Gaming: Ragnarok Server Merge Update! Character Slots & Kafra Storage?

Hi guys! I just came from a very long meeting about the Ragnarok Server Merge. This time it was very technical, and I had the chance to ask questions that you guys posted earlier. Jinn, our Gravity Engineer stationed here, was swarmed with questions not just from me, but also from our IT and CS teams. Anyway, let’s get down to business! I’m sure you all want to know the FINAL DATE of the Server Merge, as well as what will happen to your character slots and kafra storage.

FINAL DATE:APRIL 25, 2007
The Server Merge will be moved on April 25, 2007. We will merge all participating worlds in one day, and there will be a 20-hour maintenance. On April 20-24, Gravity Engineers from Korea will fly in and test the merge on copies of the various servers. We will have back-up copies of the servers and database just in case there are any major problems encountered. The merge was delayed for a week because of the need to get more Koreans here so that the project will run smoothly.

SERVER MERGE OFFICIAL WEBSITE
We’re finalizing the official website of the Server Merge. Hopefully it will be up by next Wednesday. At the latest, it will be up on the first working day after Holy Week.

CHARACTER SLOTS
Gravity cannot increase the number of slots yet. However, they have already agreed to increase it a few weeks/months after the Server Merge. There is a big chance that this update will come with Rachel, also known as Arunafeltz or Episode 11.1.

KAFRA STORAGE
Gravity will look into doubling the capacity of the Kafra Storage, but they gave us no guarantee that it will be approved by their development team. If anyone knows of any country that has done this, please let me know so I can have more information when I talk to them again on Tuesday.

NAME CHANGE
No news yet. Hopefully we can come up with a service but there will be a fee. I’ve been very busy coordinating with Gravity and our IT team if this is possible to pull off.

  10. hmmm any hot korean girl developers coming in the country chief? ^^V kidding aside. May news na po ba sa new classes which are rumored? after Rachel, may isa pa then the rumored classes are coming in na.

    tsaka po sana na take into consideration yung population kapag RPC time. A lot of players are only active during that time span. so it would be quite bad if nagkaron ng massive lag spikes lalo na sa agit seiges.

  12. I don’t see why the players have to pay for a name change. It’s not their fault that some idiot from another server have the same name as their character. And people are attached to their characters. No one likes a prefix added to their character names. That’s just horrible.

    Make the name change free. It’s part of the server merge. People from kRO or jRO got it for free when their servers merged. Apparently, the people who managed jRO thought about conflicting names. So how come LU hasn’t thought about it? And why charge us a fee for something that LU should have managed in the first place? We’re supposed to pay for the names we made in the first place? That’s absurd.

  14. What if I in 1 account I have 5 characters in Chaos and 5 in Loki? How would that go about?


  15. Some comments:

    If you have 5 in Chaos and 5 in Loki you’ll have two accounts. When you exceed the sum of 5 (Chaos + Loki Characters), you will have 2 accounts. If you keep it within 5, you will end up with just 1 account.

    Making the name change even available is a danger in itself. It can be abused, and players might end up copying the names of other players for scamming purposes.

    I’ll discuss Color Coding with Gravity on Monday. :)

    paunahan nman tlga sa name eh… khit nman ngyon if somebody tries to craete a character w/ someone already owning the name… the server wont let you… so it actually “boiled down” since beta days…

    make the npc name change free of charge…& at least 1 time use per character… these are barriers already…

    and if ur saying that placing these changes will endanger game integrity, there is one solution…

    dont merge

    the game is running fine, albeit the frequent map errors of izlude & GH… why jeopardize it by merging servers?


  17. hay sayang expected ko pa naman pag dating ng merge magkakaroon ako ng 1 account with 9 high leveled transcendents characters, i expected too much… i really hope na hindi pa final yung plan na yan and sana maopen muna yung empty slots bago mag merge para magsama sama yung chars ko s iris and lydia na one account lang……


  18. In so far as the decision to or not to merge, it’s final that we will. It’s a directive straight from higher management and I also believe that the merge strengthen the community because of the new rivalries and alliances. It’s a fresh new start - something pRO needs.

    With regards to the name change, it’s still something that we still need to decide on with finality.

    My main worry is that a lot of players have multiple accounts. They can keep their main character name and change their other characters into someone else’s name for scamming or impersonation purposes.

    Lastly, with regards to the color, I remember why we couldn’t do that. Let’s say Carlo in color Blue and in Red exist in Baldur. If you PM “Carlo”, who will get the message?

    Anyway, don’t worry guys, I’ll see what I can do next week. I’ll try to post another update before Holy Week.


  19. elo. paano po kung meron akong account na meron character sa iba-ibang servers? what happens now?

    Example: In 1 account, there are 4 characters in Odin, 5 characters in Iris, 3 in Chaos, 1 in Sarah and 5 in Lydia.


  20. Sana naman isabay na ung increase ng char slot. Natuwa pa naman ako nung una kc akala ko magsasama na ung characters ko sa Sarah at Lydia. :(

    No offense pero mas makikinabang ang LU pag hindi isasabay ung increase ng char slot. Syempre magiging dalawa ang account mo. More income to LU.


  21. don’t you think it will be more viable to have the merge take effect when the char slots are increased? since if you think about it, once the servers are merge and your chars from the two servers are divided into two accounts… whats the use for you of having the extra char slots activated?

    * Changes Brought By Server Merges / Testable Features*

    - You can select up to 9 characters to be preserved for the merge. Any other characters not in this list will be deleted. You should also see character select window now has 9 slots to work with.

    - At the time of the merge, characters will have their names changed temporarily, and you can set a new name during character select menu.

    - Kafra storage system will now hold up to 600 items (from 300 current maximum allotment).

    - Guilds will still be owned by the correct Guild Masters even if their names change.

    - Item effectiveness for rankers will remain.

    eerrr … madam you can always go to thor to have a clean and bot free environment. People always have a choice, whether they want to shift to another server or stick with his friends kahit na sobrang “hindi na tao” ang naglalaro.

    all of you guys have 5 high level characters in the servers that will merge?? ^^V ang galing naman nun. Ako hirap na hirap ako magpalevel ng 1 character lang let alone 5 (or ten in 2 different servers).

    Any tips ba?


  26. wow! i’m excited with the incoming server merge. thank you for empowering us players in this endeavor by hearing out suggestions and actively answering queries about game features and developments.

    i trust that… with whatever mechanics you and the koreans agreed upon, the players’ interests are foremost in your decision-making.

    and like in your previous blog posts, at the end of the day, you know that you give your best in every thing you do to serve and in accomplishing your tasks.


  27. My character’s name is my primary concern prior to the server merge. I know that someone from Loki has exactly the same character name like mine. I hope LU! would do something about this.

    It’s okay if we would pay for our characters’ names as long as the process would be fast, easy, and worth the payment. I mean, I’m not expecting something like you have to follow up the case once in a while, or characters bugs, things like that.

    So I have 10 Characters, 5 in Chaos and 5 in Loki, and then that would be two accounts after the server merge.

    So how would 2 accounts go about? i mean with concerns to username and password?

    If I forgot the email that I used for that account (since that was 3 years ago) where would they send the info? On MyLevelup?

    they are all in safe answers na kung saan safe ang LU kapag nagkaroon ng problema…

    ok, himay himayin natin, una, kafra storage, lahat ng nagsuggest gusto ng 600/600 kafra…. 100% players say that… you can check the previous job, and sabi nga ng LU IT team, i-didiscuss nila un sa Gravity. yup! they did discuss it, right! good job! but did you achieve the goal? NO! ang sinabi lang tungkol sa kafra storage e…

    err~ bakit ganun? safe pa din sila any way around, hindi naman sinabing gagawing 600/600 and no guarantee pa…. so that means if server merge comes, tapos hindi 600/600 ung kafra storage, pwede nilang sabihin na wala silang kasalanan kasi sinabi ni la na there’s no guarantee, ibig sabihin kung dumating ung server merge and nawala mga gamit mo… hindi nila kasalanan ang ginawa lang nila e, i-discuss sa gravity pero hindi naman na-achieve ung goal.

    ikalawa, character slots, lahat ule ng players na nagcomment sa previous server merge blogs requested to add more character slots, one of the reasons is to continue playing their chracters, in one acount and to avoid paying more play time, hindi din naman kasaanan ng player kung ginawa nyong maraming server dati and ung account na ginawa nya e para malaro ung mga characters kahit na sa magkaibang server. we don’t have to suffer of paying 2 accounts just to play both characters na intended namin for 1 acount lang (previously). back to the point, lahat gusto ng additional character slots, na ahieved ba ang goal!?? NO! what happened? all comments and suggestions 100% ignored.

    in conclusion, all they did was discuss nothing more but all less, we gave comments / suggestions but all were ignored. of course, i know you have to live by the rules and regulations of Gravity or else (i dunno and i don’t care). the fact that all of the interactions between players and LU IT Team, nothing happened, we;re making suggestion (players) and all are in one minds, but all of those suggestions were put into waste. do what is right to do. FIGHT for what all is saying and don’t stop until you achieve the goal. hopefully, the theme of making the Ragnarok Online game a more Filipino Game happen today, hopefully they wil listen to the majority or should I say all filipino players (what we like, what we don’t like and what we’re satisfied with) WILL and SHOULD HAPPEN. LU please don’t just DISCUSS but implement what players like and besides we are the ones whose INSIDE the game. And GOD please enighten these people. Sya Nawa…

    Things don’t happen overnight. If I didn’t want to hear your suggestions and comments, I could have made this blog private. In fact, I can just come up with a website with the mechanics and that’s it.

    Things take time, and its good that I get suggestions from you so when I talk to Gravity I already have your feedback. However, don’t expect everything to go as we want. Take note that the dependency here is NOT with Level-up, it is with Gravity.

  32. About the name change. How about if it is optional. As in, hindi sya total reset sa lahat ng characters, ung may gusto lang para malimit ang gumagaya :| I also have another use for that color scheme, how about lagyan ng color ung mga nag name change para malalaman mo rin kung scammer sila. Anyway, I really apreciate all your effeorts waukeen :D rok on!


  33. Regarding splitting up the accounts into two.. If i have an account named “account”, It has 5 characters in Chaos and 5 characters in Loki. After the merge, they will split it and I will have 2 accounts, “account” and “account2″ respectively. What will happen if I want to top-up again? Will this mean I have to buy two P100 cards just to play my characters?

    Yup if your accounts split, you’ll have to maintain multiple accounts if you want to play your characters. That’s why we strongly recommend that you delete your characters that you really don’t use in other servers so you can still have one account at the end of the merge.

    You have to put an expensive price para sa name change. Para madiscourage yung mga taong may balak abusuhin ang feature na yan for illegal purposes.

    @GM sana maayus na yung bug.. there are certain items na nde ma open sa hypermarket katulad nung hwelgermir’s tonic box. Please fix the bug. Nagfile na ako ng ticket wtf.. Mga binili mo nga discounted naman, nde mo naman magamit… T_T kakabuwisit hehe …

    Gravity enabled these on kRO after the merge:

    1. FREE name change
    2. 600 Kafra Storage Capacity
    3. 9 Character Slots

    So baket kelangan magpaalam sa Gravity na i-implement toh sa pRO? Eh ginawa nga nila sa kRO eh? Baket ayaw nila gawin sa pRO?

    Simple lang naman sagot dyan eh. Ok lang sa Gravity pero ayaw ng LU.

    Gusto ng LU may BAYAD ang name change. Gusto ng LU i-split ang account into two accounts instead of giving us 9 Slots. Para mas marami mag top-up.

    So please don’t tell us na LU has to consult with Gravity. Eh kung ginawa sa kRO bat di pwede gawin sa pRO di ba?

    Wag naman sana paikotin ang utak namin. Di naman kami ganun ka tanga.

    The initial mechanics being posted here were not drafted by Level-up, they were given to us by GRAVITY and each time we have a meeting, I bring up the topics you guys post here and we debate. In fact, I am very THANKFUL that you guys give me data like this that I can use to muscle the changes that we all want. As I keep saying time and time again, if we wanted to just do it the way it is posted now, then I wouldn’t have bothered posting the initial mechanics here for everyone’s comments.

    I want to hear from everyone, and I want the player’s input with me when I discuss it in my meetings.

    So uulitin ko, yes Level-up has to consult with Gravity (Sad as it may sound, Lol).

    With regards to the character slots - Jinn (Gravity Engineer posted here) told us that the version what we have will need several patches first before we can apply the upgrade. I already asked him how long it will take to get the patches here so we can try to have the slots up before the server merge.

    For the kafra storage, he said that he will coordinate directly with the development team if it’s feasible with the pRO client.

    I’ll get more details on Monday when I meet with them and I’ll post here to give everyone another update. Same process after, you guys give your comments and I’ll meet Gravity again the day after (Lol). :)


  42. see, the hard part of this server merge is on the LU side, having more patches means…. upgrading your system? then why not? upgrade it if that will benefit all. or if more patches means…. more time to consider? then why not? if it takes time for server merge then move again the said date… as long as it satisfies the Filipino players and it satisfy the security of items, equips and characters of Filipino players. there should only be one goal and that is to satisfy the Filipino gamers and not to satisfy the pockets of LU company.

  45. Although I don’t like the addition of the prefix/suffix in names, the problem I’m seeing with the Name Change is the possibility of stolen identity… pero sabi nga nila, unahan na lang… unahan na lang ba…

    The problem I’m seeing with appending a prefix/suffix is some names will go over the max character limit…

    just a thought: paano yung mga names sa mga abandoned/inactive accounts? bay may mga kaparehong pangalan na hindi na ginagamit na pwede iclean-up… para yung mga ibang tao hindi na dadaan sa name-change procedure…

    may naiisip akong idea para sa name problem… pero sobrang complex kung ikukwento ko gamit salita…
    kung familiar po kayo sa pseudocode it goes something like this:

    if name is unqiue on serverA and serverB… do nothing - names cannot be taken

    if name is on serverA and serverB… do ff:
    find a way to reserve the original name so that others cannot get the particular name
    append (as a prefix/suffix) temporary server initials on the 2 characters with the same names (just to prevent duplicate key) then
    opt for a name change. at this point the original names are available to the two characters… whoever is first to get the original gets the dibs, however they may opt for a new name, given the fact the new name is not yet taken… the old name is not released as long as both characters haven’t gone the name change procedure… this is to prevent identity theft…

    sana talaga magkaroon agad ng 9 slots per account..i have 3 chars on iris, and 3 on sarah. D ko pwede idelete kahit ano dun. 3rd job na lahat ng chars ko. wtf? uulit ulit ako? damn! ang hirap po magpalevel up. Lagi pa namang walag mod exp. At ang MAHAL p ng LOAD!

    Actually I’m studying the process of implementing the changes everyone here mentioned. If there is a way to have the increased character slots, double kafra storage, and name change implemented, then we will go with that. The only bad thing though is that we would probably have to delay the Server Merge 2-3 more weeks.

    I think it’s not a question of resources, it’s more of time. Anyway, let me get back to all of you on Monday. I’ll have a LONG talk with Gravity to see if we can have all the changes you guys want implemented.

  49. If our current pRO Client still needs several patches before we can have the 9 character slots and 600 Kafra Storage, Then I suggest LU to postpone the server merge until the much needed patches are applied to our pRO Client so that we can enjoy the same effects like kRO.

    Take this for example : An account named “account” was split into two. Thus it became “account” and “account2″ with 5 characters each. Then the so-called “9 Character Slots Upgrade” came.. Will they be able to merge the two accounts again into one? Will they be able to migrate the characters inside ‘account2′ into ‘account’? I foresee this as a future problem. Please enlighten me/us.

No name change with the merge? kRO had a one time free name change because of the merge since all those unlucky players who have a name that is duplicated in other server will have a prefix on their names e.g. S1_NameOfChar. I want the name change service since iRO had it like 100 years ago. But I do hope that there would be a one-time free name change because of the prefix issue for those who have duplicated names.

    Wauks, can I suggest something like once the server merge info is finalized, can the GM team spam GM message about the official website where we can all get the updates since you’ll find it quite suprising many players don’t know about the merge and they believe rumors and take them as FACTs.

    IDAAN NALANG NATIN SA PVP!!! PAREHONG PANGALAN (TO BE SEPARATED BY COLOR CODING [FOR THE MEANTIME] ANG MAGLALABAN FOR THE RIGHTS OF THIR NAMES!!!

    ex. a character from chaos and loki have the same name…say, “nokia5110″, pumunta nalang sila sa PvP room (to be announced by our…”respective” (sarcastically) Vanguards (dahil hindi sila GM). And settle the score there…

  60. waiting for the patches to be released before the server merge would really resolve MANY issues raised

    also another scenario (i don’t know if it’s possible though)
    what if a prominent player has 2 accts on the servers that will be merged his characters would be renamed someting like
    [CHAOS]Waukeen and [LOKI]Waukeen
    then some scammer named “[CHAOS]kulz” decides to have his name changed once the name change option is available and was able to get Waukeen as his name… wouldn’t that be an issue?

    can we just allow deletion of the appended name instead of totally changing the char name? so u get to choose which of your chars gets the original name

Mr Waukeen, it’s inappropriate to ask Gravity whether there is NAME CHANGE or not because it’s already understood that IT MUST BE that if LUG will gonna mess with players names, at least they should give their players the right to refuse “Hey I don’t like that name! It wasn’t my fault if their is server merge?”


  62. kung nid i-upgrade muna ng pRO clients para lng maimplement ang 600/600 kafra storage at 9 char slots… so be it… i-upgrade na ang i-aupgrade… server merge have been talked about since last year… nakapaghintay na ang players up to now… i think makakapaghintay pa kami kahit 1 more month [kung kailangan talaga maghintay] para sa server merge at maging free flowing without bugs and glitches…

    about sa name change… why not ibalik uli ang ascii coded characters? to add more uniqueness sa mga names… kung natatakot tayo sa mga scammers na maaring gumaya ng names natin… uniqueness is one way para somewhat ma prevent sila… and one more thing… i hope name change comes “free”

  65. How about an NPC where you can register your character and name?

    Ex.

    Before merge, Juan from Loki talks to NPC to register his name. NPC records and registers Juan, including his account and character ID.
    So does Juan from Chaos.

    After merge, Juan from Loki becomes [LO]Juan. So ang mangyayari only the two of them has the right to rename to their original name because only they have talked and registered thru the NPC. If another anonymous player wants his name to be Juan also for scamming purposes, he cant coz he is not registered.

    ONLY the original ones have the right to have that name.

    i would like to comment on server merge.. have pRO tested this server merge in our test server?? y dnt pRO try to do a sample server for “server merge testing” para hnd mag sugal ang mga player s kalalabasan ng merge.. para dn hnd masayang yung pag aantay nila s maintenance ng merge.. sana nga payagan ni ung 9 char..

  69. 1. Ano pa ang use ng 9 character slots after the merge? Kung mag-o-open ng slot, dapat ngayon nang merge. Useless po na mag-open pa ng slot KUNG DELETED NA ANG MGA CharaCTErs ndi po ba? Lalo na kaya kung binaboy na rin ang account name (username1,username2…).

    2. Saka, not all people are positive about the merge. So sana bigyan ng consideration ang mga players. Lalo na pagdating sa Character names, kapag nag-merge tapos may prefix na ang name namin, wala nang kwenta un. Its not the name that we registered anymore. So DAPAT talagang bigyan kami ng chance na mag-change name or else, I-RETAIN NYO NA LANG ANG NAMES NAMIN AS IS.

    3. And sana, magpost po kayo ng FINAL ANNOUNCEMENT about the merge at least a week prior to the merge. Yung mga bagay na 100% na matutuloy para sure kami kung ano ang gagawin namin. Laki na rin kasi ang puhunan namin sa mga characters/accounts at hindi ganun kadali ang magdelete/ma-change ang account name.


  70. sana magkaroon na ng final statement ang LUG regarding this matter.. Almost 2 weeks nalang before ang merge, unclear pa din yung ibang issues..

  79. this maybe a very late comment since server merge is scheduled next week but—pls dont merge the servers without the “complete” set of patches and, i really liked the “color schemed character names” idea, you said that there might be troubles about the pm system, then why not put an option before the name to be pm’ed–2 boxes, 1 for which server/color, and another for the name/nick of the character to be pm’ed, i really disagree about the name change

    sabi nila, paunahan, eh nauna na dati eh, ano paunahan ulit? it’s like saying na may winner na sa rpc pero i-reset yung statistics because of some stuff, nanalo ka na kukunin pa sayo, personally, i have a really BIG attachment with my characters, somehow the name isnt so special BUT it’s the name that i was known for, sabi nila sorry na lang yung mahuli sa pag change ng name, eh dati nauna na kami/kayo/sila eh, bakit pa uulitin? Also, ascii characters yung names ko eh, pag nag name change, dko na makukuha yun–same goes for others–it wouldnt be the same, it would look “too plain”

    is the merge date going to be moved or not?–just to make sure, i really lack details on the matter>.

    kasi pagdating ng merge mag aagwan ng pwesto sa savepoint lalo n sa amin 3 kaming server
