Globe 3G iPhone to Cost 20,000 PHP?
Here’s another cross-post from Carlo Ople dot Com. I forgot that I should be writing on Gadgets & Technology more often here than the other blog, hehe. A few days ago, Apple CEO Steve Jobs released an announcement that really floored the entire world. He was releasing a new version of the iPhone at half the cost - $199 USD, roughly 10,000 Philippine Pesos. In a matter of hours, the online space was abuzz with speculation on how much it would actually cost when it reaches the Philippine shores. Abe Olandres, one of my favorite tech bloggers, revealed in a post that he got word from Globe that the 3G iPhone would not cost 10,000 PHP, but around 20,000 PHP. Here are the 3G iPhone Globe Plans that were leaked from the inside:

PrePaid Plans have not been finalized yet (due to Forex rates) but it will be in the range of Php20,000 to Php25,000.
I’m wondering how the unlocked version of the 3G iPhone would cost in the black market? I’m sure that in a matter of weeks, we will know. It’s only a matter of time before the new age pirates of today get their hands on the latest piece of hot gadgetry that will sell like hotcakes in Greenhills.

I remember reading before that the guy who first unlocked an iPhone in the US through its hardware got a car in exchange for his phone.
Now you can unlock it just by running an app whle in sync with iTunes.
I say patience is a virtue. In all likelihood may pagkakapareho pa rin sila ng lumang iPhone, so it won’t take long to unlock it unlike before.

Actually, it’s easy to unlock an iPhone. We have Apple Care CSRs here in the Philippines. If you know IBM Daksh in EDSA Central, Mandaluyong, you’ll meet lots of CSRs working in Apple there. You can get the sim unlocker code from them by just giving them the unique serial number of the iPhone which you can find on either the box of the iPhone or by typing the code on the unit itself to display the serial number of the phone.
They will basically, type the serial number you gave them, and then they will give you the unlock sim code, finally VOILA! you’re iPhone is already unlocked ^_^V

There’s going to to be to teo ways to buy the 3G iPhone, thats via the grey market or through your local telco company. Apple will no longer be selling these online and iPhone purchases must be bought with a contract there and then in the store, with the exception of PAYG/Prepaid models. There will be no chance of getting a cheap grey import, not when Apple and the telcos are charging a lot for PAYG/Prepaid and also long tie-ins on the contracts/Postpaid models for 18-24 months.

Kung aabutin 20thou. d2 yang 3G iPhone papabili nalang ako sa ibang bansa then pa unlock ko nalang d2 dba. Pwede ba un at kung pede sana madali i unlock.

what if after a month or two ng subscription sa globe eh pinaputol mu na yung plan, how much will it cost you to get the phone? or pwede bang over-the-counter nalang bumili ng unlocked iphone 3G?

Guys, 20k is not a bad price. If you but an iphone from the states, yes you’d be spending $199 but you’d still have a lock-in period with AT&T. Think about it. Google this “iphone 3g real cost”.

meron n po bng iPhone 3G d2 sa pinas? san po nkkbli?

Well honestly iphone 3g’s sell at apple stores in the states for the msrp which is $199 for the 8gb so i don’t know why it should cost that much here. besides the fact that steve jobs himself stated that price of the iphone would not go above the MSRP.
I don’t get why they’d mark up so high.
we’ll just have to wait and see if that is the final launch price. Might as well have your relatives from the states buy a an open network iphone 3g from an apple store. it still wouldn’t cost you 20k to ship it to the philippines. say $100 fedex + $199 for the iphone it’s only $299 convert that to philippine peso in proper exchange which is 45 totals to 13,495 pesos. and since apple has official stores here i don’t see why they can’t sell it for the same msrp.
but if it does boil down to it costing that much i’d have one shipped instead of letting globe and other shops rob me.

isn’t that too much.. shocks!! i want to have one but if that will cost 20,000.. forget about it..

Kaya $199 ung iPhone sa states kasi under sa AT&T plan un! You still have to pay $100 per month for the service, kaya ganun ka mura dahil sa partnership ng Apple and AT&T, subsidized ng AT&T ung price ng iPhone.
So, reasonable ung 20k to 25k na price ng Globe para sa prepaid.
Actually, mas mura pa nga sa Globe sa G-Max plan na initial fee is Php 9,995, approx $222, monthly fee is Php3500 lang as compared sa states na $100

When you buy an iPhone sa states, UNDER CONTRACT un.. kaya kung plan nyo na bumili sa states at ipa unlock un, ung bibili kailangan pa rin magbayad ng monthly fee as stated sa Plan.
FROM APPLE.COM ETO ANG REQUIREMENTS TO BUY AN IPHONE
To purchase and activate iPhone 3G, you need the following:*
Credit card
Social security number
Valid government-issued photo ID
Current wireless account number and password or PIN (if you’re new to AT&T)

yup, but for someone like me who has friend at US, na may plan sa at&t, they can freely buy the phone itself (iphone 3g) without subscribing to a plan, kasi may existing plans sila, so they are free to get another phone by just the phone itself..
September 13th, 2008 at 10:07 am
contact someone you know at US na may plan ng at&t then pay them $299 for the phone then pay them the shipment fee.

Are you sure about this? No shop worldwide will let you walk out with an iPhone in your hand without subscribing to a plan. No shop is going to supplement the full cost of the iPhone if they just gave them out without a plan. Apple charge so much for the iPhone and the service provider makes a profit from them as long as they tie a customer into a plan. The only way you’ll walk out of a shop with an iPhone without a plan is if you buy a prepaid model, paying the full (and true)cost of an iPhone.
