2007 - Battle of the MMORPG Giants

Mark my words, 2007 will be the biggest year for the online gaming industry. I’ve been saying this for quite some time now and there have been developments that will support my earlier statements.

IP-egames, one of the most determined challengers of Level-up, is coming out with Granado Espada. It’s one of the most awarded games in Korea and they are currently going through their CBT. Since they inked a deal with IAH, we will probably see more premium titles come from them as well. Of course, the number 1 online gaming company in the Philippines, Level-up, also has their arsenal of new offerings. The first was Silkroad Online, a free-to-play MMORPG that has international servers. The second game is Perfect World, which is now building up buzz in the gaming community - take note that it is free-to-play and it is one of the most awarded games in China! Level-up is also preparing to launch the most anticipated game in the Philippines - Ragnarok Online 2: Gate of the World, sometime this year. Another gaming company, AMDG, is also set on releasing Lineage II in South East Asia.

However, it doesn’t end there. I was surfing the other day and came upon a blog entry by Mike Abundo. Mobius games just acquired the license for EVE Online for South East Asia. EVE Online is a sci-fci game that lets players battle it out using spaceships of different sizes. This is definitely a premium title because it already has reaped various rewards from various countries.

The battle for the best online game in the Philippines is getting more intense with every day that passes. I even have a gut feeling that World of Warcraft may eventually find it’s way here since most of the premium global titles are already set for release.

This is definitely a good thing for the Pinoy Gamer. Competition means more choices - you get to play what you want. By the end of this year, we will have a lot of Sci-Fi games in the market.

  1. Still I’ll stick to PW. (i hope.)Thou it is great to have a healthy competition. It keeps gaming companies making/acquiring great games, which make us, avid gamers, very much delighted.

  2. *make/acquire (stupid kboard XD)

  3. The good thing with this one is that players who like SCI-FI will have something to look forward to :) I’m sure a lot of players out there want their fill of Space ship battles. Btw, RF Episode 2 will have that. *shameless plug for RF team*

    XD

  4. lol no wonder there is an influx of newbies on several academy stations. The 14-day trial is now also advertised here in the region. Please wander on 0.2 systems. More kids to PK!!! >:)

  5. j00 evil evil person j00. XD

  6. shucks… with GE and RO2 looming, I guess a PC update should included in the budget. EVE is also gathering some interest in mature collectors since they said that its “spaceship” games and they can role play as Captain Picard X_X

    Make it so.

  8. Mhu,

I’ll try to get the minimum specs of all the upcoming games - including RO2, Perfect World, and even GE/EVE. If I’m lucky I can have that info posted here on Monday. :)

  9. Well, eventhough its nice to see that we have so much MMORPG coming along. It’s just so hard to suddenly leave in the game where you invested time, effort and money. And you’ll just end up starting all over again.

  10. Agree with you on that Ron. I left RO a long time ago but I kept on coming back. XD

  11. Ron? RonX? hoy ron.. this is kat’s brother.. ho ho ho.. she have not played RF lately and was waiting for PW phil.. we are going to jump to PW.

Wauks any possibility that levelup would bring WoW here? lol

  12. I’ve seen Granado Espada, and I’m not wondering why it won’t be a hit this 2007. Some of us are able to control one or two characters at a time…well then how bout three at a time…

    Just wait and see…

We do it all the time. It’s called a console RPG.

  14. As far as the review goes, 3 man party is a first thing in mmorpg but according to some reviews (that includes morrigan’s) it may turn out as a soloist game and this game also has a legal bot that may be one of the disappointments of some players imo. Im more excited about the PW since ive heard it before it was aquired by LU! that its a game that involves a lot of features an mmorpg should have. you can add EVE online on the the list a lot of gamers are also sci fi fans (one good reason why before accretia has a big population hehehe).
