Gadgets: NOKIA Mobile Gaming Platform
After unveiling their new mobile phone handsets in Singapore, NOKIA announced that they’re transforming their mobile phone gaming service into an entirely new gaming platform. I totally agree with the readers of this blog when they pointed out that the life blood of a gaming platform is the content - the games. The NOKIA N-Gage had a difficult time breaking into the gamer lifestyle because they never really offered good titles for it. It looks like that NOKIA has finally learned though and they’ve decided to partner up with some of the best global game developers.
Nokia rebuilt its gaming service from being a single device to a gaming platform. It has partnered with CapCom, Digital Chocolate, EA Mobile, IndiaGames, I-Play, GameLoft, THQ Wireless and Vivendi Games Mobile to provide hundreds of downloadable games to any of the following N-Series phones — Nokia N73, N81, N93, and N95.
Popular games would include The Sims Pets, Tiger Woods PGA Tour, EA Sports FIFA 08, World Rally Championship and Crash Bandicoot. Dowloadable directly form the web or Over-the-Air, you can play the trial versions before buying them. Games will cost somewhere between €4 to €10

More thoughts after the jump.
Capcom? Does that mean that there will be a Street Fighter game that we can play on our mobile phones? Will we see see Ryu kick Guile’s ass on our NOKIA N81? The possibilities for development are endless, especially with game developers focusing on building up their mobile portfolio. Even the developer of Ragnarok Online, Gravity Inc., is investing their money in mobile game applications.

If they’re going to develop 3D mobile games like Gravity’s Ragnarok 2 - Rise of the Dimago, then the mobile gaming industry will have a chance of finally breaking into the existing gamer market. Normal downloadable flash/java games won’t just cut it anymore and if NOKIA is really serious about this, they’d better get relevant and good content out soon. Good luck to NOKIA and I hope they do well in their latest campaign.
I’d like to thank Abe Olandres for the coverage of the “NOKIA: Go Play!” event in Singapore. You can visit his blog for more details on the other projects that NOKIA announced in their various press meetings and conferences.
