Gaming: Waukster Ragnarok Survey

I was meeting with the New Media department of Level-up and we were talking about the demographics of the players for each of the games. For the longest time the assumption was that the RO gamers where young - somewhere around 12 - 16. As the years went by, LU invested in market research and they found out that the gamers were getting a little bit older. Majority of the gamers moved up to 14-18. Fast forward to 2007. As you guys know, we’ve been doing the Ragna Rally and I noticed that I rarely see kids anymore. Most of the people I talk to are mostly 18 years old and up. Based from our meeting earlier, it looks like we will be doing market research again. For starters, I’d like to ask all my readers here at Waukster Online. Please answer these three simple questions by leaving a comment. It won’t take more than 5 minutes of your time!

Before I end this post, I just want to give you guys a quick update on Baldur. We’re currently having connection issues but the IT Team is already working on it. It should be up now but if you have difficulty logging in, please just wait it out.

    WoE and PvP. and Ragnarok is a User Friendly game. Pc Friendly low Specs lang need. and last the community. dami ko nakilala na naging friend ko in Real Life.

    2. I first played RO during its beta days where everyone is knew to the game and thought of the stats and skills as the same as Diablo II, where I ended with my novice as having 20+ stat to all.
    I transfered to Sarah when it first launch as a new beginning cause there were too many rich players in game already in chaos.
    3. WOE and the interaction with other people, especially in 2004 where botting is not that rampant and you can see a party of novices making parties and leveling their way in payon, acolytes, mages, and archers are gathered in morroc dungeon and killing the mummy in lvl 3. I miss those days were you can see friendly priests giving buffs and healing other players.
    Watching guilds taking on Stormy Knight in lutie where Knights take all the damage while wizzies and hunters spam their skills, MVP hunting was more of a party strategy and watching them (i was a low level swordsman then) was great.

    2. at first, my barkada were the only ones playing pRO (except me)among the students in our school. they got addicted to it - to the point that they didn’t join me anymore in playing LAN games @_@ soon, i got addicted to it too because of peer influence :p

    there were these guys at malls giving out CD’s with a jelly to random people. When i installed it i enjoyed bashing rockers and the *Server is Filled to Capacity* msg. eventually i got hooked.

    Three years ago, I have a friend who used to play RO and talk to me about it all the time. I could not relate much to her RO lingo (Uhm what’s phen card and why the hell are you willing to buy one for P1000? O_o Hehehe!) So I tried playing it at a nearby cafe so that I could relate to her hobby and I instantly got hooked (first played RO for more than 12 hours straight)!

    3.) What’s the best feature of Ragnarok Online that made you stay?

    I quitted RO last Oct and came back last April partly because I heard there was going to be a server merge (more ACTUAL online players yey!). I noticed I was spending more time at Prontera buying & selling, watching the vend items, familiarizing with the prices, tawad dito, vend dun, etc. I then realize that being a Prontera merchant is what I like most about RO. =)

    Ung ka kaklase ko sa sti college na nagsesearch sa google ng mga monsters sa ragnarok ….tapos tinanong ko kung anung laro un dun nag-umpisa biglang lahat na nang kaklase ko pati seniors ng batch namin naglalaro kina TerE (comp shop sa tapat ng STI)
    hanggang sa nagkakagulo sa shop kung cno next kasi makakatulog ka dahil ayaw na umalis sa PC hanggang mag tym na naman sa next subject (>_,S>,N>,Q>) ganun ba hahahahha….

    RPC 2005 Luzon Finals at the Olongapo City Convention Center, I was asked to host the event and knew little about Ragnarok way back then. I was deeply fascinated by the fight scenes, especially whenever a Monk fires an EF and the black korean characters whisk across the wide screen - the crowd just went nuts! Fast forward 2006, found myself shouting at the top of my voice “Basura Strike” “Dapa” “Asa” “Timbuwang” “Bulagta”!! What can I say, Im deeply hooked! /heh

    3.) What’s the best feature of Ragnarok Online that made you stay?
    CHALLENGES - WoE, PvP, Quests.. Never grows old, since new patches present new challenges. Its kind of a solace for me, at least one of em. Great way to retreat from all the hassle & bustle & fuss & frills & mumbo jumbos of the real world!

Lots of college students were playing it back then (and were often getting banned off the college Novell network for it). After that I forgot about it for years, until a year ago someone asked me to take another look. A lot has changed since the beta days.
    3. Well, I love planning characters for games almost more than I love the games themselves. I’m a bit of a math geek I guess, but I take pleasure in finding optimal values and such. Calculating card effects. How many mufflers I need to create one that’s +10. Hehehe.. I guess I’m kind of weird.

    - Ragnarok is one of the few Online games that successfully fused 2D sprites in a 3D environment. RO has also a huge world map, enabling people to go to different places. RO is also relatively cheaper to maintain (lower PC requirements), while allowing you to have the same amount of challenge and fun, compared with other MMOGs. In my opinion, Ragnarok also has a complex system - having different jobs, mini-games, quests, game mechanics, etc… etc…

    When i was in my previous college, when i was in 2nd year, LU had a booth during the freshmen orientation before the schoolyear started. They distributed the very first CD installers and since i was a ‘kuya’ of a freshmen bloc (temporary adviser), i was given the task of distributing some of the CDs. I got myself one of course, but it took me a long time to adapt to the pay-to-play system (because that time what was popular was free-to-play ones like C&C Red Alert 2 and Counterstrike).

    3.) What’s the best feature of Ragnarok Online that made you stay?
    It was simply being the first in the MMOG industry. As Filipinos who love computer gaming very much, we like to see and try new kinds of games. RO introduced to us playing games with lots and lots (literally thousands) of people at the same time through the internet, as well as interacting with and creating friends through the game. And although it also introduced the pay-to-play system, most of us were able to adapt to it and still continue playing. Lastly, RO didn’t require hi-end specs to be able to play it. It’s not easy to buy a computer since the better it is, the more expensive it is. But RO can be played somewhere between low-end to mid-end computers that don’t cost too much.
