Master Diwa Interviews Waukeen
First, let me greet everyone a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year! Time really does fly by so fast. I’ll be posting more Christmas related stuff in the coming days. I also planned out a new year contest here at Waukster dot Com so better be sure to be on the look out for the mechanics. Anyway, for now I wanted to share with everyone that Master Diwa interviewed me in his blog. If you’re doing nothing else, you might want to check it out. Some excerpts after the jump!
FROM GAMER TO LU EMPLOYEE
MD: Back when you were still a gamer, you were one of the most vocal critics of Level Up. Ironically, you’re now at the other side of the fence. How’s the “view” from there?
Wauks: Pretty much the same. Fireman mode. There are so many problems and this time around I just can’t sit around and complain. You have to keep moving around planning and implementing projects but you also have to address all the technical and game-related issues that pop up.
The problem with Level-up! is that we need more people with passion and heart for the industry. I’m happy to say that starting next year, some gamers will be joining the LU Family and I’d love to see how they adapt to the company culture. If you guys want to apply, please feel free to do so. Madami kami opening next year!
HOW I GOT STARTED
MD: From a normal gamer to a brand manager, that’s quite a big leap, but how did you reach this position? What were the stepping stones?
W: It all started with me being a gamer. I got interviewed on MTV Massive (Pilot Episode) and the president of netGames, Mr. Axel Kornerup, was able to watch me speak. Axel also happens to be an old friend (he was one of the people behind NETOPIA). He gave me a call and I decided to start my career in the industry as the Community Manager for Fly for Fun, Pangya, and Khan Online.
After that, I was promoted to Senior Community Manager and was tasked to focus on Pangya. A few months passed by and I was promoted to Brand Manager for Fly for Fun. When the Level-up! and netGames merger finally happened, they assigned me to Ragnarok Online. When Ragnarok Online 2 was finally on the horizon, they pulled me out of RO and assigned me to Ragnarok Online 2. When Ragnarok Online 2 was delayed, they put me back to Ragnarok Online.
Just last November 16, I got promoted and I’m now one of the Marketing Managers of Level-up! Games. The Brand and Community Managers of Ragnarok Online, Perfect World, Khan, Pangya, and eventually Ragnarok Online 2 report to me.
It’s been one hell of a ride.

I’ll be posting about tomorrow’s update within the day. Hope you guys are having a good holiday break! Cheers!
