Blog Share: Career Motivation - Sonnie’s Porch

Blogging in the Philippines has started to grow in the past few years. I can’t really say that it has matured already but it’s definitely starting to make it’s presence felt. Some blogs out there are actually very helpful, and they can even help you in your respective careers, love life, or hell, even straighten out a person’s fashion sense. Since I’m an avid reader of various blogs, I’ve decided to share with everyone what blogs that I read and why I read them. The segment will be called… Blog Share (LOL). The first one I’m going to show you guys is a blog that focuses mainly on career improvement. This is more for the young professionals out there who are struggling with corporate life. It’s really a rat race out there, with some people climbing up by pushing other people down. The blog that I’m about to review is authored by an HR (Human Resources) Manager who specializes in motivation and training. He’s actually one of the HR Managers for SM Supermalls which is owned by Henry Sy. I’m actually subscribed to his blog, and I read his updates whenever he posts because I really find them helpful in everyday corporate life. Read the review and the other details of his blog after the jump.

SONNIE’S PORCH
Adding Value One Post at a Time

Sonnie Santos is the author of Sonnie’s Porch, a blog which focuses more on career motivation. He’s credible because of his vast experience and background from HR and he really makes a lot of sense when he posts. There’s also a touch of Christianity in his posts because he’s also active in his chruch. Other than original content, he also brings in valuable information from other sources that you would rarely read yourself.

One of my favorite articles in his blog is his take on office politics. If you guys work in consumer product companies (FMCG) and even in call centers, you’ll probably notice the politics going on, especially if you’re part of the Marketing and Sales Department. Here’s a quote from the article:

Because of these, when one is in traversing the corporate jungle, a professional may not be aware that he’s slowly becoming what he hate– “corporate predators”.

And because “corporate predators” have succeded in destroying careers or have succeeded in making life difficult for another corporate specie, the notion that there may not be better alternative than becoming one was reinforced.

Is there a better way to handle office politics?

Anyway, if you guys are young professionals and you want to read a blog that focuses on career motivation, then I strongly suggest you read Sonnie’s Porch. Reading blogs is a great way to relax and learn new stuff. I’ll be posting more of these in the days to come.
