  • Gaming: Kill or be Killed?

    Each time we roll-out a new patch or major program, we do a national roll-out. Our sales force scours the entire country, visiting all the internet cafes in our database and they give the internet cafe owners/bantay a free CD, posters, and other merchandising materials. I was planning the next roll-out for the Ragnarok World Championships with our Sales Director, Apol Dionglay. In the field, it’s literally like a battlefield with the various sales force of the online gaming companies fighting for poster and computer space. It’s just like the FMCG industry wherein companies vie for rack and window space for their merchandise. What he told me really reminded me of election campaigning because of the tactics of certain competitors.

    It’s like the saying… “Kill or be Killed”. Some people are now tearing down posters from internet cafes and replacing them with their respective products. The same goes for the actual games in the computers. If the bantay or cafe owner lets the sales force of a certain company does the installation of their game, they delete the games of their competitors. I’ve always believed that in order to be successful in any industry, you have to take into consideration the weakness of your competitors but not to the extent of stooping down to that level. I’d rather build on my strengths and position the product in a way that will transcend the category all-together.

    Anyway, I just wanted to share this with everyone since it’s interesting.

    By the way, I’ll be checking my previous posts later tonight and I’ll try to answer all the comments that you guys have left. I’m sorry for not being able to reply lately – it’s been really hellish here at the office. We’re really focused on the Server Merge and the Ragnarok World Championships. I’m also starting to work on Ragnarok Online 2 and even the latest patch for Ragnarok Online – 11.1: Rachel.

      Very true Sir Wauks, Its a jungle out there :heh: dito sa netcafe na pinagta-tambayan ko, almost 7O% of the customers are playing other MMORPG, unti lang kaming naglalarong pRO dito. And to make matters worse, yung “bantay” naglalaro din ng ibang MMORPG kaya yung mga poster dito puro *** Online :^^: Ayaw nila i-endorse ang pRO kasi unti nalang daw naglalaro, AMF!! I hope the Sales and Promotion Dept. of LU! is planning to have a brilliant brainstorming sessions to rise above the competition, lalo na ngayon at maraming patch/events/upates and pRO :@@: Cool posters and Free CDs wouldn’t hurt especially the RWC posters…that’d be great!! :no1: More power and goodluck sa mga future projects… :gawi:

      magkatulad ba ng hinihingi na requirements ang RF online and RO2?
      kc meron ako dito sa shop na RF online… pero naka setup ung rf online sa pinakamababa na specs… kasi excited din dito malaro ung RO2 dami na naeexcite sa shop namin… hehehe excited din ako… salamat sa pagsagot pow…

      pero dito sa shop namin sa Camella meron Ragnarok Online ung nasa opening door namin hehehe 4 almost kami dito laro ng RO aheheheh sa shop dito kasu ako ung bantay RO pa rin ahihihihi… sinasabihan ko n lng na may 3d rin RO ung RO.. aun naeexcite din ung iba… kami rin naeexcite aheheheheh :heh:

      Sir wauks, most internet shops have Ragnarok Online posters but doest have a Ragnarok game installed or is not patched up since heritage episode..

      Internet shops uses Ragnarok posters to attract customers but not for the benefit of both Level up corp and loyal RO players.. it disappoints most players when they see this posters but when they enter the shop, there is no ragnarok installed or it is not patched up.. what will happen is that, they will play another game like ****, ***, etc, etc..

      and its true about some people who installs new games and deletes RO. ive known a shop here in taft malate manila.. i even went to LU office to get hugel CD so we could install back the RO game..

      and another thing, RO private server is rampant to other internet shops.. we(RO players) loses more playmates and LU loses more income.

      and just want to add up about:
      1. Neutralizer update
      2. Removing buffs before entering the pvp rooms

      WTF? There really are game company people who install the game in the PCs? I think that’s a big no no. Bakit, hindi ba alam ng owner/bantay how to do that? Heck, even my 6 year-old cousin could install Windows Vista any given day. Nagtayo pa sila ng shop without competitive staff :sux:

      Anyway, it is true that there are cafés which have RO posters yet the PCs themselves do not have the said game, and even if they did, it’s a private or offline server. Maganda lang kasi siguro (IMO) ang posters ng LU eh; bright colors, high reso, and the funny one-liner slogans :heh: kaya ginagawang attraction ang posters for the gamers. Most cafés also are unsecured, I can say that around 90% of internet shop owners here in our city are unaware of what might happen. In other words, I can hack their computer systems without them knowing it :gg:

      This concludes that gaming companies must also “educate” the forefronts of their business. A lot of players still play in shops and a good cooperation between the company and shop onwers together with the players themselves will foster a more successful online gaming industry in the country.

      Sir Wauks,

      Hingi lang po sana ako ng balita sa NEURALIZER. Sana naman po maibalik na siya in time for the coming RPC and RWC.

      Marami ako kilala hindi inayos ng husto build ng bagong characters nila for the benefit of quick levelling thinking that they could get a skill reset through the neuralizer.

      Gaya po ng stalker ko na level 10 and vulture’s eye at DS. Talagang designed ko po yun na gumamit ng skill reset when it becomes 99.

      Sana po kung hindi maibalik yung neuralizer maski temporary lang pakibalik yung skill reset NPC.

      sir wauks,

      here in mindanao also in visayas kahit sa netopia la ng naglalaru ng RO. For simple reason, hindi kasi updated ang patch ng RO So once the player will try to open RO almost 1 hr na hindi pa rin tapos ung RO patch so the player will cancel na lang then play other online games.

      last December I have an opportunity to have my vacation in Cagayan de Oro and Bacolod. I tried to play RO in netopia to my disappoinment tagal mag patch kaya hindi na lang me naglaru. Herotage patch pa yata yung sa kanila.

      Actually some internet cafe even netopia i think don’t sale RO cards anymore. Sabi nila la na daw buyer kaya stop selling sila.

      hope the LU can address this problem.

      So true. A lot of internet cafes here in Cebu have Ragnarok posters all over there walls but doesn’t have RO installed on their PCs. :swt:

      Cguro isa na din reason y nagquit yung iba dahil sa mga nahahack saa yung iba mejo nagsawa n sa mga errors ng RO saka ng extended maintenance.

      sir wauks its true alam mo po ba hirap maghanap ng cd ng pro kaya kung saan saan ako naghahanap pag d me nakahanap d pa me makalaro kc mga players puro poster ng pro pero pag pasok mo ung patch nsa heritage pa pagkatpos sbihin nla laru nlng ng iba nakaka dissappoint eh sna meron kyu gwin kht konting promotions sa pro in different computer shops at may mag sell din ng installer sa internet cafe shops pra d na mahirapan mga iba maglaro sir pati mga load nag cocommute pa me and im spending 300pesos in bus trycicle and jeep just to buy a load because even in netopia they are not selling loads anymore sbi nla konti nlng sell nla at minsan ubos na………….

      Sir Wauks, somehow related. I’m no longer playing these days coz of software problems sa RO client. nagka-crash ung game pag madami na characters on screen (monsters and players, and npcs). Is this bug already addressed before? btw, is LU! stil giving away free CDs of Hugel (and possibly, Rachel)?

      I’m merely maintaining my accounts these days through the MyLU!website /thx

      I talked to my other friends who are players of ragnarok before, they told me that they quit playing ragnarok beacuse of the game time load and yet they can play online without buying game time load. Well, its true there are new MMORPG which your can play without buying load. I think wauks this is one of the reason why players quiting and moving to other free MMORPG. :sob2:

      siguro nagmumukha akong engot. pero ako mismo ayoko maglaro sa cafe~ ng pRO. hindi pa kase nac-CLEAR ang issue tungkol sa keylogging. kahit may gameguard na…..

      para kasing hindi ko nakikita ang safety ng account ko. lalo na may mga issue tungkol sa mga taong naha-HACK

      tingin ko eh nasa may-ari na rin ng cafe ang INITIATIVE para linisin ang pc niya. para maayos itong malaruan ng mga players. kung nangangain ng account ang PC. sasamaang reputasyon ng shop.

      so. anong madalas mong nakikita sa cafe ngayon? DOT-A. at isama mo na rin ang iba pang RPG games.

      ANG GUSTO ko sana sa isang GAME sa computer. AY yung tipong lalaruin mo kahit saan. > halimbawa. kami ay nagpunta sa megamall. imbis na mag-Arcade, sana masabi ko na “nay, ragnarok lang ako saglit” diba. parang ang “safe” ng dating. tsaka hindi lang sa megamall, kahit sa shangrila pa yan, sa starmall, ganun.

      sana nagkaroon ng sense ung sinabi ko. hahaha ako mismo naguluhan sa sarili ko

      ang sinasabi ko lang.. nasa “DATING”, “CHARISMA”, or even better nasa “IMAGE” ng game yan. kung ang game ay may “FRIENDLY” image. gamer-friendly in a sense that it CATERS to their NEEDS and ISSUES. malalaro nila yan ^_^

      actually isa ngang dahilan kung bakit ang daming nagquit ay dahil sa hack hack na yan … which. LU hasn’t really CLARIFIED until now. may mga nacharacter delete ba? na hack? keylog? walang bulletin T_T

      It’s May 12, 2007, 2 months after Hugel launch and I still can’t find a Hugel CD. Of course, I gave up searching 1 week after Hugel launch but I visited a Mini-Stop in Greenhills last week and they don’t have the CD.

      I complained to LU! CS a long time ago about the CD distrbution problem but all I got was “the CDs are still in transit” reply.

      This is definitely something for Sales to look into.

      Well if you have noticed why most Visayans Dont play RO anymore is because of Lack of Support Since Most internet cafe’s dont even have the game Ragnarok Due to the Fact that only Thoose BIG Internet Cafe’s Have them because they are popular heck my friends shop even lets Voyager Burn a CD for his shop to let the players play I mean like WTF Bring some Merchandise and Stuff In Cebu naman Not just CEBU BUT THE AREAS WHERE RO DOSNT EVEN KNOW OF! Like Bohol most shops in Bohol dosnt even have the game or know of it all they know about is Private Servers

      and Make sure the Shops in the Talamban Area have them I had to purchase and Over Charged CD for 300php just to let my Cousins Shop have RO….

      Unlike games from Mo**is the whole area is really covered..

      Sa tingin ko na pRO weakened because of it’s f2p competitors… Inaya ko dati mga kaklase ko na mglaro ng pRO kesa ***… Ayaw nila, why? because it’s p2p… Pero sa akin ok lang naman p2p kasi sulit…

      Isa pang sumisira sa pRO…. Private servers… ang lalakas magyabang ng mga naglalaro nun di nila alam illegal yun… Sana sugpuin nyo ang mga private servers mga parasites yun pinapatay nila ang ginagaya nila…

      Hello po my 1st post here… sana po sir pati sa houses meon din nagdala ng ganun especially the patch updates… lalo na po ako gusto ko ng posters becuase we are planning to set up a shop :heh:
