Gadgets: NOKIA N81 8GB, New Phone for Gaming!

Abe Olandres is one of the people who inspired me to start blogging. I’m an avid reader of his blog and I was pleasantly surprised to read about the new phones that NOKIA unveiled in their event “NOKIA: Go Play!” in Singapore. They showcased 4 new phones and one of them was touted to be a gamer’s mobile phone! This is probably their follow-up to NOKIA’s N-Gage which actually sold a lot of units way back in 2004. The question here is would gamers actually go for phones like these? Here’s a picture and stats of the new gaming phone - the NOKIA N81.

The new NOKIA N95 8GB after the jump.

Now this phone is just too pretty and sezy. The black sleek design reminds me of the new motorolla phones. I remember going all geeky when the first news of the N95 was released. It’s a good thing I didn’t bother buying one back then since NOKIA is releasing an improved model yet again.

Makes you think if it’s actually worth buying a phone these days. They keep upgrading which means that the phones you buy keep on getting devalued. I remember buying my first phone, a NOKIA 5110, for more than 10,000 pesos. Now I’d be lucky to sell one for a thousand bucks, hehe. Feel free to check out the other phones that were released in Abe’s blog. More updates within the day.

  1. I guess it will meet the same fate as the N-Gage due to lack of game support. Though in gaming aspect, this would be a great device to emulate gameboy and other consoles since it has enough power and capacity. If you really want a mobile phone and gaming device, better wait for the PSP Phone instead.

  2. @Strike: I totally agree with you that it really boils down to content. If there is no sufficient support then this will die out as another PSP/DS wannabe. heh

  3. The games are no different from the Java games that the carriers already offer: side scrollers, strategy (read: sudoku and chess), car racing, shmups. That’s it.

  4. @Boky: If that’s the case then I don’t think this phone has a chance of selling well here in the Philippines. @_@ I’d rather wait for the iPHONE. heh

  5. N95:I already have the old one, and yet there they go again releasing better & improved models of the previous generation handsets. Well, what can you expect from Nokia? /pif
How much do you think I could sell my old one?
I’m not gonna buy a Nokia anymore, I’d better stick to a SE or a Motorola instead. O.O

  6. The recent addition to the N95 is the 8GB internal memory and some games. If that’s the case, then might as well buy a 4GB micro SD card and download Java games. You would save a lot instead of buying the new N95, it would be relatively cheaper.

  7. Hopefully, the batteries given to these units won’t be fatal.

  8. Have you guys heard of the I-Phone by Apple? I think there just similar.
