Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood Episode 7 focuses once again on character development and over-all plot progression. There’s not much action except for the initial scene because majority of the episode really zeroed in on the Philosopher’s Stone. If you guys can recall, Edward was given a tip by Doctor Marcoh in Episode 6 that he left research information about the stone in the Central Library. The episode dwells on that but it’s a good set-up for an action packed Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood Episode 8. Review after the break.

Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood Episode 7 Review
The episode starts with Gluttony attacking Scar in the sewers of Central City. Scar is able to fend off Gluttony’s offensive and he’s even able to take off it’s arm. However, things turn for a worse when Lust enters the melee. There’s no exact resolution to the battle. In the later part of the anime though we’ll see Roy Mustang’s team uncover Scar’s bloodied jacket. In the crowd, Gluttony also talks to Lust, complaining that he wasn’t able to eat him.

Edward and Al finally reach the library but their shocked to find out that it was burned down. They’re brought to a former librarian named Sheska who might be able to help. Fortunately for the Elric brothers, Sheska has photographic memory and she can actually remember everything she read and she was able to read almost all of Doctor Marcoh’s work. She begins to transcribe everything and finally completes her work after 5 days. The Elric brothers take the research back to the library so they can complete their studies.

After what seems like an eternity, they finally break the code in the research and find out the truth about the Philosopher’s Stone. To their dismay, the two young brothers find out that the key ingredient of the stone is the lives of human beings. They begin to give up and go “emo” but Ed eventually breaks out of it when he recalls Doctor Marcoh telling him that “they might be able to find the real truth beyond the truth”. Which he interprets as there has to be something more and maybe he can make a Philosopher’s Stone without the human sacrifice.

With the help of Armstrong and Roy Mustang’s men, the Elric brothers find out the location of a laboratory (number 5) which they think is where the military conducted research on the Philosopher’s Stone. They infiltrate the facility. The episode ends with an armored thing with a giant knife jumping from the roof, preparing to cleave Al in two.

I can’t wait to watch Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood Episode 8! Hopefully we’ll see some action since the past two episodes have been tame in terms of fight scenes. If this will follow the manga though, we’ll definitely see the Elric brothers take on the abominations inside Laboratory 5.
