Gaming: Ragnarok Midgard Police

One of the hard things in handling an online game is the dependency on the developer for patches, updates, and bug fixes. Usually game publishers use the developer as the main reason for delays and problems. I’m guilty of this too, especially with Thor. In show business they have a saying - “The show must go on!”. I believe that this should be the same for gaming, and I will start doing that today. The main problem with the Thor service is the proliferation and access of bots. As the publisher, we cannot cut the access, but we can try better in stopping current botters and hopefully scaring the shit out of ones who have plans of doing so. The Ragnarok Midgard Police is a program that will empower players to help the Game Moderators in enforcing the rules and regulations of the game, including hunting bots in the Thor Server. Read on for the draft FAQ/Primer on the program.

What does the Midgard Police do?
They help the GMs enforce the rules and regulations of the game. They can actively hunt down bot suspects and other violators and coordinate with the GM Team for appropriate sanctions. Midgard Police members will get a special account that is trade locked and only has 1 character. The character can teleport (disabled during siege time to prevent abuse) to make patrolling easier and more effective. At first the Midgard Police program will only be in the Thor Server. We are studying the possibility of including the other servers after a month.

Can the Midgard Police ban a player?
No. Midgard Police can only help in reporting. They are the extension of the eyes and ears of the Game Moderator team. Once they see violations, they will report to the GM and the GMs will be the one to take care of the offender afterwards. Rule violations are not limited to just bots. Midgard Police can also help in catching skill abusers and the like.

How can I be part of the Midgard Police?
Right now we already have 3 volunteers roaming Thor and they are already coordinating with the GM Team. After 1 week of trial, we will refine the program some more and open it up for applications from Thor players. For the first phase, we will only accept Midgard Police applicants from Metro Manila because the Midgard Police will have a monthly general assemlby at the Level-up office.

Will members of the Midgard Police be known by the public?
No. If we give out the names of the Midgard Police, offenders can easily stay quiet or disconnect when they see them. Names of the Midgard Police and their identities will be kept secret by Level-up.

What can I get out of being a Midgard Police?
Other than the joy of catching botters, you will also get bonus game time and maybe some other incentives. If you want to know more, you have to apply (/gg).

  2. Can you propose having the free 5hours for new accounts removed. We both know that most botters in Thor only use the free 5hour accounts to harvest rare items in Geffen fields. It’s really not a secret. Or at least say why it is not possible because I can’t think of any reason why it can’t push through.

    And I hope this police experiment works. Try anything and everything just so you people can keep your word that you’ll do your best to keep bots out of Thor.

    Clarifications lang bro.

    1. Do you level with that account? Better yet, is there a need to level?
    2. Is there a need to procure items? If yes, since its trade locked, how?
    3. Can this 1 character choose jobs?

    I find it difficult to apply just to get the details especially since I want to go fulltime and abandon my character if ever I would apply and get the job.

    1. You can actually use your existing accounts and just run around if you want, but you won’t have the benefit of the teleport in the special accounts. You will be reporting through other modes of communication naman.

    2. The account is trade locked because that’s the policy for official Level-up accounts.

    5. Ano ang precautions para di mang abuso ang mga police?
    6. Isisikreto ang identity ng mga pulis? De di sila pulis kundi spy. AT di ba’t mas maganda kung kilala sila para tumigil sa pagbo bot ang makakakita sa kanila?
    Saka kung naka bot ang isang character kahit na nasa tabi pa niya ang kilalang pulis, sige pa rin yun sa bot. Pwede ngang sawsawan bot eh lang pakialam.
    In real life. The presence of policemen prevents crime. Mas maganda ang prevention. Sinong player ang magbo bot kung makikita niyang may pulis di ba?
    At dapat maaring magteleport agad ang pulis sa map kung saan may nakitang bot ang normal players, para mahuli agad.
    7. Dapat kilala mga players na magiging police. Pero pag bot police na sila, siyempre di na sila makikilala kase iba nang character gamit nila.
    Mas mapapapayapa ang kalooban ng ibang players kung alam nilang mapapagkatiwalaan ang nagpapatakbo sa police character.

    Do we need to go LUG office directly?
    What are the restrictions?
    What are the duties and responsibilities of a midgard police?

    How about having both visible and invisible police? Like there are police in uniform and plainsclothesmen or marshalls roaming around.

    The selection process will be very strict, and to pass you will need to pass an exam (ro game mechanics) and you will have to go through 3 interviews (last one being me).

    for my opinion, the main characters (not the special TANOD account) of the so called “RO Tanods” should be announced to everybody. so that IF EVER (i’m sure they will) that their main accounts be seen as bots by anybody (players not TANODS), then, kaboom… they have been pawned! This is called you “watch my back, and I will watch your back”.


  20. Pero kahit under cover sila dba they have 2 pm the suspected bot to confirm if the player is a bot. Eventually malalaman din names nila.. sugestion ko lang ung police ay magkaroon ng new character w/ different name every month para lalo ma praning ung mga botter.

    can the player manage the time of being a police on patrol and being a player who needs to level up, gather some items and vend?

    at first yeah, he/she can, but soon afterwards, the predator (player to bots) will become the prey (will level up using bots or vend while patroling using dual clienting)

  30. How exactly can you report the bot if the GM is not around (offline). Do you mail them and the GM will check on them the next day, if that is so. Wont it be a hassle? Unless there are GM who shifts during night time unlike Winter Tsuki who only goes from 1 - 9PM and nobody takes for his position after 9PM.


  31. Hey, I’d apply for that job! I’m kinda tired of my old chars anyway, and with nothing to do this summer, this may be my own way of helping Ragnarok regain its glory. The only bummer thing is they’d only accept applicants from the Metro (for the first phase anyway). I regularly go back to my hometown province in the weekends :(

Kung sino man ang mga pulis na ito pls check the maps near Geffen, Thara frogs, byalan, frilddora and on and on! Walang mapag-reportan ang mga tunay na players and these bots teleport so fast hirap makakuha ng screenshots.

    Thors population is being increased by these bots! Help! Pulis Pulis! Do something! The Free to Play has attracted a hundred bots!

    Those who knowingly enlist botters during WoE should voluntarily disband their guild in shame? Most of us are veteran RO players who can distinguish the obvious bots.

    Thor is a small community. People here almost know everybody else. Even if a character is supposed to be guildless (coz he leaves guild while in bot-mode), his guild affiliation can easily be traced.

    What say you?

    The midgard police is just a bonus. Bot-hunters will remain bot-hunters whether officially or unofficially.

    I don’t care kahit ma wipe out na 50-75% of buong RO community. It’s a part of the Terms and Agreements of playing RO not to use 3rd party programs in the first place! Push through with the program!!!! no1

    At para sa mga nag-iisip na mukhang pera ang LU dyan… I know that LU is investing for this kahit liliit ang kita nila galing sa RO (read: from ONE game) diba? inde lang nmn RO ang games nila eh… kaya madami pa sila makukuhanan ng kita.

    U know who I’m talking about, botters din naman ang nagsasabing mukhang pera ang LU at di nila iniimplement ang mga Ragdefender etc. At diba kaya lang naman kayo ngagbobot e para yumaman kayo? Sino mukhang pera ngayon?
