Full Metal Alchemist (FMA) Brotherhood Episode 10 was released earlier this week. I wasn’t able to write about it since I just moved and I don’t have internet connection yet. I’ve only been able to catch up on my anime this weekend (currently at a friend’s house). Anyway, hopefully next week my connection will be up and running already. FMA Brotherhood 10 is an emotional roller coaster that will really tug at your heart. The writer really made it impossible for viewers not to have a connection with the central characters of this episode. Details after the break.
FMA Brotherhood Episode 10 Review
The episode starts out a bit slow, mostly revolving around the next steps of the Elric brothers. Ed and Al decide to seek out their master because they believe that she can make the both of them stronger. They also need to discuss with her possible next steps for the Philosopher’s Stone. Winry manages to convince them to bring her along since she wants to come along to visit one of the cities that is considered the “mecca” of automail. Without too much fanfare, the three depart without escorts.
The episode then shifts the focus to Hughes and his family. After some touching moments with Gracia and her daughter, Hughes digs deeper into the mystery of the Philosopher’s Stone and what happened in Laboratory 5. He eventually discovers that the military was behind everything and that the deaths that happened in Ishbal and the current wars are all related. Before he shares this information with Mustang, he’s cornered by Lust.
He manages to escape death, though he’s seriously wounded with one of Lust’s attacks. Hughes escapes the building and tries to call Mustang on a public phone. Before he’s able to speak with him though he’s found by Wrath.
Hughes tries to retaliate but he stops as Wrath morphs into the appearance of his wife. This gives Wrath the window of opportunity to gun down Hughes, killing him.
The saddest part of this episode is Hughes’ funeral. Hearing Elicia cry out asking why her dad is being buried.
Full Metal Alchemist (FMA) Brotherhood 11 appears to focus on Ed, Al, and Winry when they arrive at the Automail mecca city. It should be out by Monday. Hopefully I’ll be able to watch it and post a review early next week.

RIP Hughes…again…

A little correction Sir Wauks, the homunculus that killed Hughes was Envy, not Wrath. Wrath hasn’t been introduced in this series yet.
I wasn’t into the episode at all. It felt too long and dragging. I don’t know if that was the way the story was told in the manga but it just didn’t work well in anime. The moments for great drama like Hughes death and Mustang’s promise of revenge was uninspired, the episode was full of clichés, and Hughes as a character wasn’t developed enough in this version for me to care that he’s going to die. IMHO this is the first weak episode of the series.

I just want to compare FMA 1 and the new remake FMA brotherhood:
Color:
FMA brotherhood just like what others said is more darker and has more 3D look but after I watched the two different versions, the 1st one is more appealing to me.
Story: (based on the 11 episodes I watched in brotherhood)
I’m very amazed that FMA brotherhood did a total remake of the series and didn’t recycle any scenes from the first one. However, the story is more like a shortcut of the first one and there are some alterations. (I know that the first one is way off the story in the manga but I still love the story)
1. In FMA, Edward accidentally discovered that he can do alchemy without the transmutation circle while in the brotherhood he already knew that he can do alchemy without the circle right after transmuting their mother and saw the gate with many eyes.
2. In brotherhood, they omitted the episode of “barry the chopper” and barry only appeared when he was already in an armored suit guarding the 5th laboratory.
3. Brotherhood and FMA have different episode titles and the phasing of the story in brotherhood is quite fast (shortcut). However I like the new opening song of brotherhood than in FMA
4. Winry delivered a baby! u read it right! In the 11th episode of brotherhood. Winry delivered a baby! But there are alterations in the episodes again. Panyita? in the River valley has no automail arm in the brotherhood unlike in FMA.
5. Brotherhood is more lighter than FMA. They did MORE caricatures just to make every scenes funny or lighter. FMA is too emotional and brutal in some of its scenes.
a) Feelings – I wonder why i felt okay while watching brotherhood unlike when I watched the FMA(version1) that I almost shed 1 litre of tears I forgot the title but I watched the episode about Mr. Tucker who made his wife and daughter into chimera. I remembered two years ago that I cried after I watched it but after I watched the brotherhood it is like an ordinary episode. So I decided to watch the FMA (version1 )episode: the night when the chimera cried. Right after watching the episode, I felt an excruciating pain in my chest. The episode in the FMA is really to heavy and emotional.
Observations: In Brotherhood , their attempt to make each episode lighter almost kill the message of each episodes. The phasing is too fast that other characters in the story was not well developed like Nina, so removing them from the story line seems not so much a big deal. (I know that this is a remake but I think the first one is better)
b. Alterations – aside from the alterations I mentioned earlier is the sequence. Ed and Al met mr tucker to review for the state alchemy qualifications in FMA but in brotherhood they met mr tucker when Edward is already a state alchemist. The rivalry between Colonel Mustang and the Steel Alchemist for promotion was omitted also in the brotherhood.
c. Understanding – Brotherhood can be easily understand because every episodes are well explained and give a lot of hints unlike in FMA (version 1) that you must watched all the episodes to fully understand the story. Brotherhood introduces also the different characters’ names and pictures every cut of the episode/break, so that viewers can easily recall the name of the characters.
OVERALL: Both versions are worth to watch. If you want a detailed/emotional version watch the first version while if you want to watch the version similar to the manga which is more lighter/ and probably shorter (because of shortcuts) watch FMA brotherhood.
I watch it because I want to know the real story in the manga and I want to learn the twist in the story but for me it’s better if they did the sequel instead of remake. ^________^
