Hackenslash Article on Level up and e-Games

I was surfing the net on some gaming news that I could share with you guys here when an officemate sent me a link via YM. It was an article in Hackenslash, the official gaming blog of the Inquirer and it talked about Level up and e-Games. The article basically discusses an adboard ruling which was handed down against IP e-Games’ claim that they were number 1 in a broadsheet ad that they ran in the Inquirer and Philippine Daily Star.

LEVEL UP! Philippines said IP e-Games was ordered recently by the Advertising Content Regulation Committee (ACRC) to stop using a print ad.

Level Up! Philippines said the ACRC has asked IP e-Games to discontinue the print ad, “E-GAMES Growing, Evolving, Expanding, Not Stopping.”

IP e-Games officials were unavailable for comment as of this writing.

The decision of the ACRC came after Level Up! contested its rival’s claim through a complaint filed with the AdBoard.

A post-screening session was held on December 7 questioning IP e-Games’ print ad, Level Up! said in a statement.

“The Adboard screening panel ruled that the ad of e-Games was in direct violation of Section 1.1 (Presentation) and Section 6.1/a, 6.2/a and 6.2/b (No. 1 Claim or Leadership Claim), Article IV of the Code of Ethics of Advertising,” Level Up! said.

Reacting to the Level Up! claim, IPVG Corp. chief executive officer Enrique Gonzalez said they will comply with the rules of the AdBoard.

IPVG Corp. is the parent company of online gaming subsidiary IP e-Games.

Gonzales stressed, however, that IP e-Games’ print advertisement is based on a third-party survey, which showed that RAN Online, one of its online games, was the number one massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) in terms of sales and concurrent users.

“IP E-Games fully recognizes the rules and regulations of the AdBoard. However, we would like to emphasize that our ‘No. 1? position is based on a third-party survey. We are willing to back up our claim that RAN Online is the No. 1 MMORPG in terms of sales and concurrent users,” Gonzalez said.

He said the company will openly challenge Level Up! to also “open themselves to a third-party audit.”

Parang Kapuso versus Kapamilya. heh

This is out of my league anyway so all we can do is watch. If it were just me, I’d welcome the challenge but that’s something that ePLDT and the LU Top Management will have to decide on.

  6. Hmm… Siguro kung maayos problema ng ragnarok mananalo ragnarok vs ran. Pero kung hahayaan lng ng LU ang mga prob. (Dupe, Bot, Disconnection, Siege Problem) 50-50 ang ragnarok or baka matalo pa vs ran… Sa mga ka barkada ko na nag ran online wala pa ko naririnig sa kanila na prob. or tulad sa ragnarok na issue….

    Goodluk na lng sa ragnarok at sana mapaniwala nyo ang mga players na ragnarok ang no.1.

    Kaya nman nag no.1 ang ragnarok sa… ano bang competition yun? … dahil kung mananalo kyo may compensation ang mga players ng ragnarok… Ganun ba yun ^^ Parang nanggulang ata kyo kc sinuhulan nyo mga players para manalo na ongoing plang ang voting may sinuhol na agad kyo.

    Sana mabasa ni wauks to hndi dahil sinisiraan ko ang PRO kung hndi ma solve ang mga problema.

  7. Mananalo ang RAN online sa pagiging No.1 MMORPG sa Pilipinas kung di maaayos ang sira ng mga server sa RO especially sa VALKYRIE AT VALHALLA.


  8. haha ako 5yrs na din ako sa pRO. pero sa nagyun lang ako nakaranas ng sobrang problem sa mga servers (Valkyrie, Valhalla, Baldur, pati mga dupes). Sana bumalik yung dating pRO. Chaos dati nun nasa 18K ang naglalaro,kala q magka-crash na eh ehhehe. ngayun swerte nlng pag umabot ng 3K ang tao (mege pa ang loki & chaos nun ah).. tsk tsk /sob

    I agree w/ you… pRO was fun when there were a lot of players playing in the commercial servers.. kanina lang… i went to byalan to gather some squid of ink… i was shocked when I saw that most of the maps in byalan are almost empty.. there were a lot of monsters though.. heh [tyr server] dati sawsawan dahil hindi enough yung monsters… ngayon sobra sobra omg

    I hope you don/t mind me straying from the Topic.

    I have to report about the HO map in geffen(Valkyrie). Once I took my char through the portal. Everything froze (hanggang “please wait” na lang sya), I tried reconnecting but it was of no use. My other characters can login fine.

    Is there something wrong with that area again? Kindly send Levelup IT a nudge for me…

    Oh well, they could have just disabled the portals first (to prevent entry other than being warped there by evil priest/aco players) before doing so. /pif
    Prontera is filled with people complaining and requesting for recall/relocation.

    dito pa lang matatalo na argument ng e-Games. ran online… as number one MMORPG??? HELLO?? WHAT ABOUT DOTA??? sinasabi ba nila mas marami players nila sa ran kesa sa mga naglalaro ng DOTA? i don’t think so.

    in terms of sales siguro oo. pero maliit na factor lang un kasi dota is TOTALLY FREE (as in F2P na nga pero NO NEED for an online market na parang hypermart of some sort to get in-game items). again MALIIT NA FACTOR LANG YAN!!

    BUT… and that is the big BUT… the concurrent users?? hah! tignan na lang naten… /gg

    i don’t know if you’ll consider dota as an online game.

    kung “ONLINE” well there’s the ‘possibility’ of ran having a larger share of the gamers.

    pero kung isasama mo other games, kahit ung lan-based lang…

    after all, kahit sabihin nating lan-based most of the time ang dota dito sa pilipinas, still, there are times na ONLINE ang laro, like sa battle.net

I agree with ” awts “, if Level Up doesn’t come up with a solution to those problems he just mentioned it is only a matter of time before another rival company comes up with a better MMORPG there’s that old saying ” nothing last forever “, sooner or later pRO players will decrease and every gamer would expect a better game that doesn’t have any server issues like we’re experiencing right now.

  36. I guess this battle will continue as time goes by. Why? Cause of the fact that RAN is an F2P game while Ragnarok is P2P. The only problem with this is that, “why are they comparing 2 mmorpg games with 2 different categories?”

    Philippines has lots of players and 80% of these players want to have free access online games while the other 20% want to have a clean, quality game, and at the same time they don’t bother paying as long as they can play without the “basura or squatter” attitude.

    I already experienced playing RAN and RO (both F2P). But what I can say about the two is that RAN lacks story and quest while RO, because of the problems that LUGs are facing, it still needs a lot of debugging to make the game fun and enjoyable to play.


  37. nde ko na binasa mga ibang comments pero para sakin pRO pa rin kesa sa RAN d2 kompleto sa events like sana lng mas pag igihin pa ng mga nagpapatakbo ng pRO trabaho nila… more events… dupes,bots and all imperfections is all part of the game at ang explanation lng nan kung bakit sa ibang games wala nan dahil mas amdaming Ragna adiks kesa RAN ung mga nag popost d2 n galit sa mga imperfections ng RO remember the saying “THE MORE U HATE THE MORE U LOVE” un lng po bow


  38. actually i played Ran Online on my quitting days on RO, tapos nakita ko kung ano difference ng RO sa Ran…

    Masaya ang RO… yes I did enjoy Ran but dahil parang pressured ka magpalvl para maging malakas di na cya enjoyable… BTW i was one of the Top archers sa RAN

    set-aside all problems on pRO

    game-play - definitely enjoyable, better leveling ways, allows solo or with party
    stat-distribution - allows customization, stat is distributed according to your preference
    trading - trading in RO is definitely fun, I know some people who only goes online and enjoy trading.
    characters are more colorful - fun things about being 2d
    monsters are more cute, cool looking, original
    promotes team work, boss hunt, guild seige…

    i could point out more but im currently doing something

Ang tanging masasabi ko lang sa pRo ngayon ay….HAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYY…pagod na pagod na pagod na kami sa kakaasa na maayus pa ang whole ragnarok community..lagi na lang thank you for your understanding and sorry for inconvinience..lagi na lang bang ganito..noong october pa yan ha,,,anung klaseng servers ba yan esp V-servers..hay nako.sana wag mangyari yan sa RO2..nakow..baka masabotahe kayo…tsaka maiba ako ha,,bat ba kinokompare ung ran sa ragnarok,,eh ang pangit pangit ng ran,,puro zombie na lang nakita ko nung naglaro aq,,,mga 10 minutes pa lang,,nag quit na ko..for me ragnarok is the best kahit patuloy pa ang pagdagsa na mga bagong 3d online games like perfect world,,sa totoo lang nakakasawa yang perfect world na yan..alang thrill..nakakasawa talaga,,maxadong malaki ang map,,di nagkakakitaan ang mga players..ano pa ba…ah,,ung flyff-ung flyff magnda sya kaso masyadong pambata ang graphics,,ang sakit sa mata,,masyadong bright tska kulang sa game features…lineage2-maganda kaso kulang sa promotions and advertisements tska mahal maglaro..ang pinkanagustuhan ko d2 ung mage nagsasalita kapag nagmamagic,,”estachiao vaiola”..haha..ganda kaso mejo kulang sa game features,,anu pa ba??ung lang namn mga nagungunang mga RPG and above all namn eh ragnarok,,kahit 2d lang nice story,features,cute chars,nice music an graphics,,kaso un nga lang,,laging disconnected,dupe problems,bot-infested na,ala nang balance,,sana bago nyu labas RO2,,pagandahin at pagbutihin muna ang game na yan kasi papatok yan sa mga online gamers and also for hackers,botters,3rd party users,at kung anu anu pang mga kabalastugan..that’s all folks!

  42. I thought it’s just the TV networks. Now THIS?!

    Whatever, right now the thing I’m seeing in the industry is the HYPERBOLE. Screw it, everyone has a choice of what they want to play. I play the biggest competitor to (and will never be better than) Flyff, PW and RO, but that doesn’t mean I hate these players playing ‘em. I respect their choices.

    All I hate is the excess hype and the ridiculous amounts of money poured by some play just for the sake of reaching the top, all or nothing. And the rabid fans, too.

  44. hakkain07, good point. Haha. RAN is where you find level 60+ people requesting for a duel with level 10+ people. Most played nga, worst community naman. Ha! Beats the purpose of having an online game.

    And yes, another point was raised. Comparing a 5 year game to a younger one? Halos wala ngang bagong matinong content ang RAN eh. Puro new maps, new monsters, new items lang. Konti ng quests. No background story for the updates. Haha. It’s basically a game wherein you bug other people for a party then duel with weaker ones. Meron pang nagme-message sa buong server na, “Alyas08 ang yabang mo, wag ka mag papakita sa akin papatayin ko pamilya mo!”

  45. Game-Wise: Ragnarok or LU!… I play RO tapos lumipat sa RF… Audi lang nilalaro ko sa E-Games… At tingin ko maxado overrated RO…

    Service-Wise: E-Games… Lagi nanjan mga GM’s… Lagi pang may event… Tapos alam mong nababan mga bots na nirereport… Unlike LU… tinotolerate mga bots sa RO…

  48. Problem ko lang sa ragnarok is masakit sa mata dahil sa graphics.Kailan ba ilalabas yang RO 2 sabi ng LU nung bumisita cla d2 sa Marikina ay malapit na daw pero hanggang ngayon wala pa.
