One of my favorite anime titles finally released another episode - Bleach 138 is now out! For those who don’t know about Bleach, it’s a fantasy japanese animation series that focuses on the Shinigami (Death Gods). In a nutshell, the Shinigami are like angels that protect the balance of souls in the world. Souls that are corrupted become Hollows - merciless and ruthless monsters that attack wayward souls. The Shinigami are there to hunt down these Hollows and to send earthbound souls to Soul Society (Heaven).

For the past few episodes, we’ve been seeing Ichigo and the others train for a battle which they foresee will happen in the Winter. Ichigo is being trained by the Vaizards, a group of former Shinigami that have learned to control and draw strength for their inner hollows. Chad, on the other hand, is training with Renji. Episode 138 kicks off from that point. Spoilers after the jump.

In Hueco Mundo, Aizen summons the Espada and asks Ulquiorra to lead a mission into Earth. The details of the mission are not revealed yet but based from the previoous episodes, we can assume that it has something to do with Innoue. While Ichigo, Chad, and Innoue are training, 3 Espada and 1 former Espada member appear in the world and they’re confronted by Toushiro and his Shinigami posse. It’s also revealed at this point that Grimjaw is no longer part of the Espada which is expected because his arm got cut off, hehe. Grimjaw bolts from the Arancar group and heads out ot hunt Ichigo. The rest of the Espada, led by Yammy, engage the Shinigami squad.

Alarmed by the sudden appearance of the Espada, Soul Society starts to gather forces to send to Earth to back up Toushiro. At this point, you’ll really feel that the Espada are strong since it’s rare that we see the people at Soul Society get scared like there was no tomorrow. Rukia, who was training with Innoue, leaves her and heads off to the world to help take on the Espada. In t he other side of the world, Ichigo breaks out of his training camp despite the objections of several Vaizards. Shinji, one of the lead Vaizards, lets Ichigo go for an unknown reason. Ichigo dashes off to help with the other Shinigami but he’s intercepted by Grimjaw who has been hell bent on revenge. The two face off and the episode ends with Ichigo calling forth his Bankai and inner hollow.

Ulquiorra, leader of the mission, is nowhere to be seen.

Episode 138 was a great set-up for the next episode. I honestly can’t wait to see the next part seeing as we finally get to see how strong the Espada really are. Hopefully they all live up to the hype and we don’t get disappointed with too many talking scenes in Episode 139. All I really want to see is some good old fashioned Bleach action!
