARRESTED. The police and military force who are supposed to protect the people are also the ones inflicting them harm. In all honesty, sa Pilipinas lang nangyayari ang mga ganitong halimbawa ng pambabastos sa karapatang pantao. And what about the missing student activists?

The fact is, GMA has had more than her share of years as president and yet there is still no visible signs that the Philippines is doing better. Some people would say that the increasing value of the peso would be a manifestation that she is doing a good job.

Our water and electricity bills also have tax. Now just imagine pag pinag sama sama mo ang lahat ng tax na ikinakaltas sa atin. Multiply that by the Filipino population and that’s more than enough to pull the Philippines out of poverty.

Deep down alam natin na may ginawa silang pag maniobra upang sila ay magwagi. Hello Garci, anyone?

The Filipinos should not take the issues of corruption just sitting down. We have the absolute right to show our disgust if we do not feel that the current government being HEADED and DICTATED to by GMA is not doing what its supposed to do for the Filipino people.

In the USA, when the president is faced with controversies and scandals, he humbly steps down. Sadly, with GMA, that is not the case. If you can remember, Ferdinand Marcos left the Palace in the light of the People Power Revolution. Like wise, President Estrada also subsequently volunteered to leave his office when PP 2 took place. But now, GMA is insisting in finishing her full term, even using the constitution as her shield and her multitudes of paperbag toting lawmakers ang public servants as her sword.

Wait for 2010? Then that also means letting GMA get away for everything she has done to the country. Let us all send a clear message to her that we are no longer asleep. Rather, we are slowly opening our eyes to the truth. And hopefully by knowing the truth, we make a just and rightful action not just for our own benefit but for the betterment of the the greater Filipino people.

      Bangon Pinoy!!

Do you have a legit proof that gloria is indeed corrupt i mean am not sold on GMA but she is doing one heck of a job just imagine the turn around of the $ rate. from almost 60’s level down to the 40’s. So certainly its not the president that is corrupt i dont think this would be the outcome.

Lozada on the other hand is just sour because he didnt get his “share” for crying out loud he only got 50k hahahahaha …

I really hate our politics instead of focusing to make the country better we are making it worst by the actions that we’re doing.

If she steps down then what will happen?

      Noli de Castro — nevermind
snap election — who will run ? the government will release budget again for this snap election for sure there will be corruption again. instead of using that money for snap election why not help those who were affected by the disaster not one politician commented that how sorry they are that some people doesnt even have water to drink. wat the get a life..

i wouldn’t exactly complain if gma steps down. let’s just say i’m not exactly a happy cutomer andshe’s been there for some time now. although i have to admit nakakasawa na people power. if every presidency coming up in the future concerns a people power, ano na mangyayari sa atin. you guys notice the trend? nakailan na tayo? pangilang gulo na to na may naglalakad nanaman na naknakan ng dami ng tao sa gitna ng ayala? if you think about it, most people who are arranging those rallies are going after the youth. the oh so innocent youth who’s patriotism is at it’s peaks and is easily bended. no offense, but to mainly college students and even below who attended edsa 2. did you really know what you were fighting for? or were you jsut there for the hype and friends? not opening that envelop[e had it’s legal grounds you know. not that i liked the president at that time but it did have it’s grounds. anyway enough of that. my only concern right now if gma steps down is sinong papalit. let’s see. of course si noli, vs pres would senate pres right? question of the month? kaninong bata tong 2 to? si noli alam ko neutral yan that mainly the reason why i want him up there. si senate pres? neutral din ba or may nanliligaw na? also in question would be the next senate pres. i want fresh people up there. not exactly new but let’s just i don’t want the current sides to still hold and wave some power up there next time. simple as that. and about that peso going up against the dollar thing. remember. recession sa us. bagsak talaga dollar. improving economy does not having anything to do with it because it’s not the reason in the first place. swerte lang si gloria sa situation na to.

The way for evil to succed is for good men to do nothing. You really expect GMA to lead the fight against corruption, bull…. How will she do that when it’s her family that is involve in corruption itself.
