Gaming: Ragnarok Update 4/11/07

It’s wednesday - which means it’s maintenance day for Ragnarok Online… which in turn means I get to post the advanced pRO Update here on my blog (LOL). I’ll try to make this a regular thing so that you guys can get a sneak peek of what’s to come after the usual downtime. So what will happen today? I’m sure all of you are wondering if there’s an EXP modifier or maybe a new item in the HyperMart? Will there be a new NPC in-game event or will we finally announce the next siege event? Read on to find out. Yes, I love cliff hangers. Nyahaha!

HyperMart Update: Evolved Angel and Satanic Wings
Remember when I guys showed you the Ragnarok HyperMart Sneak Peek? Right after maintenance, players will be able to buy Evolved Satanic and Angel Wings at an introductory price of 3000 Rok Points (150 PHP). They won’t be tradable so buy ‘em if you’re a collector or if you really need them. Here are the stats of both items:

Evolved Angelic Chain (Angel Wing)
+1 Dex, +1 Int, and 3% Damage Reduction from Demon Type Monsters

Evolved Satanic Chain (Evil Wing)
+1 Str, +1 Agi, and 3% Damage Reduction from Demon Type Monsters

HyperMart Update: 30% Sale on Alice Doll and Crescent Helm
For one week, gamers will be able to buy the Alice Doll and Crescent Helmet headgears for only 7000 Rok Points instead of the usual 10,000. That’s a 150 PHP discount. For more information on how to get Rok Points, just head on over to the Ragnarok HyperMart Website.

Thor Midgard Police Program Announcement
We will also be announcing the draft mechanics of the Midgard Police program for Thor. In a nutshell, we will be deputizing selected Thor players to catch bots and to enforce the rules and regulations of the game. If the project is successful, we will launch it on the other commercial servers as well. I’ll be posting the draft mechanics here on my blog and as usual I’ll be asking you guys to give your comments and suggestions on how we can make it better. We will also announce if the Thor Free-to-Play week will push through. There have been several complaints that a lot of players will not benefit from it because of the on-going Ragna Summer promotion.

Server Merge Official Announcement
We will finally announce the Server Merge, officially. This will once and for all settle all the rumors and talks going around that this is just a bluff by Level-up Games. If things go well, we can even post the initial mechanics and FAQ for everyone to view. If the Web Development Team finishes the microsite, then we will put it up as well. I’m really praying that this one pushes through on April 25. We also might post the mechanics of the next siege event!

Lastly, it is my sad job to inform everyone that there will be no EXP modifiers tomorrow, which kinda sucks. I’m trying to push for EXP modifiers before or after the Server Merge so stay tuned for more announcements on that one. As soon as something gets approved, it will be posted here for everyone to see.     The police for the commercial servers will primarily enforce bot hunting only in MVP areas. This also includes skill abuse problems during WoE (Pesky Ice Wall peeps).

  12. The police thingie would be a good thing only if they will be fair and not judge a lot of people na bots sila. Typically madaming ganung sa laro ng pRO.

    Nga taong gusto makasira sa paglalaro sa pamamagitan ng paglalabas ng maling sikreto or tsismis. Paano na kung ang isang tao ay ganun?


  13. Most, if not all peeps in Thor are fair players, IMO. The fact of it is that they’re vigilant in reporting bots.

Sana may say ang mga tag-Thor.I mean the names of those na mapipili ng LU para maging police ay dapat na ma-post para makapag-coment ang mga players sa tunay na ugali nila. Mas kilala kasi ng mga thorians ang ugali at pagkatao nila. Mas maganda nga sana kung puwede silang iboto (HAHA!) Yung nasa top 12 ang magiging pulis.(ala senators?)

    At sana may sanctions din laban sa mga pulis na ito kung sakaling umabuso sila.

    At ngayon pa lang, I vote for Sir David (ahahahah!)

    question sa merge: will kafra passwords be reset after the merge? i have 3 accounts with 1yr+ of inactivity because i forgot the kafra password. and custcare keeps nagging me for security questions like hell. my registered email account was a POP account and not a free one, when i transferred providers my old email account went kapoof as well. cant they understand simple things like that?

    im sure a lot of people have quit pRO for the simple fact that custcare just keeps saying the same old shit like it was copied from a template or something.

    hope you can do something about this. your efforts are greatly appreciated.

    for the commercial servers, kawawa naman yung mga magiging ronda patrol na on-duty pag siege… hindi sila makakasali sa fun-fun (unless na hindi talaga sila WoE’er XD)

  19. I have been hoping for an EXP Mod a week or before the Server Merger. School has take me away from Roking and I miss sitting beside my bro or sis leveling our avatars.

    The point in an EXP Mod this time would be something like the ending the current servers with a bang. See, I started playing RO two years ago during the Amatsu and Kunlun Update upon the insistence of my kid brother who was still 5 years old then. Looking back, I remember that there was an EXP Mod for two weeks. It was 5x exp mod, 3x drop rate mod (I’m sure you guys remember that time). And you know what, my funny starting-out story involves circumstances like the 3-days free time for new accounts with the said EXP Mod, and when the two-week paradise ended, my bro’s thief did not make Sin, my sis remained an Aco, and my rogue was not yet to be. Point is, I wish there’d be another one of those 5x/3x weeks - so that I start and end (with the current server) in the same way. Only this time, I hope not to be as noobie as I was back then.

  20. Wauks, suggest for the bot police, that only high levelled characters (level 80+??) who have never belonged to a guild, be allowed. Yung high level requirement, para sure na committed na player. Yung no guild requirement, para walang bias.

    Fair na uli ang MVP maps at siege. Go Thor players, pakita nyo na effective yan sa server nyo pra maimpliment sa other commercial servers.

    Bakit ba pag sinabi nyong commercial servers eh etsa puwera ang Thor? Di ba commercial server din ang Thor?!

    The burden of proof will always go to the accuser.

    And one of the concerns laid out before that its pretty hard and time consuming for regular vanguards to review suspected accounts especially when they come by the hundreds. And since the only true option is to catch them red-handed by the “vanguard” itself, i find it that the only true solution is to really employ “vanguards”.

    Vanguards are like “judge dredds” of ragnarok. instant justice serve ingame.

    But i see the light on this, encouraging citizens to be part of the process. however as i mentioned much of the evaluation and work will still be weighed on the vanguards themselves.


  28. Itong police program na to magiging similar system ng vanguard(GM paring ang vanguard sa kanila yung vanguard semi-gm lang) system ng RF.

    which players are granted with a semi-vanguard account. Disable yung trade, at kafra pati killing at exp disable din.

    And kaya lang nyang gawin is to summon players and maybe they’ll be on a list of suspected botters.

    Hinde naman siguro pwede mag ban ng mag ban diba? isu-submit din naman nila yun sa mga nakatataas sa kanila.

    So I think this system will be safe. ^_^

    aside from the MVP Hunter, Skill Abusers, how about the Brewer Bots, Warper Bots (during siege), SL Bots (in pvp) also included in the list to be policed?

    hmm.. nice idea but lots of things to do.

    evidences, proofs, screenshots… and to the point that there’s a limit… MVP areas only? is that police program for MVP hunters (different kind of jobs) only?

    what if the character is on the MVP map, but not MVP hunting but bot-leveling, will that be justified as MVP hunting bot? would that be un fair to other leveling bot in some other maps? accuracy of the report… it needs to be justified if the chracter is MVP hunting or just leveling.

    if you’re going to pull a program that is just merely to stop MVP hunting, then make sure that the “police patrols” will surely and clearly report the character that is purely MVP hunting.

    kawawa naman mga priest sa MAP in Dark Lord.. pati sa map ni ORC Hero. sana matukoy nila kung sino ang MVP hunter dun at sino ang hinde. (monmonmonmon)

    I’ve been dying to go MVP hunting esp like that of last summer wherein my online barkada and I would hunt MVP’s a lot … heck I even missed siege many times because I preffered the thrill of hunting over siege … lol . Sadly our fun ended because of those abusive biochems.

    Also include miniboss maps too esp popo island

    off topic pero i want to ask kung na tweak ba ang success rate ng pagoverups ng gamit? Parang ang hirap na magoverups ngayon kahit level 1 weapon lang. Sana pagdating sa ng merge ibalik pa rin yung dating success rate sa pagoverups

    Midgard Police huh? I suggest hunting for buffer bots too.. Marami sigurong kokontra, but i suggest hunting for siege bots(SG wizards, coaters, repairs, warpers, linkers, etc) and PvP buffer bots (esp linkers).. if anyone needs a buff or something, get ‘em from a player >:)..

    siege bots gave the former warpers*/sanc’er*/repairers*/buffers* something that they didn’t had - to participate by being with the actual siege itself, instead of being left back at the base camp

    let them do the most “boring” jobs

    siyempre magsasawa rin yung warper… tapos minsan walang may gusto pumalit sa kanya kasi nga boring/konti tao… so kasalanan pa niya pag wala siya sa post niya pag crucial time… mas masaya nga pag marami tao nakikipagsagupaan… the more the merrier

    *-nasa base camp at hindi sa mga agits mismo… bot defending is another story though… reliance on bot defenders means they cannot rely on themselves to defend their own castle which means… you get it…

    hmm I’m not much of a PVP’er though, pero sana naman yung mga naglalagay ng buffer sa waiting area ibuff lahat ng tao :)

    whoops i’m seeing another power abuse scenario in the MVP ronda patrol, but I’ll not elaborate on it… baka may manggaya or makaisip ng plano… XD

    since some players either lazy or no time for looking at RB. And the

    allowed voters should be 3rd jobs ( to avoid using bot accounts

    for voting and prevent landslide win :( ) Should be done ingame

    and the winners from the vote has no capability of dropping/trading

    or vending items.

    tapos naka asign kmi sa superior para d natatambakan yung mga elected main police, then pde rin mag report samin yung ibng players.. gets? pero wala kmi GM skills though i wish meron akong skill kht isa lng

    MVP hunters (biochem, champ)
    linkers, buffers, brewers, auto follow
    Bot vendors
    bot mini games (gah! meron daw eh)

  59. Sana yung mapipiling bot police ay malagay ang mga names ng characters na gamit. para kung meron man silang masamang nagawa, masasabi ng ibang players at agad silang maalis sa listahan.

    Some thor players are vigilant bot hunters, pero medyo bastos. nakakainsulto na ang sinasabi. Pwede naman ksing mag pm ng maayos like “elowpo”,kaso yung iba banat agad ng “bot bot bot!” gayong naka-upo ka lang sa kafra at nag re regen or busy sa RB.

    worst pa merong biglang babanat ng mga swear words. Thorians know these people. LU doesn’t know them. So sana ang last say ay nasa aming mga Thorians pa rin.


  60. Hmm.. Remember that players in THor (at least the manual ones) can’t be on call 24/7, they have to rest, eat, level up, and WoE too. If you were to hire midgard sentinels, you might as well hire professional ones, not volunteers. Para siguradong on-call all the time.

  64. The problem I really see with these so-called Midgard Police is that they are players. “Selected Players” itself is a suspicious criterion. People are people and people have vested interests. And what constitutes the selection criteria to be a policeman? Dahil ba sikat ka at ka-chikahan mo mga GM at nakikipagchukchakchenes ka sa LUG events? Anyone…anyone, can go ranting around Prontera screaming about how he or she has a truckload of evidences implicating botters and pass themselves as “concerned players”. The sore point here is that who are these players answerable to? GMs can be fired from their jobs and have a black mark on their employment record during a background check when applying for their next job. An abusive police can get what? A permaban on their character? Then they’ll just shift to account #X. Giving players power other players is a dangerous concept that LUG is playing with.

  67. I have a question regarding this Thor Police Force thing.. So they are still normal players?? I mean they are still their characters but they have this duty?? What are the benefits of being a police..

    I will be quitting soon because I can’t afford to pay for the game.. I don’t want to play anymore but I want to help the Thor Community so I guess I can help by being a police.. But of course, I won’t be paying top-up to be a police.. (But I guess this is somewhat similar to a Game Master..) Just a suggestion.. If ever I can be and willing to be on duty at night..


  68. If it is to stop the bots in Thor, I would gladly volunteer all my characters for this Midgard Police. I would gladly leave behind levelling and hunting for rares to hunt for BOTS!!
