First and foremost, happy Independence Day! I wasn’t able to post anything yesterday because I was spending much needed quality time with my girlfriend. I literally spent my entire monday at her place and we watched several episodes of CSI: Las Vegas and she even cooked for dinner. Definitely a good way to recharge and get ready for this week. I heard that school is going to start today so to all you students out there, good luck and don’t forget your studies. Remember, balance is everything. Anyway, on to more Ragnarok stuff! This morning I’d like to tackle the Ragnarok Philippine Championships Regional Tournament. This is also a hot topic lately so I might as well talk about it.
We still don’t have the official mechanics because we’re still banging our heads in trying to come up with the most action-packed and fair set for this year. Unlike the previous years of pRO, we now have Soul Linkers, Taekwons, Star Gladiators, Ninjas, and Gunslingers! While some of you may laugh at these expanded jobs, it’s maybe because you haven’t realized yet how powerful and how useful they can be in a team game. The Soul Linker’s buffs alone can be game breaking! The Ninja’s Killing Stroke is like another Extremity Fist that can easily take out an enemy. Sadly, I still have no idea yet on how to use the Gunslinger. Maybe if you give him a Gatling Gun and max his Dex and Agi, he can crit lock the enemy Champion from afar (hehe). If you take a look at the RWC mechanics, Gravity didn’t bother thinking of this issue because they just decided to go with the Transcendents. I personally don’t want to take that route.
All I can share with you guys is that it will probably be 9 on 9, and that there will only be 4 areas where we will be having the Regional Tournaments. Right now we’re seriously looking into the following: Metro Manila (NCR), South Luzon (TBD), Bacolod (Visayas), and Davao City (Mindanao). It won’t be as big as the regional tournament in 2004 because believe me when I say that the 2004 regionals is simply too expensive to do this year. If we did that then the prize money for RPC 2007 would probably be less than 100,000.
On how to qualify, we might end up doing a raffle wherein potential teams can submit their line-ups sponsored by their favorite Internet Cafe. It’s up to you and the cafe owner if you will be bearing the internet cafe name or your own team/guild name. Obviously you will be using pre-generated characters so there’s really no need to recreate characters for this one. The only problem is that you’re not guaranteed a slot because of the raffle.
That’s it for this morning. I’ll be posting some Ragnarok 2 stuff later, as well as some much needed updates on several RO issues which includes the dupe and the recent disconnection problem. We’ve been so caught up in RWC lately but since the bulk of the RWC stuff is past us, we can now focus 100% on the said topics. Have a great Tuesday guys!

I have a strong feeling that RO2 will appeal to a different crowd. RO2 is much more community-centric than PVP, which is the main driver right now for RO1. There will still be RPC 2008.

We’re moving the venue around para everyone can get a good chance. If you think you really have good chances in winning, it’s just a boat ride I think, hehe. The Davao venue isn’t 100% yet by the way. We’re also looking at CDO and General Santos. :heh:

The tool to determine who the dupers are is still being developed. I can’t put an exact time on this one because Gravity has a tendency of backing out of agreements. I’d rather announce this only if it’s actually implemented and tested already. We have a script that can automatically delete all the duplicated items, and we’re going to start phasing out selected high value dupes during weekly maintenance. More on that later. Still have to confirm with the GMs and the IT peeps. Give me until the day to finalize things.

We did have an entry last RPC Regionals in Cebu last 2004, but this time we were hoping that it will be cafe based like what you said.
I think it would much less expensive if this will be the way. And besides, going to Bacolod during class days, already, would be more hassle in our part as students. I wish cafe based would be the plan.

I can think of many reasons why Bacolod is the right venue for the Visayas Regionals. Una, Iloilo is just a hour of boat ride away. Malaki rin naman ang population ng players sa Iloilo and other neighboring provinces in the Panay Island. Next, mas malapit ang Dumaguete and other cities to Bacolod than Cebu City itself, plus, di gaano kagastos for the Dumaguete players (and other Negros Oriental players) to go to Bacolod City than to Cebu City.
Now here’s the hard part, Cebu players can reach Negros Occidental by boat but then they’d have to ride a bus from either San Carlos City (in Neg. Occ.) or take the Neg. Or. route to then to Bacolod. Or they can just also ride a plane (which is rather costly). :hmm:

I can think of several reasons why it would be good to have Bacolod this time as venue for the Visayas Regionals. One of course would be that Iloilo is closer to Bacolod (which would give a fair chance to Iloilo players and other players from the Panay Island). If you’re from Panay, it’s just a one-hour boat ride from Iloilo to Bacolod City. Next would be that that Dumaguete is closer to Bacolod than Cebu City itself, and players there need not spend much on transportation fees alone; it’s a six-hour bus ride from Dumaguete to Bacolod.
The only problem would be the Cebu players, they’d have to board a boat and ride a bus to Bacolod; or they could ride a plane, which is too costly.
My only suggestion would be if it would be indeed in Bacolod, you gusy seriously need not use netAxs again as the venue. It’s a roadside internet café, and people were jampacked during the last RagnaRally that it caused traffic problems. You could consider the various IT parks there or maybe you could contact one of the local malls to host the event, at least it will bring good exposure to the tournament.
