Gaming: Ragnarok 2 Localization Update (7.11.07)

As everyone knows, Ragnarok 2: Gate of the World, is going to launch this year! We’ve been busy preparing for it as early as January. Other than the marketing efforts, we’re also going to work on the localization. Basically each time a publisher gets a game, the task of translating and refining the scripts falls to the publisher. In this case, Gravity gives us the script and we make sure that the english is good. Usually when Level-up gets scripts, it’s in really BAD ENGLISH. For example, the Perfect World scripts were so messed up that it took us months just to fix everything - and that doesn’t include flavoring yet.

The good news for Ragnarok 2 is that Gravity put a lot of effort into the translation. I just recieved the first batch of scripts last night and I skimmed through them this morning. Surprisingly, the english is really good! I’m not just talking about grammar, but also about the flavoring. Here are some examples of the NPC scripts that we got:

‘{What, the Department of National Security? What the hell is that?}
{I told you a long time ago, remember? Don’t say you don’t remember because I’ve told you so many freaking times! Did you think that I would love being asked about it just because you’re asking me nicely with that smile on your face?}
{Stop being ridiculous! I hope the Department of National Security goes to hell!}
{Remember what I’ve asked you? “Do something about those goddamned field rats! I’ve told you so many freaking times! You’re a selfish little bastard, aren’t you?

More updates on RO2 weekly. The game is really starting to come alive and I can’t wait to see it go live this year!
