Dragon Age: Origins Mage Spell Combos make combat very interesting and innovative. Unlike your usual RPGs, spells interact with one another. If you combine several spells you can come up with more powerful and devastating effects that can really shift the battle in your favor. What’s good about this also is that they have single target and AOE spell combos which makes playing a Mage so much fun.

This list is not exhaustive or 100%. If I missed anything, please feel free to add:

Grease Fire: Grease plus any fire damage spell. Sets the oil on fire causing possible knockdown and damage over time (DOT) because of the fire. One of my favorite spell combos ever. Works even better if you root them on the spot (sleep/crushing field/etc.)

Shatter: This is probably one of the most used combos. Just freeze the enemy with Cone of Cold/Petrify then follow through with Stone Fist or Crushing Prison. There’s a chance that they can automatically die. Doesn’t work on bosses but there’s a chance that it can work on monsters with yellow names.

Paralysis Explosion: This will definitely help you out if you’re being swarmed. Just cast Glyph of Paralysis then overlap it with a Glyph of Repulsion. AOE paralysis goodness. I can’t count how many times this has saved my butt from a potential wipe.

Nightmare: This is the combo that I have Morrigan cast all the time. Just put someone to sleep with the uh… sleep spell then hit him with Horror. Deals really good damage.

Improved Drain: Want to feel like a kick ass vampire? Hit your opponent with Vulnerability Hex then follow-up with either Mana or Life Drain. This greatly increases the amount of HP/Mana drained.

Advanced Re-animation: One of the things I love about mages is how versatile they can be. You can actually feel like a Necromancer in the game. If you want stronger skeletons just use Spell Might and Animate Dead.

Shockwave: This will cost a lot of mana but it’s worth it. Cast Force Field on one opponent and follow it up with Crushing Prison. This will cause an AOE knockback effect and pretty decent damage.

Storm of the Century: I haven’t confirmed this but apparently if you cast Blizzard, Inferno, and Tempest one after the other it will become a massive electrical storm that will destroy everything. Lol

Entropic Death: Death Hex then cast Death Cloud. This will cause insane amounts of SPIRIT damage to the hexed target.

And last but not the least, here’s a way of “cheating”. Have your Tank draw all the mobs and build threat. Then slap him with a Forcefield, making him invincible. He will take no damage from the mobs. Follow that up with Inferno or an AOE spell and you’re good to go. :)

That’s it for now. If I missed anything, please do leave a comment so I can update the list.
