Wow, our tech-addicted brethren just can’t seem to get out of the headlines lately. We’ve talked about the Internet addicts, Blackberry addicts, email addicts, and now the focus is back on game addicts after a 26-year old gamer died following a online gaming marathon.

One can’t help but say… WTF!? Seriously though, let’s discuss this. I know a lot of people who have given up school and even their love life just to be good at a certain game. I’ve been through this when I was so addicted to Ragnarok back then. I can’t remember how many times I’ve fought with Mich, or how many times my grades slipped because of desparately trying to reach level 99 during late nights. But wait… there’s more!

Weird as it may sound, my life took a better turn when I got hack deleted. I’m speaking from the heart here so please don’t misunderstand anything I say in this post as being an official stand of Level-up Games (Disclaimer! XD). It’s not because I couldn’t play… it’s because I decided to focus on my career for a bit before I loose myself to Midgard completely.

China and Europe already treat young game addicts with medication, counseling, acupuncture, and even shock therapy, while Korea may be looking at a safer approach. Xtive, a Korean start-up, claims to have developed inaudible sounds that help game addicts quit their gaming sessions on their own.

The quote above is also from the same article. Isn’t it insane that other countries are using medication and my god, SHOCK THERAPY to cure gaming addiction? How does that go? Each time you touch a keyboard or mouse, a surgically implanted microchip sends out shock waves to your entire body? Come on, that’s just plain B.S. right there! If ever anything deserved a WTF, this one is king.

Drawing from personal experience and from talking with former game addicts like myself, the best cure for something like this is SUCCESS. Yeah, you read that right. SUCCESS. Either you succeed in a business venture, career, school, love life, or something else. The important thing is you balance your time so that you will be able to succeed at another field. Let me put it in gamer speak.

You know how good it feels with you pawn someone in-game? You know how GOOD IT FEELS when you kill someone in PVP, and scream “ASA KA BOY!”? You know how dominating it feels when you oblieterate someone in Quake with a missile launcher?

Take that feeling, and multiply it by a hundred. That’s what you feel when you are standing on your own two feet, earning money monthly from work and business.

I am a stern advocate of responsible gaming, and I’ll try to post more articles on time management if needed (LOL) just so we can wipe the negative image being set by some of our extremist gamer brothers and sisters.

Gamers should know when to stop themselves. I have experienced flunking the board exams because of reasons which partially is online gaming. Now I got my priorities straight and will be undergoing formal review starting June and a hiatus from online gaming maybe earlier than June.

Don’t let the game control you, you must learn to control the game. :3

I have been around with many games these past years. Close beta and Open beta there but it seems that every time I try to quit on a game, a new game sprouts out and as usual I wanted to try it out and hope that it will be my stable game. No luck.

I hope it will be PW or RO2 this time. XD
