Gaming: Ragnarok Server Merge Update (7:10PM)

Like what I said in my previous post, having something run smoothly was just too good to be true. So far we’ve counted several problems already in the merge. I’d like to take this time to clarify some things and to let you guys know what we’re doing to solve the problems. This is in line with my goal of being as transparent as possible when it comes to Ragnarok Online. Initially everything was going well - reports from testing and Gravity indicated that everything was going according to plan. However, when the merging process was completed and the servers went live, some changes were made with the mechanics without being fully explained to the pRO Team. This is something that shouldn’t happen, and we’re going to make sure that Gravity gets the message that they should always stick to what we agreed on. You can read about the changes in the recent announcement which was posted on the official Ragnarok Website.

Server Merge Changes

Good day Citizens of Midgard,

In order to facilitate a smooth server merge process, Gravity was forced to pre-determine the dominant servers. Instead of calculating which account had more characters, the dominant servers were preset to Chaos, Odin, and Sarah (based on population). This is something that couldn’t be avoided and we would like to apologize for the sudden changes brought about by this development.

NAME CHANGE

This made the characters from Chaos, Odin, and Sarah go through the merge process without having to get a suffix afterwards. However, characters from these servers will no longer have the option of changing their names.

ACCOUNT SPLITS

If your account exceeded the kafra storage limit or the character slot limit, your Chaos, Odin, and Sarah characters will be located in your original account. Your other characters from the other servers will be transferred to USERNAMEpro01, USERNAMEpro02, and/or USERNAMEpro03. Take note that these accounts are unlinked to your MYLU and you will have to link them so that you can top them up properly.

We brought the servers earlier than promised but we’re expecting some bugs and problems like this one to come. The next few hours will be a test run and we would appreciate it if you submit any reports that will help us in stabilizing the server (map downs, dc issues, etc.). For players having problems with patching, please make sure that you are not using a hexed client. If you are from Thor, URDR, or Sakray, please patch the main servers first.

Like what I said, it was simply too good to be true. Anyway, I would like to let everyone reading this blog know that we are aware of the problems, and that we will try our best to apply fixes. This includes the connection issue as well as the misplaced top-up due to account split. If you have a problem with the top-up, you can file a ticket or call cust care and we will manually transfer the game time/rok points to your desired account. The Gravity Engineers are already on their way back to the office. It looks like it’s going to be another long night for everyone here at Level-up. Thanks for the support guys, and I would also like to apologize to those who were affected by this problem. I’ll try to post updates as frequently as possible so you know what’s happening.

    Try patching the main servers if you’re playing at Thor/URDR/Sakray. If not, then don’t use a hexed client.


  11. hindi po hexed ang client ko!!! ayaw nya lang mag patch. it patched but halfway though it failed patching ang repacked. the ayun na. ayaw na magpatch. i have no new CD’s. this is the 1st time i had problems patching

    That’s something new - thanks for bringing it up. Have you tried re-installing? You can download the installer from file front and/or bit torrent.

  25. The dupe items will be gradually removed. If you check my previous post, I said that the dupe items will be completely wiped after 2 weeks. We’re narrowing the deletions to godly items, boss cards, and some other items. We’ll post the list after we fix the merge.

Just coz those servers have more population doesn’t mean a certain user’s main characters are in that server!!!! They should’ve just stuck to what the original agreement was!!!     Im sure you’re going to have your hands full these coming few days attending to players’ complaints and problems about the merge, so let me give you a break. kis

    In fairness I didn’t encounter any problems. Probably because I followed your recommendation and avoided split accounts. I only have four chars on my server and one on another. I deleted the rest of my junk chars on other servers kahit na merong konting zeny/equips. I only have one account. I also cleaned my kafra to avoid the kafra limit. And luckily all my char names are unique.

    I’m really enjoying the merge so far. Dumami ulit vendors sa Pront. Dami kausap. Reminds me of my early Ragnarok days.

    Although the job wasn’t completely perfect (as expected)… but for one RO player (me), it was a job well done. no1

    Have your tried manually deleting the downloaded file sa rafnarok folder mo then try patching again? baka dala lang iyan ng corrupted file na na dl mo (which can happen during the DL process due to different reasons)

    Pero since madami naman ang nakapagpatch at di naman tinamaan ng error mo baka sa pag DL lang.

    If that fails, reinstall lang tlga which should be the last resort kse wala pang bagong installer CD available in the market.

    Cant we just transfer our splitted accts to our main accts, since in my case I dont got any single character nor even an item on my tertiary acct (mainly chaos) so obviously my loki acct would show up in baldur. The problem is its still splited up considering I havent exceeded any items/chars on any servers, so im not sure wether this is a bug on my acct or not.

    since the number of players per server bracket theoretically doubled, where there any “upgrades” done on the servers to ensure that it can still perform optimally? tonight’s siege was a battle of LAG and to think that bots are not yet operating 100%… what more if the bots (harvesters, warpers, buffers etc.) are already online?

    We used bigger servers to make sure that we can accomodate the load. The lag is probably temporary but I’ll bring it up with IT and Gravity tomorrow morning.

    2.) is the summoning of monsters part of a lag test?

    3.) why is other clients not patching up properly? re-installing will not even help solve the problem.

    i hope the matter could be resolved asap mas lalo na un dapat ma-affect sa name change na di na-affect at all because of “dominance servers”

    Question, by any chance would Sarah, Chaos and Odin still have a chance to have some of their chars names reset? Because I planned to fix some of my chars names but then it was announced that it wasn’t gonna happen for those 3servers. . .

    It’s kinda unfair they only changed the mechanics “AFTER” the merger? Thats just not fair to others that were affected by the sudden change in mechanics. . . So is there still a possibility of change names?

  72. i agree with blaqfire…they should’ve just stuck to what was already agreed upon. everyone was ready for a marathon maintenance. some even expected the game to be up tomorrow pa. to just go ahead and do something else apart from what was already set behind everyone’s back is just plain wrong, whether with pahabol announcement or not. if that was what was going to happen, they should’ve sent an early warning or notification so that everyone would’ve been notified. such sudden and unannounced modifications are just plain irritating ( which, depending on individuals, could potentially be putting it mildly ).

    they have done several tests before the actual merge dba? what are those for? kung may prob sa name change, dpat doon pa lang sa tests ay nadetect na nila. as far as i can remember, you even said that they went here in advance just to study the freasibility of the name change option.


  74. The merge was mostly a success IMO, although dahil na-prioritize yung Odin kaysa Fenrir it caused the loss of my main character’s name T___T Kainis talaga I’ve had it since 2003 pero nawala nalang sakin ng wala akong kalaban-laban. Haaay…

    Anyway thanks again for all of LUG’s efforts. I topped up 350 today for my main account because I was (mostly) pleased with the results so far… here’s hoping I get my pink drooping kitty tomorrow! e8


  75. Actually if you compare what happened to us compared to other countries, our Server Merge was the best. In other countries they were down for almost 1 week and there were alot of missing items, characters, and even guild levels/exp were reset.

    If you pause and think about it, the pRO Server Merge was really okay. With regards to the name change, it’s not that big of a loss considering that the ones who can’t change names didn’t get a suffix.

    Lastly, with regards to the testing, everything was actually okay when we tested, but there were several problems that came up and they needed to change the mechanics in order to avoid those bugs. At one point in the testing I think more than a thousand characters were displaced. The change of mechanics were crucial in making sure that the merge was smooth and relatively bug-free (compared to other countries who merged).

I’m sorry, just annoyed with the presetting of the dominant servers, which was decided in a heartbeat and when users no longer can make necessary moves/adjustments accordingly. I’m considering this option kasi in case there is no other option or development.

  86. kuya wauks, if it is not technically possible to make the name changing option available to everyone along with the merging process, is it possible kaya na magchange name manually? i mean, magfafile na lang ng CS ticket lahat ng players from dominant servers na gus2 magchange ng name?

    if i remembered it right, during the early days of pRO, one of the rules states that “using explicit names is prohibited blahblahblah…” tapos pag nahuli ka raw ay papalitan ng GMs ang name mo into something else at wala ka nang magagawa dun. so ibig sabihin, possible ang changing of names right?

  93. having a bias on who gets to keep the original name is something. some of us got our names taken from us, not because there were people who actually was using that name, but taken just to spite us. so most of us now cant access our old names, and have to resort to ascii or a whole new name, which can be a bummer for some. e5

  95. i appreciate for the job well done wauks. mine was okay. i have one split account for each of my two accounts. those included characters and kafra items from fenrir (kasi main server ko is odin).

    the only thing na nadisappoint ako was the name change. gumawa pa naman ako ng mga novice sa fenrir para pwede ko change names ko sa odin tapos in the end ndi pla mtutuloy. actualy ndi ko nakita agad ung update post sa pro website regarding the 3 servers not having name change. it was kinda late to say it given the situation na excited ang players na i-login accounts nila into the new servers. kaya tuloy andaming nagrereklamo sa aming mga odinians na “bakit fenrir lang ang may change name”. dun ko na nalaman nung icheck ko pro website for the news update later on.

    sana naman mabigyan kami ng pag-asa magchange ng name khit papano.

  103. no1 you might not be able to read on this, you’re probably sleeping. I appreciated that you were able to have the servers up earlier than possible, even with the lag right now, it’s tolerable than not having to log on for 3 whole days.. ^^

    to everyone who had hoped to have your name changed, I did dreamt of that too. But then again I thought, who named our characters?

    If you get stuck with a lousy character name.. then you’d know who to blame.

    Your avatar’s name is something to hold on to, isn’t it?
    If you’ve been known around well, why the hell would you want to change your namesake? It’s like getting liposuction or even plastic surgery.

    I’m not saying this because I did not want to change my name, I did, I really really hoped I would be able to, but then thinking about it. It would’ve been lousier if I had:

    It helps a lot having your old name than to change because you used your characters to scam or hack other players…

    It helps a lot having old names in PvP especially you are always inside the PvP rooms.. The players will know if you are from the other server or from the same server as before..

    Kung kilala na char mo sa ibang players bakit pa palitan..

    No doubt theyre alot of lokinians that are weak (or not that good) considering most who go to pvp’s rely to much on boss cards (no offense) aside from relying too much on numbers in terms of siege, I also think of their popularity threads silly considering their basis is not skill but who’s got the better equips.

    Back on topic:
    I still havent got a reply from anyone here bout my case, already forwarded a report bout my dominant server not being on the main server even though ive wiped out everything (and still waiting). The naming convention isnt really much of a big issue (except for rankers, certain guilds, etc.) since practically money and time is wasted w/ this uncalled split acct problem.

  110. Sir Wauks kelan po mangyayari yung character transfer? napunta kc yung mga character ko sa split account eh. eh tpos ala ng load yung split account ko. pero yung main account merun pa eh kaso ala naman mga characters ko dun

    Panu din po yung sa load ko? matgal ba magtransfer and load from 1 account to another? kasi 3 days na lang natitira sa load ko eh tapos ang sabi sa announcement “Please take note that it will take 3-5 working days for the transfer.” . baka po pag natransfer na nila ubos na load ko sob2

    nagfile na din po ako ticket kaso ala pa rin reply..

  114. Hindi rin kami naniniwala na hindi nyo nga sinort cut yung merge swt

    They just used Sarah, Odin and Chaos as the new servers and migrated their parter servers there. Bots are already rampant waukeen. Hindi nag iba ang IP adress! Yun rin ang dahilan kung bakit walang suffix ang names ng servers na yun (Sarah, Odin at Chaos) at hindi nag reset memo points ng mga citizens from those servers.
