Gaming Outgrowing Music & Movie Industries
How serious is the online gaming industry? Very. According to a report published in Ars Technica, the Gaming industry’s growth in 2007 was bigger than the Movie and Music industries! Yes, you read that right. Gaming is on it’s way to overtake Hollywood!

In the past year, gaming grew by 28.4%, while movies grew by just 1.8%. The music industry decline by around 10%. Like what I said in my previous post, gaming is a lifestyle and more people are starting to embrace it. Maybe the movie and TV industries dropped because of the writer strike?
In the Philippines, the boom is starting to become more evident with the increasing number of console and online gamers. I’ve been invited several times already by various groups for Halo 3 multiplayer sessions on the XBOX 360. I also see more kids playing with their PSP or Nintendo DS.
PS
Sorry for not being able to post too much lately guys. I’ve been very busy with stuff outside of work (personal). I’ll be back on my regular daily posting tomorrow (Monday). If you have valid Ragnarok concerns, please file CS tickets since I won’t be able to forward concerns that you post here for now. - Wauks

yep the writers guild strike is one of the factors why the tv/movie industry dropped… NO SCRIPT MEANS NO SHOW! another factor why it dropped is INTERNET… internet is the reason why there’s a WG Strike going on in the states.. People watch the shows on the internet rather than watching it on television or on cinema. Shows like Grey’s Anatomy, One Tree Hill and such doesn’t earn even a cent on the revenues earned by websites like youtube.com and such.. EXAMPLE: People can watch New Episodes of Grey’s Anatomy on abc.com.. abc.com earn internet revenues from the show in their website while Grey’s Anatomy[cast, writers, cameraman, and such] didn’t.
SO THERE!
^ oops.. typo!
“internet is one of the reasons” hmm.. seems there are less people commenting when its not game related..
well what joel said is correct. if you will see those shows who don’t need writers that much, most of them being reality shows, aren’t that much affected by the writers’ strike, including my favorite, The Amazing Race (Jerry Bruckheimer ba naman). even game shows are surviving. dito sa Chicago still there are a lot of tv series going on in different channels but if you’re not updated, you won’t probably know that what you’re watching is actually a rerun! ^^
yea, i think so too. less people comments on stuff like this. anyway, 28.4% is a big number.
Take my word for it ( or not it’s your money anyway ). Don’t buy an XBOX 360. There are a lot of design flaws
within that console and you won’t believe how many gamers are really upset about it.
Mr. Wauks……….we’re still experiencing chat lagging and guild problems within Valkyrie server. A little update please and thanks. Oh and BOT problems, don’t forget that one either.
@joel’s comment
that’s a common theory and it only shows the natural effect of a writers strike but i don’t think that is the factor why the movie industry dropped although it shows a bit of the same idea.. writers strike only started early November of 2007 and according to their stats, from November to this date it already cost them 1B dollars because of the cutting-off of the current seasons of popular tv shows and discontinuing it and of course for the time that’s wasted. Well 1B is nothing compared to the money that’s slipping away from the movie and the music industry because of piracy. Yes, Piracy is the cause. Of course Internet Downloads and streaming are also some causes. Same goes for the gaming industry Private Servers/Replications of different games gives downfalls for the gaming industry growth but since there are a lot of Games to choose from and most of them don’t have private servers the industry is still able to make up for them..
Sir Wauks di ko pa din natatanggap ung jacket.
